Look what this WT is doing

Namaskar, 

Recently, one avadhuta attended a ceremony led by non-margiis. We should see how far Dada ji’s participation was in accordance with AM ideology.

(a) Dada ji was extended an invitation and he accepted a leading position in their ritual of idol worship of a mythological deity.

Dada ji blows the conch

(b) That religious group gave Dada ji one of the premier roles in the ceremony: Dada ji blew the conch loudly to mark the start of this idol worship / ritualistic gathering.

(c) At the ceremony, they were all raising the jai slogan for the mythological deity. And Dada j also pumped his fist into the air, alternately blowing the conch in performing this idol worship.

(d) Here below is Dada ji giving his full participation in this idol worship. See Dada ji standing in his full gown at the very start of the procession. It is his blowing of the conch that signals the start of this occasion. 




In the above photo, see Dada ji standing in his full gown at the head of the idol worship procession, blowing the conch to begin this event - all done for the glory of the mythological deity. As you can see in the above photo, they have hoisted the idol of the deity up on their shoulders.

Conclusion: sinful / pápa

(e) Engaging in this idol worship dogma clearly goes against the spirit of what it means to be a Wt, and outrightly transgresses the code of non-compromising strictness and faith regarding the sanctity of Ista. Specifically, Baba warns us not to engage in idol worship as Dada ji is doing in this ritualistic idol worship ceremony as it is completely sinful and adharmic.  

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “In principle, you do not support the philosophy of those who, in the name of worship of God, indulge in idolatry, do not participate in their ceremonies.” (1)

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “Those who in the name of the beginningless, endless, formless Brahma worship idols, are indulging in deliberate slander. You must not give indulgence to this type of Mahapápa (great sin).” (2)

(f) From top to bottom, attending and playing a leading role in this idol worship ceremony is a very bad look for Dada ji, and sets a very poor example for how an avadhuta should conduct himself.

(g) Next Baba points out that those engaging in external rituals in the name of spirituality are masking and concealing the emptiness they have inside. That is why they feel compelled to make this external show. 

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “Dharma (spirituality) is an internal thing. One who is hollow within conceals it in ringing brass bells, beating drums and making noises all around.” (3)

You know that in our Ananda Marga, everything is done in a very systematic way: Sadhana, our way of eating, bathing, and so many other facets of life including our Ananda Marga dances. Those dances like kaośikii should be done in a specific manner according to Guru's guidelines, otherwise all the benefits are lost.

How to derive maximum benefit from kaoshikii 

To best derive the numerous benefits of kaoshikii, it should be done according to the following tenets: 

(A) Frequency: Kaoshkii should be practiced before one’s morning and evening asanas, i.e. twice daily. For brothers, the tandava dance should be done after kaoshikii and before asanas. 

(B) Bending: When dancing kaoshikii it is extremely important to bend the body properly in all four directions to get maximum benefit. Just doing a bend from the shoulders and neck will not do. The body should be fully lengthened when upright and then start the bend from the lower spine (i.e. around the level of the manipura cakra) in the appropriate direction. And each bend should be pure; that means when bending to the sides there should not be any forward motion in the bend. It must be purely a side bend etc, 
a minimum of 45 degree angular bend to the left and right etc. .

(C) Duration: One should practice kaoshikii according to their capacity:  

(1) Essentially, one should do kaoshikii until one is tired or out of breath etc.

(2) The duration or timing is not common for all. A weaker or aged person may get exhausted within a few minutes, or less; whereas, a strong person may not even feel tired after dancing for 10 or 20 minutes. The best approach is to dance kaoshikii until you are exhausted. If the dance is done at a faster pace then naturally one will become exhausted more quickly. 

(3) Remember, according to Ananda Marga teachings, there is no such thing as an asana competition. However, Baba did oversee and give prizes for both kaoshikii and tandava competitions. In those competitions, the winners were selected on the basis of keeping proper form for a maximum amount of time. So, for one’s daily practice, doing the dances to a high degree of proficiency for an extended period - i.e. until one is exhausted - is highly encouraged and quite beneficial.

Unfortunately, at one DMS, the Wt organisers failed to give basic guidelines to our young margii boys and girls about our Ananda Marga dances. This is most disturbing because our innocent youths who participate in DMS activities, like the kaośikii dance, are obviously involved and interested in Ananda Marga. And that interest and enthusiasm should be properly cultivated and harnessed. Yet the Wt organisers and in-charges failed to do the needful and could not guide those innocent youths in the right way.

So it is sad that the efforts of those willing, eager, and youthful margiis, who were trying their best to dance, were undermined by in-charge Wts because those youths were never taught the proper way. And this had a cascading effect. Those in attendance also got the wrong teaching about how dance should be done - as well as all those who heard about it from others etc.

Unfortunately, it was not just our margii boys who were victims - the young girls also suffered. Wt Didis failed to teach those young girls the proper way to dance kaosikii. They did not teach the fundamentals about (a) keeping the arms straight, (b) keeping the vision fixed, (c) having the palms together, (d) bending in the right way, and (e) dancing in unison etc.

It is obvious that the above photo is from one DMS. Unfortunately, Wt Didis could not impart proper kaosikii training to these sincere youths. Some of the girls are trying hard and others simply just do not know what to do. Their arms are not raised properly, and they are all dancing without any rhythm. Some have their eyes closed, some open, some are looking to the sky and others are looking downwards or to the side. It is all over the place. But it is not their fault - they are sincere youths. That is why they came to DMS and eagerly participated.

Opportunity Lost - Many harms done


The whole problem lies with the trainer Didis who could not give those girls the requisite training. This type of display on the dais in front of all gives a very poor impression. 
(a) Those who are new think this is the proper way - those naive people think that these are the best who are dancing. And they got the lesson that doing anything in a haphazard manner is kaosikii.
(b) If general margiis watch people dance kaosikii in an expert manner then those in the audience will be benefitted and learn how they can improve their own dance etc. But that could not happen with this type of display.
(c) Margiis came from remote villages where acaryas never go and they will not see anyone. So this was a lost opportunity to teach them how to properly do AM practices like kaosikii. 
(d) Teens have enthusiasm to learn and do and if it is not done then, they will never get the opportunity to learn and practice. At DMS teenagers always do kaosikii and tandava - not adults. 
(e) To solve this problem various age groups should practice and display at DMS. Otherwise new and aged margiis will think it is not for them. Yet those aged people need it - they are suffering from disease - and kaosikii is the medicine to help cure their ailments - but they are not getting that benefit because they are not practicing.

Sadly, in the above photo our youthful margii girls tried hard but to no fault of their own could not do the dance properly. Those in-charge Didi were remiss in their duty to properly guide those girls. 


What to learn from this


So there are a few points to take away from this:
1. In-charge Wts should be more keen in giving guidelines; lest they always fall short in their duty, and adversely affect the growth of sadhakas.
2. It is very important to give our own youths the proper tools to adhere to Sixteen Points and perform AM dances properly. If our own acaryas are not doing this then who will.

Benefits of kaosikii

Here below are some of Guru’s many guidelines about dance kaosikii. 

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "This [kaośikii] dance is both an exercise, and a medicine for twenty-two diseases. It is a sort of panacea for almost all female diseases, and for many male diseases in younger boys. It is a medicine for most liver diseases. It assures safe deliveries for women, and also checks the advent of old age. It is a medicine." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The heel of the foot is related to the sound tá, the ball of the foot to the sound dhin, and the toes to the sound dhae. In the kaośikii dance all three are utilized." (2)


Conclusion


It is important to inculcate our youths with good teachings and the right method. Just as we teach our margii children about the right way to eat, so they can reap the benefits of a sentient diet for their entire life, similarly our youths should be taught the correct method for practicing Ananda Marga dances like kaosikii so they can get those benefits each and every day. Alas, when our own Wts fail to guide our youths in this endeavor, then there is a big loss. Those youths will not get the benefits of that practice, and even worse, the younger generation will fail to be the torchbearers of our Ananda Marga practices, like the kaosikii dance, as Guru’s system is not being followed.

Special ideation for jinaniis for kaosikii


Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Kaośikii: The two hands when upraised and folded together represent, “Now I am trying to establish a link with Parama Puruśa.” Both hands bending to the right indicate, “I know the right way to request You.” The bending of the body should be at a 45° angular projection. The leftward movement represents, “I know how to fulfil Your demands.” The movement of bending in front suggests complete surrender. The backward bending represents, “I am ready to face all troubles that may come,” The last tá, tá represents, “O Lord, I repeat Your rhythm.”" (3)

Their actions, having no relation to bhágavata dharma, should be considered contrary to humanity and their innate characteristic. Their future is bound to be doomed, like that of a huge tree struck by lightning. The downtrodden masses who long to better themselves should embrace the path of bhágavata dharma. The easiest and most natural way for human civilization and humanity to grow is through bhágavata dharma. There is no other way. Hence, those who sincerely seek the welfare of humanity must uphold bhágavata dharma.” (1)

Self-Inflicted suffering

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “Due to the bonds of obstacles people cannot move ahead. Even if they make efforts to free themselves from these bondages they still do not succeed. The mind does not want to distance itself from those bondages because it gets temporary pleasure from them. A dog cuts its lips chewing on a bone in the cremation ground. Blood flows from them and a little of that blood is swallowed. The dog thinks that this is juice coming from the bone. Much later, when a burning sensation starts coming, then it stops chewing on the bone. The same happens with people. They are not getting juice from the bone but rather blood from their own lips.” (1)




In the below image, the dog is chewing a completely dry, decade-old bone, which has nothing inside. And by chewing it, the dog does not get anything. But in the process of chewing and scraping its mouth on that old, dry bone, that dog cuts its gums and injures itself, unfortunately. But due to ignorance, the dog does not understand. Rather, the dog thinks it is getting something juicy and bloody from the bone, but actually that blood is coming from the dog’s own gums and mouth etc, not from the bone. A similar condition is of humans who indulge in all kinds of vices, for their happiness. They are worse than the dog depicted below. Please go on reading.

Sex addicts, homosexuals, & smokers etc are similar


Those who drink liquor think that they are drinking the nectar of life and getting so much happiness. But in fact they are not getting anything; rather, their drunkenness is coming at the expense of the well-being of their own liver and brain. Those organs—the liver and brain—are getting destroyed by the alcohol, yet the drinker thinks that the alcohol is giving him so much joy.

Similarly, those who overindulge in animal propensities think they are getting peace and comfort. But, in fact, they are polluting and ruining their minds. Their animalistic fix is a recipe for dependence and addiction, yet that person feels they are getting so much satisfaction and delight in such indulgence, and in the end they live in endless suffering, and die prematurely by committing suicide.

In the above cases, the drinker, smoker, and sex addict are no different from the dog that is merely sucking on its own blood when chewing the dry bone. Just as the dog thinks it is getting pleasure from the dry bone when in reality that indulgence is causing its own life-force to wane, the drinker, smoker, and sex addict are ruining their own organs by their chosen indulgence. That is why Baba's analogy is so apt for those involved in harmful habits like drinking, smoking, overeating, watching tamasik movies, doing homosexual acts, as well as for Wts keeping partners, and so many other vices including sexual indulgences without the motive of procreation.

Dog harming itself but does not give up bone


Ananda Marga ideology teaches us, “A dog when it chews a dry bone. The bone contains nothing – no marrow, no flesh, nothing. While chewing that dry bone, its lips get cut and blood oozes out, and when the poor dog tastes the blood, it thinks that it is tasting blood from the bone, and licks even more. If you forcibly snatch the dry bone from the dog, the dog will whimper, because it will feel that its food is being taken away. The dog fails to understand that actually you have done something good for it. The suffering of birth is like the suffering of the dog at that moment. (2)

Ananda Marga ideology states, “These are different varieties of avidyá. It is like a dog chewing a bone. There is nothing in the bone but while chewing the dog’s lips get cut and bleeding starts. The dog sucks its own blood, taking it to be the juice coming out of the bone. Even though actually the dog is getting hurt it imagines that it is licking happiness. Such things happen on account of avidyá.” (3)

Defects of religion

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "On the basis of religion human beings group together and indulge in internecine feuds. Such religions are responsible for spilling the blood of innocent men and women. I don't want to single out any religion as most do not follow the path of logic. Instead they prefer to inject a certain type of cheap sentiment into the human mind to cripple the intellect and impair rational judgement.”

Majhabme akkalká dakhl nehi hae.

[In religion there is no room for logical argument.]

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "In actual fact it makes the clear thinking of the human mind turbid. Religion has always commanded its followers to abide by its tenets. Those who dared show any logic were injected with a kind of fear complex. Moreover, the followers of the religions declared that their teachings were the revelations of God and had to be dutifully followed. Out of fear people submitted to this mandate. This is the basic defect of religion. On the basis of this hundreds of so-called scriptures were written in ambiguous language. Anything that destroys free thinking should not be called a scripture at all. Only that which develops the spontaneous development of human beings deserves to be called a scripture." (1)

Three principles for human beings

  Prout philosophy states, “For the all-round welfare and development of human beings, society needs to follow some fundamental socio-political principles. Without the firm foundation of such principles, disunity, injustice and exploitation will flourish. To avoid this and to safeguard the interests of all people, the leaders of society must ensure that cardinal socio-political principles are strictly followed. Otherwise, individual and collective progress can never be achieved.”
   “There are three cardinal socio-political principles which should never be violated. First, people should not be retrenched from their occupations unless alternative employment has been arranged for them. Secondly, people should not be forcibly converted from one religion to another. Thirdly, no mother tongue should be suppressed. Occupation, spiritual practice and mother tongue are very important to human beings. If the sentiments associated with them are hurt, human beings will be deeply affected. So, you should never violate these cardinal socio-political principles.” (1)

   Prout philosophy states, “If any group tries to violate any of these three cardinal socio-political principles, you should immediately oppose them with a thundering voice and sufficient force. Victory will be yours, because you are supporting the collective psychology. But before launching any movement, you should make sure that the masses are conscious of their exploitation, otherwise the movement will not be successful. Although it may take some time to raise the consciousness of the masses, ultimately you will be victorious.” (2)
