Fallen monk: donkey birthday + 3 more

Baba

Fallen monk: donkey birthday

Namaskar,

This entire letter looks at the phenomenon of various avadhutas / avadhutikas who are celebrating their worldly birthday and glorifying themselves. Such a birthday celebration is called a donkey birthday party. We have to seriously consider the appropriateness of this. Is it consistent with Ananda Marga ideological teachings - or not.

~ One debauched monk snuggling with his young lady friend while celebrating his birthday ~

What is spiritual birth

Baba’s teaching is that during initiation one gets rebirth. Keeping this in mind, it is important to consider and rethink the notion of celebrating one’s physical birth and boosting one’s image.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “With an initiated person the first birth was the physical birth and the second birth was the spiritual birth, during initiation. Such a person is dvija, born twice: First, you are simply born as an animal being. But this second time, as a human being. So unless and until one is initiated one is not, one cannot be, treated as a human being.” (1)

Thus one’s physical birth does not hold much value in the life of a spiritual aspirant. When a person gets initiated onto the path of dharma sadhana, that is their real birth – i.e. getting tantric diiksa and taking shelter at Sadguru Baba’s feet.

Sadhaka life starts where?

Regarding birthdays, it also has to be mentioned that our present life is a part life. It is not a full life. Our life began when our consciousness first emanated from the Cosmic Hub. Since that time we have undergone incarnation after incarnation.

Ananda Vanii states, “After millions of animal lives, a created being attains the human form...” (2)

Next Baba highlights the importance of one’s spiritual initiation as a time of birth.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “In Sanskrit, dvi means “two” and ja means “born”, so dvija means “twice born”…the first birth was the physical birth, and the second birth was the spiritual birth, during initiation.” (3)

One should not think that when the spermatozoa fertilises the egg and ensueing birth is one grand birthday event. Life should be spiritually oriented, not goaded toward the mundane. Every sadhaka in the Marga should reconsider how far they should celebrate their “birthday”. For workers, there is no question of celebrating as they have given up everything of their unit existence for Guru Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji. At each and every juncture or stage of an avadhuta’s / avadhutika’s training they are given a new name because each stage itself represents a new birth – a new beginning, all the while leaving behind their old life. In which case, where is the scope for an avadhuta / avadhutika to celebrate their own worldly birthday and sing their own glory.

Indeed, all sadhakas in the Marga should take a moment and consider the points in this letter and see if really they feel it appropriate and beneficial to celebrate their own birthday and glorify their unit self.

~ Look where this monk has both of his hands ~

Donkey birthday and spirit of avadhuta / avadhutika

The spirit of being an avadhuta / avadhutika is to dedicate everything to Marga Gurudev. By getting avadhuta / avadhutika diiksa and by getting their new avadhuta / avadhutika name, they no longer have anything of their own. In that blessed state, everything belongs to Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji. And Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji is their mother, father, and everything. That is the oath they have taken.

They surrender their all – their entire I-feeling – at His lotus feet. Their name has changed; their address has changed; their identity has changed. They have no past connection with their worldly life, nor their worldly birth. Avadhutas / avadhutikas give everything to Parama Purusa – they have nothing left to call their own.

That is why in the conduct rules of the avadhuta / avadhutika, there is no such thing as the observance of one’s own donkey birthday or any form of celebration or glorification of one’s own unit existence. Rather the avadhuta’s / avadhutika’s goal of life and the be-all end-all of their existence is to glorify Baba’s image. They are to be established solely in Marga’s Guru’s glory.

Wt Conduct Rule states: “Avadhuta / avadhutika shall always keep himself engaged in the service of Gurudeva with sincerity and devotion, in thought, words and deed, in subtle and in crude spheres, in inner and outer expressions of life.” (4)

In that case, there is not an iota of scope to celebrate one’s own unit birthday, and pump up their unit ego. Our wholetimers are to think and focus on Parama Purusa.

Tadekam’ smara’mah…Tadekam’ nidha’nam’

Ananda Marga ideology states, “That Cosmic Entity alone should be created in your mind and no other object…He is the terminating point. He is the Supreme Desideratum.” (5)

How donkey birthday celebration brings degeneration

Celebrating one's own birthday leads to the degeneration of mind. Because by thinking of oneself, highlighting the unit ego, the mind gets smaller and smaller.

And when thinking of oneself in a glorified way by allowing an entire gathering of people to hold a party in your honour and sing happy birthday to you by distorting Baba's compositions of Prabhat Samgiita - which is what some of our acaryas are doing - then this goes against all codes of Wt conduct, etiquette, and spiritual life. Verily this runs contrary to being an Ananda Margii and disciple of the Sadguru Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji. Such a scene will certainly lead to one's degeneration.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Vanity harms the mind in three ways...The second [way] is gaorava, self-aggrandizement or boasting – projecting oneself as a great personality...Is this really something great of which human beings can feel proud? And what is the result of this self-glorification? Raorava means the seventh hell." (6)

Glorifying the unit self is path to degeneration

Some Wts are having the entire room sing happy birthday to them - by manipulating Baba's Prabhat Samgiita which is meant for the arrival of Parama Purusa. In that case, those acaryas themselves are the guest of honour, and everyone is there to celebrate them and jack up their prestige. That makes the entire donkey birthday event just about their own petty I-feeling. Those who are fallen like to do this otherwise true sadhakas sing the glory of Parama Purusa.

Ananda Marga sadhana diminishes the petty ego, enlarges one’s I-feeling, and imposes a universal ideal with the help of the ista mantra: “I am Brahma.” By regular practice, then one golden dawn, one will realise that, “Really, I am Brahma.” But celebrating their own birthday moves in the opposite direction by glorifying the unit self - “I am great.” Just thinking about one’s petty I-feeling the mind becomes smaller and smaller. Then one day such a person will be unfit to even have a human body. That state is negative pratisaincara. That is why Ananda Marga philosophy condemns self-glorification. Because that invites their degeneration. Celebrating one’s own birthday is the equivalent of self-glorification and that is why it is prohibited for Wts and true sadhakas. Baba forbids this.

Conclusion

For every aspirant, their first birth is the biological birth; and their second birth is initiation. For a Wt, their third birth is the name given to become a brahamacarii, and their fourth birth is becoming an avadhuta. Materialists think that their body is everything and life starts when coming from the mother’s womb. But, according to Ananda Marga philosophy, this life is a part-life. Before this life, there have been so many births and deaths, and births and deaths, and births and deaths etc. So why should one, especially a sadhaka, look upon the biological birth in this particular life as “the birthday.” Top of all, birthday celebrations are nothing more than self-glorification. Trying to establish oneself - ie. one pratiśt́há - is like the feces of swine. True sadhakas do not like to glorify themselves rather they venerate Parama Purusa. For all these aforesaid reasons only fake people celebrate their biological birthday and pump up their unit ego. Bhaktas never celebrate their birthday.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Jyoti

Three grade of monks

Some persons may raise the question that when Baba has given the birthday celebration chapter in Caryacarya, then what is wrong if our avadhutas / avadhutikas celebrate their birthday? The answer is quite clear. In Caryacarya, Baba also explains what type of meat a person should eat if they cannot resist eating meat. But that does not mean sincere sadhakas and avadhutas / avadhutikas should also eat meat or that we should appreciate meat eating.

Remember, Caryacayra is our smrti shastra – our social code – which is not eternal. It depends upon time, space, and person. All kinds of people are coming onto the path Ananda Marga. For some, Baba has given such rules for periods of transition onto the path of dharma.

Everyone knows that in Ananda Marga there are three types of sadhakas: pashvacariis (Pashvácára: “Animal Way”, the first level of Tantra practice in which the aspirant struggles against animal instincts), viiracariis (heros), and divyacariis (divine). Pashvacariis are half-margiis; viiracariis are mediocre sadhakas, and those who are very strict and do not compromise on points of dharma are divyacariis. There will always be a mixture of all three grades of sadhakas. Always, new people are coming into human life and they will enter onto the path of pashvacara. After many lives and with the grace of Parama Purusa, they will one day become viiracariis.

This point of eating meat in Caryacarya is for pashvaraiis. They compromise on various aspects of 16 points, but they are also margiis. They live amongst us – we all know this and recognize who is who. A person may not openly declare, “I am a pashvcarii; I am a half-margii”, but everyone knows. When such pashvacariis become strong, established margiis, their manner will be different. Then they will not do such things like eating meat and celebrating their birthday.

Just as meat-eating is a hindrance to those on that path of sadhana. Similarly, indulging in self-glorification – such as celebrating a donkey birthday is not conducive to one’s spiritual progress. Rather it is antithetical. Our spiritual philosophy condemns all forms of self-glorification.

No donkey birthday celebration for Wts

It is very well-known that no Wt or avadhuta / avadhutika should be involved in celebrating their own donkey birthday, boosting their little ego.

Many may recall how in the early 1970's when Ac. Nirmohananda Avt celebrated his own donkey birthday in Daltonganj, then Baba reprimanded him. With His great love, Baba wanted to (a) see Nirmohananda become a sterling example and (b) set the record straight regarding proper WT conduct. So Baba sent a strong message by rebuking Nirmohananda in front of everyone. Seeing this, all workers immediately understood that they have not come on this earth to party and celebrate their own unit birthday and honour themselves. That is not what Baba wants.

Since then nobody asked permission from Baba to arrange the birthday celebration of any avadhuta / avadhutika. Nor did any acarya dare do so. In that case, their degeneration is sure. As Baba warns, their destiny is the depths of hell.

Just donkey’s birthday

In Ananda Marga, if anything is done for superficial show or in an insincere manner then that is not at all acceptable. For instance, if someone serves you food only to show how great they are then Baba terms that food as: donkey food.

In Shabda Cayanika it is described how if food is not offered with proper heartfelt feeling then that food is donkey food, gardabha’nna. So one must not eat that food. (7)

Similarly sadhana done with the primary motive of showing one’s greatness instead of pleasing Parama Purusa is donkey sadhana. And if kiirtan is sung with the primary motive as a display of one’s musical talent and instead of to spread the glory of the Lord, then that is donkey kiirtan. Likewise, when any Wt or avadhuta celebrated their own birthday in their honour instead of spreading the glory of Parama Purusa, then their celebration is a donkey birthday.

About the degraded monk

It is so unfortunate the the degraded monk shown at the beginning of this posting is committing a double sin. First he is celebrating his birthday, and secondly he is snuggling, hugging, and squeezing the opposite sex. What more is going on behind the scenes, it is anyone’s guess. Whatever may be, this type of close touching and dealing with the opposite sex flies in the face of all avadhuta conduct rules. That is why we say this person (Chidrupananda / Cidrupananda) is just a degraded monk. He has his own way of dealing as he just sits in Venezuela surrounded by so many female groupies as they honour and cater to him day-in, day-out, always.

Those who do this type of penance feel love for

"Bándhan jetháy ceye chilum,se bándhan keno ná elo..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3752)

Purport:

Why has the Supreme Charmer, that most radiant Parama Purusa, whom I have been seeking, not come. He is the darkness of my nights as well as the effulgence of my days; He is my everything. Alas, He is remaining far.

I wanted a psycho-spiritual bond with Him to gradually grow closer and closer through the sweet ideation of my Ista mantra, different sadhana lessons, and dhyana etc: In all the ways up to transcendentality and samadhi - until ultimately becoming one with Him. I desired that by calling Him constantly through the repetition & striking of my mantra with bhakti and heartfelt feeling, He will bless me  His effulgence of consciousness. I wanted His eternal kindness, His extreme proximity and oneness. Alas, He is remaining far.

I wish for that bond of supreme prema. By falling in love with Him, His divinity will descend in my unit existence. Those who do this type of penance feel love for His vast creation also, as the neo-humanistic feeling sprouts in their heart. Then sadhaka feels each and every manifestation of this grand universe is their own.

Those sadhakas blessed by Him and engaged in pointed, arduous meditation surely love all beings. O' Parama Purusa Baba, You are my everything...

How to practice brahmacarya

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, “This world is changing, moving. The word jagat (world) is derived from the root, gam-kvip, which means moving. This universe is the psychic manifestation of Brahma. All thought processes are moving and restive, and that is why this world, the psychic manifestation of Brahma. All thought processes are moving and restive and that is why this world, the psychic manifestation of Saguńa Brahma (the Subjectivated Transcendentality), is moving and restive. A thing that appears beautiful today is not necessarily so tomorrow. A sandesh (sweetmeat) that is delicious today will not be fit for consumption after a few days. Indeed one cannot even vouch for its shape still being intact. Every unit is in a state of change, and that is why the pleasure derived from unit objects cannot last permanently. So what should a Sádhaka (spiritual aspirant) do? He or she must ascribe divinity to every unit object. Everything is the manifestation of God. Whether it is land, home, river, mountain, respect, insult, day or night – everything is He and His manifestation as a unit. Make proper use of all objects thinking that they are His gifts to us. To enjoy or endure anything is to enjoy or endure Him. Avoid the attraction of the unit and make contact with the integral whole. When you are able to live this way, the desire to steal the property of others will completely disappear. In Ananda Marga there is a special process through which one can dedicate everything to God. The ascription of divinity to objects means the pursuit of the Infinite, leaving the finite behind. Are you feeding your son? No, no, you are feeding the son-like manifestation of Brahma. Are you tilling the field? No, no you are serving the finite manifestation of Brahma with your plough. Really speaking, the ascription of divinity to objects precludes their material enjoyment, as the objects then merge in the non-material Supreme Brahma. Thus the mind of one, who has established him or herself in real Vaerágya (the renunciation of all sensual pleasures) can never become attached to finite objects. Even in their midst he or she remains beyond the reach of their attraction and gains eternal peace after death.” (1)

Note: Some people are not aware how to practice second lesson. They merely repeat their mantra without taking any ideation. What they do not realise is that ideation is key for the efficacy of second lesson.

Filth of Wts, overseas + 3 more

Baba

Filth of Wts, overseas

Note: This letter is only for those who have reverence for Sadguru Baba Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji and try to follow His Ananda Marga ideology.

Namaskar,

Our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha organisation is for the propagation of Ananda Marga ideology and Ananda Marga spiritual cult. So in the sphere of kiirtan, we only propagate and sing: Baba Nam Kevalam, not any other dogmatic Hindu kiirtan. That is why it is so concerning that on a particular so-called Ananda Marga website, there is a fictitious kiirtan video blasting the Hindu dogmatic kiirtan - Jaya Jagatambe. And this is sitting directly on the homepage in the section titled ‘Featured Videos.’

This video violates our code of Ananda Marga

This is problematic in a number of ways. First and foremost this video violates our codes of Ista and adarsha. Because instead of propagating Sadguru Baba (Ista) and our Baba Nam Kevalam kiirtan, this video is highlighting the imaginary Hindu goddess Kali / Durge worship. They recite the following chant:

Ma kali durge namo namaha
Jagatambe namo namaha

On the so-called Ananda Marga website they are singing a fake kiirtan that glorifies the fictitious and dogmatic, Hindu, fabricated goddesses kali, durga, and jagatambe. Whereas Baba says a sadhaka should chant only one name of the Lord, not multiple. Sadly the makers of this video and in-charges of the AnandaMarga(dot)org website have completely fallen into the dirty, polytheism of Hindu dogma.

See below how the in-charge Dadas of the AnandaMarga(dot)org website highlighted this dogmatic Hindu goddess kiirtan video where one young female is dancing alluringly round and round. Such Dadas have specially featured this video on the website yet it is wrought with western pseudo-culture and Hindu dogma. As you can see, the entire presentation is contrary to our Ananda Marga way of life. Anyone committed to the ideals of Sixteen Points will easily discern how this dogmatic Hindu goddess kiirtan video is against the values of Ananda Marga ideology.

If you already read this up above you may continue on to the next paragraph. But In case you did not read this earlier, by the above photo see how the in-charge Dadas of the AnandaMarga(dot)org website highlighted this dogmatic Hindu goddess kiirtan video where one young female is dancing alluringly round and round.

Dogmatic deity sham kiirtana

First and foremost our aim is to stand for our Ananda Marga values and ideals. On this point Sadguru Baba is uncompromising. From the very beginning, Baba put forth His dharmic code of yama and niyama and rejected the caste system. At the time, the caste system was one of the strongest and most dogmatic pillars of Indian society; but from day 1 Baba rejected it. Back then, some naive people thought that Baba would be able to bring more into the Marga if He accepted the caste system, even temporarily. But Baba's plan was to put forth Ananda Marga ideology and introduce His dharmic teachings. So He gave His code of yama and niyama and rejected the caste system. In result, the world understood that Ananda Marga is strict in dharma, and good people immediately came forward to join AM. Maybe many dogmatic types would have joined if the caste system was embraced, but then it would not have been Ananda Marga. It would have been just another dogma.

Likewise, if Baba had not given the do's and don'ts of yama and niyama, maybe crude people would have joined because then they could drink wine etc, but then it would not have been AM. Those good people who were looking for a dogma-free path would have kept themselves far away as well. So Baba clearly advocates the approach of maintaining the precepts of our ideology from the get-go. And seeing this, good people will come. Baba does not appreciate accepting various dogmas in order to attract all kinds of participants or elements etc - as was done in the above video.

Conclusion

Suppose you have the desire to attract parrots but somehow you thought that the best bait is the flesh of a dead animal. So you tie that animal flesh to a branch of the tree to attract the parrot. The next morning you will find vultures hovering over that animal flesh - not parrots. Due to your ignorance you put the wrong bait for attracting parrots. In the same way, if in hopes of attracting new margiis you used Hindu, dogmatic, fictitious, dirty kiirtan as bait on your website, then you will see that only narrow-minded, outdated, dogmatic Hindus became attracted, not neo-humanistic Ananda Margii youths. Because you are using the wrong bait. Our bait should be aligned with Ananda Marga ideology.

in Him,
Priiti

How deity Durga goddess dogma started

In His books Namah Shivaya Shantaya and Ananda Vacanamrtam part 11, Baba dedicates chapter after chapter to unearthing and explaining the dogmatic nature of all the Hindu gods and goddesses. He calls them mythical, imaginary, and labels them as nothing more than rotten dogma. And here Baba points out how the origin of worshiping goddess Durga was just a crude manifestation of narcissism and wealth. It has no base in devotion or spirituality. So it is a dogma in the most fundamental and rudimentary way.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The system of worshipping the goddess Durgá was first introduced in Bengal by Kaḿsa Náráyańa Ráy, the king of Táhirpur of Rájsáhi District, now in Bangladesh. King Kaḿsanáráyańa had a lot of wealth. He told the pandits, “I have so much wealth, I would like to hold the Rájasuya Sacrifice.” The pandits said, “O king, in Kali Yuga there is no system for holding the Rájasuya Sacrifice. But since you have so much money, you can celebrate the worship of the goddess Durgá in accordance with the instructions in the Márkańd́eya Puráńa.”" (1)

Jai durge namo namaha kiirtan in name of AM is sin

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The story goes that Kaḿsanáráyańa Ráy spent as much as 700,000 rupees for the worship of the goddess Durgá. 700,000 of the rupees of those days means almost 70 million rupees today. It was a huge expense, and this sparked a competition among the other kings and landlords. The following year King Jagadvaballabh (his name was Jagat Náráyańa according to other sources) spent 850,000 rupees on the worship of the goddess. In this unhealthy process of competition, the worship of the goddess Durgá became an affair restricted only to the wealthy landlord households." (2)

The creation of Durga kiirtana was upon founded imagination & dogma, and has no relation with bhakti yoga. So doing the kiirtan of goddess Durga today will not bring the practitioner any closer to god. Indeed, Baba has invested much time and energy in educating us about the dangers of idolatry. So we should pay heed to His warning and not fall into ritualistic and dogmatic approaches like Durga kiirtana. Nor should we allow others to do so. In Caryacarya, Baba specifically warns us about idol worship, like Durga kiirtana etc.

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "As, in principle, you do not support the philosophy of those who, in the name of worship of God, indulge in idolatry, do not participate in their ceremonies." (3)

In straight language, Sadguru Baba tells us "not to participate in their ceremonies".

Which Wts are culprits

The AnandaMarga(dot)org website seems to be run by a patchwork of Wts. Here is key registration information about this site:

Here Baba gives the warning about the noxious, degrading, and vulgar ways of pseudo-culture. Baba points out the disastrous effect of such crude activities.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "If someone makes a sound like 'ra, ra, ra -- cha, cha, cha' or if someone sings, 'Follow my song! Let us sing and dance our way to hell', these are sound inferences, but they carry a very crude idea." (4)

~ This is the website that is hosting, supporting, featuring & highlighting tis dogmatic video ~

The website organisers have fully immersed themselves in western pseudo-culture as the central singer / dancer in the video is a young, sultry, half-naked woman. Astonishingly, the video is entitled “The Bhaktas” but this whole entire video has nothing to do with bhakti and everything to do with Hindu religious dogma etc. It is a real shame.

Baba, You knocked on the door of my hut

"Jhaŕa jhainjháy varaśáy, tumi esechile amánisháy..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2492)

Note: This Prabhat Samgiita composition depicts how when a sadhaka experiences frustration, feels all alone, faces tragedy, and is engulfed in misery, then Parama Purusa comes and transforms everything in life. That is the scene in this song.

The dark, stormy, amavasya (new moon) night represents life's miseries and tragedies. Parama Purusa’s knocking on the door shows how when a sadhaka is very frustrated and unable to call Parama Purusa, remember Him, or attract Him in dhyana, then He comes to help. The last stanza illustrates how frustrations turn into solutions, and sadness turns into joy. Life has become extremely positive and blissful, by His grace. Such is the metaphor that is depicted in this song.

The overall teaching is that when tragedy strikes and the sadhaka has neither the strength nor presence of mind to call Him, then Parama Purusa showers His grace, comes, and rescues him. This transformation occurs in all spheres of life: Physical, psychic, and spiritual.

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, on that dark amavasya night when a huge hurricane was storming and pouring rain, You came. The little door of my hut was closed. I was all alone in my house - sleeping. I was so neglected; nobody cared for my whereabouts. I was lost and forgotten. But You came that night.

Baba, You are so merciful. You knocked on the door of my hut with Your own hand. The sound of Your grand arrival awakened me. It was so blissful; my whole existence became charged. I was suffused with the bliss of Your divine presence and the showering of Your grace. With a sweet and tender wave of Your hand You motioned for me to come out from the dark hut. And lovingly You told me, "Come close and smile to your heart's content." You also told me that, "Now see this world in a new way, with a new form."

And that time one unbelievable thing happened. You changed the entire scene. My little hut became huge - as vast as the three worlds. Virtually all the three worlds became one. I could see even the stars, galaxies and nebulae - they all came close. That time my heart was completely filled and inundated with the eternal flow of Your grace, love, and compassion.

O' Parama Purusa, O' Baba, You showered Your causeless grace on me that very dark night when I was all alone, neglected, and sad...

What happens to those who fall prey to greed

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Whether one be a philanthropist or a star athlete, one desires to see what is written about them in the newspaper. This means that in trying to do some good work, what are they really doing? They are falling under the sway of one propensity, the propensity of greed. Now if this act is encouraged by the society, that is, if the newspapers dedicate a lot of attention to such news, or if people in general say, “Sir, whatever you are doing is unparalleled in history. Sir, we are not eulogizing you. We are simply telling the truth” – if they praise such a person in this way and then try to extract some money from them (there are such intelligent people around) – then what does it amount to indirectly? The propensity of greed increases. Which animal is the greediest among the animals with which we are all very familiar? It does not like to give up greed in spite of ill treatment and humiliations. It is the cat. Yes, after moving a few steps ahead, the cat forgets that it was beaten. So, that particular person is reborn as a cat after death, because that body affords an opportunity for the satiation of their greed. When the housewife looks around inattentively, the cat sneaks into the kitchen through the small opening in order to reach the milk or fish in the kitchen. So in order to exhaust the samskáras one needs an appropriate body. Some people obtain a new body immediately after death and others obtain it later. But one has to obtain it somehow."
"One who is doing philanthropic work today, tries to find out tomorrow whether or not their name appeared in the newspaper. They have no desire to read the other news. They read the news that relates to themselves twenty times but do not go through the other news with much enthusiasm. If someone asks they might say that today there was only one important piece of news, nothing else. That is how a person comes under the sway of a propensity and remains subject to the cycle of birth and rebirth." (1)

Avadhuta? + 3 more

Baba

Avadhuta?

Note: This letter is only for those who have reverence for Sadguru Baba Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji and try to learn and follow His Ananda Marga ideology.

Namaskar,

According to Baba's teaching, monks must only maintain a link with the universal family. Our Wts are not to have any connection with their unit family whatsoever. Thus if anybody does not wish to leave their worldly, unit family then they should not become a monk. Although both family life and monk life are important in their own ways, but one of the qualities of becoming a monk is that they must give up all relations with their worldly / laokik family. What has been expressed above is not new to anyone, rather this is the common longstanding rule and way of life in Ananda Marga.
https://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com/

Baba's rules for avadhutas

Indeed since long Baba has instituted such rules for Wts.

Wt conduct rule states, "One should not talk of one's family affairs." (1)

Thus according to the Baba's conduct rule, avadhutas must not talk about their worldly family. In the same spirit Baba has given another rule for wholetimers. In "32 Rules for Avadhuta", Baba has put for the following rule.

Wt conduct rule states, "No relationship should exist with worldly family." (2)

For an avadhuta Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji is everything. Father, mother, brother, sister all relations. However, not all are adhering to Baba's guidelines and mandates.

In particular one long-time avadhuta has written tales of his life with his worldly (laokik) family from before he was an avadhuta. Yet he is doing so using his avadhuta name. So this is entirely wrong and against the principles of being avadhuta. Because an avadhuta has completely forsaken all worldly ties and wholly embraced Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji as their everything.
https://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com/

Avadhutaship is rebirth of that person

According to our Ananda Marga scripture, avadhuta means new life. That is why a new name has been given. Thus becoming avadhuta is like being re-born. Verily at each and every juncture or stage of an avadhuta's development and training - from trainee to brahmacarii to acarya and finally to avadhuta - they are given a new name. Because each stage represents a departure from the old and a new birth-- a new beginning. So those renunciates are leaving their old life behind. In which case, where is there scope for an avadhuta to reminisce publicly about life with his laokik / worldly family.

Everything is new: New name, new uniform, new look, new identification. Everything is entirely new. And one no longer has any link with their old life. That is the real spirit of becoming avadhuta.

For example, suppose one beggar was a king in his previous life but now he is a beggar - or vice versa. In that case of now being a beggar, he cannot go back and tell the queen that 'I am your husband so please accept me.’ Because the history of one's previous life has no meaning in this practical world.

In the same way, the life of an avadhuta is treated as a re-birth. And in that case Sadguru Parama Purusa Himself is the father, mother, everything. This is a very lofty teaching of Baba which has great charm. Unfortunately one or two have forgotten all these points. And they did just opposite from what the dharma of avadhuta life is. Please read below how one avadhuta has written worldly gossip in his own book about his former life and his relation with his worldly family.

Demi-avadhuta's extravaganza: reminiscing laokik family-1

Our avadhuta wrote:
  • (A) "I also tried many jobs, each for a few months, including working as a lawyer's investigator, a postman, a construction worker, a supermarket clerk, and many varied jobs on a golf course." <end>
And after writing the above about himself he goes on to write about and describe all the members of his laokik / worldly family. Yet this is done in his own autobiography which is supposed to be about someone from the west who became an avadhuta. Here below our avadhuta is talking about his laokika father and laokika mother:
  • (B) "I was brought up in a middle-class suburb north of Chicago. My father was a trial lawyer and my mother was a housewife-cum-oil painter." <end>
So here above in print this avadhuta has written about his laokika father and mother as if those are still his real parents - even after becoming avadhuta. But that is not all,  here below Dada is eulogizing about the worldly talents of his laokik sister. Our avadhuta wrote:
  • (C) "My only sibling was a sister who achieved a fair degree of international fame as a cellist in a top-notch trio." <end>
So like that in his book this avadhuta write about all his worldly family relations, when we all know Baba has given the rule that avadhutas must not maintain any link with their worldly family. Nor is an avadhuta allowed to speak of his worldly family. Doing so is against Guru’s rules of avadhuta. But even then our avadhuta Dada does not stop there.
https://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com/

Demi-avadhuta's extravaganza: reminiscing boyhood pet dog-2

Our avadhuta wrote in his book:
  • (D) "The most extraordinary member of our family was our dog, Judy, whom I once calculated knew one hundred and fifteen words, responding to each of them even when they were spoken in monotone. For example at the faintest mention of the word 'bath', she would raise her ears and dive behind the sofa. Judy once indicated to me that the best place for meditation was actually right there, behind the sofa, where no one could disturb her, though I believe she was joking." <end>
Thus in these [above] mentioned four quotations, first our Avadhuta Dadaji wrote about his own worldly life before enter the Marga and becoming an avadhuta etc, then about his worldly / laokika parents, and then his worldly sister and then, in the end, about his worldly pet dog. All of which goes against the letter and spirit of Baba's mandates for avadhutas.

Conclusion

Of course if such writing would have been done by a regular family person then that would have been acceptable; it would not have been against any codes of coduct. Because family persons have a responsibility to maintain a link with their laokika parents etc. But here with our Dadaji the case is different because he is WT and not only that but in his book he is claiming himself as the first westerner to become avadhuta. Yet in his book he is breaking those very rules for being avadhuta. That is the central reason why his writing is not at all acceptable. Because Baba does not approve of any avadhuta maintaining any link or relations with their worldly family.

Namaskar,
Pavitra

~ In-depth study ~

Rebirth of the avadhuta means old personality is dead

Here again it should be said that Avadhuta means new life or new existence because a new birth happens whereby one receives new name, a new uniform, and a new identity. So when a person becomes an avadhuta then the old personality is dead, nothing remains. That is the true avadhuta in real sense - otherwise if they are reverting back and engaging in their old life then they are just fakes. Because talking about old things and using their new avadhuta name is just hypocrisy. So best if if no avadhuta should write about their laokik family as it is unbecoming and against the spirit of being avadhuta.

They will form a negative opinion about our avadhutas

With regards to the avadhuta who wrote about his laokika family and their dog etc, he should announce to different media that this book should be re-edited. And with the respect of WT conduct rules, he should take out these above mentioned totally negative writings which goes against Baba's teaching. Otherwise (a) innocent people in confused state will think that our avadhutas must have relation with their worldly family; (b) If anybody will read this very page and if they know about Baba's teaching then surely they will form a negative opinion about our avadhutas on the whole; (c) whenever writing nothing should be written which goes against Baba's teaching. Otherwise the entire purpose of the book is in question. When obviously the purpose of writing was to project Baba's teaching but unfortunately it is doing something else.

In this present era when our organisational leadership is fractured and many workers are not getting TP's or attending reporting, there is a lot of freedom amongst our Wt's. Some are using this freedom for dharmic purposes: Doing pracara and sadhana. And some are using this freedom in another direction: Indulging in social violations etc.

More about conduct of any acarya

Guru says in His discourse entitled Conduct of Acarya: "Those who have the responsibility to show the path to others should be of superlative character with the most refined conduct. They and their followers must move constantly towards all-round development and shreya [ultimate spiritual attainment]. Persons who teach such well-regulated behaviour to others by their own conduct are called ácáryas." (3)

Guru says in His discourse entitled Conduct of Acarya: "Bear in mind that people may be harmed or misled by even a small weakness or defect in the conduct of an ácárya. Just as it is the duty of a father to educate his children properly by his good conduct, an ácárya or ácáryá should always instruct by his or her exemplary actions and words." (4)

Ananda Marga philosophy warns how improper leadership brings terrible harm to society.

Ananda Marga ideology says, “Today there is catastrophe and misery in human society and there is one reason: the defective leadership of society. People blindly follow even unintelligent leaders. The leaders hypnotize and attract thousands with their tall talks, gestures and other dramatics. Understand that the poverty and misery of any people in any country are the sins of the leaders. True leaders should always be vigilant and think how to work best for human society: they must be ever cautious that under their guidance the people are not led to darkness, death and immorality.” (5)

Snake inside the house is more dangerous

Here is an English summary of Sadguru Baba’s the above Hindi teaching: If our own person or relative deviates from the truth or is lacking sincerity, oppose him. Do not tolerate him. It does not matter if he is our own relative. If our own person is dishonest and insincere then he is more dangerous. If a snake is living outside the house in the wild it is dangerous, but if that snake enters inside the house then it is more dangerous. Therefore wrongdoers of the organisation should be opposed more strongly. (7)

In His above guideline Baba explains that bad elements in society are dangerous, but bad elements inside your house - inside your organisation - are more dangerous. Do not tolerate them, benevolently oppose them. So they can rectify their ways and become an asset to our Ananda Marga society.

Baba You came as Mahasambhuti

Note: Only those who sincerely practice the higher lessons of sahaja yoga meditation can understand this song in the depths of their heart.

"Yugántarer tamasá náshite, álor jhalake esechile..." (Prabhat Samgiita #4718)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, to eliminate the darkness piled up over the ages, You came in the flow of light. In those dark days of the distant past the whole society was drowned in dogma and everyone was suffering in pain and agony. In that desperate moment, in a flash of lightning - floating in the rhythm of dance, You took advent as Mahasambhuti. You came and showered Your grace to wipe away the age-old staticity and inundate this earth with bhakti.

Baba, O’ Parama Purusa, before Your auspicious arrival, it was very bleak; there was no positive pulsation of life. Just there was sorrow and misery in every direction. People were depressed. The society was submerged in the murkiness of materialism and selfishness. There was greediness, infighting, and hatred all around.  Nobody had the stamina to shake the struggling humanity from its inertia. No one valiantly came forward and declared, “Arise, awake, the new dawn has come! Get rid of all dogma and follow the path of neo-humanism!” No one called out, “Always keep the great ideology in mind: True progress is only when one is advancing towards divinity, Supreme fulfillment, and the Cosmic Entity.”

Baba, Your victorious chariot is fast moving forward, with its rattling sound, in the bhuloka, duloka, and triloka and throughout the infinite arena. Your exquisite vibration is reaching each and every corner of this vast cosmos. The entire universe is being transformed in all the realms: physical, psychic, and spiritual. O’ Parama Purusa, You told everyone this eternal truth, “In your frustration do not sit and cry in the depths of hell. Arise, awake, and follow the sublime path. Human life is very valuable and you must not forget that Your destination is Parama Purusa.” Baba, You bestowed this magnificent and blessing upon all.

O’ Parama Purusa, You came and wiped away all the darkness by infusing Your endless effulgence. It is Your grace, it is Your mercy...

Note about Prabhat Samgiita #4718:

The below passage from Ananda Marga ideology following discourse expresses the conclusive idea of this Prabhat Samgiita.

Ananda Marga ideology says, "O human beings, you are fortunate. The clarion call of the Universal has reached you. Not only has the call come, but you are hearing it and it is vibrating in every cell of your body. Will you now lie in the corner of your house as an inert being and waste your time by clinging to old skeletons and bemoaning them? The Supreme Being is calling you in the  roar of the ocean, in the thunder of the clouds, in the speed of lightning, in the meteor's flaming fires. Nothing good will come from idleness. Get up and awake the clouded chivalry of your dormant youth. It may be that the path is not strewn with flowers and that inferiority complex will be attempting to hold fast your each advancing step, but even then you have to proceed onwards tearing the shroud of darkness. You will tear the thick darkness of despair as you advance in the racing chariot radiant with the Sun's brilliance towards the attainment of the Supreme state." (1)

Those same divine ideas which Sadguru has given in His various discourses are also present in Prabhat Samgiita. That means the ideas which have been given in prose have also been given in the music and poetry of Prabhat Samgiita. The main difference between Ananda Marga ideological discourses and Prabhat Samgiita is that Prabhat Samgiita is quite concentrated. Those teachings of Prabhat Samgiita are presented in a very condensed form - such as in half a line or less; whereas in Ananda Marga discourses that same idea might be explained over the course of several pages or more. That is why without proper translations and purports, Prabhat Samgiita is often unintelligible.

Who cannot accept their mistake

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Those who are egotistic will not accept their mistake even when they discover it. They will say, “You see, it seems I made a mistake and So-and-so has pointed it out. This is a great insult to me – I cannot tolerate it! Though he may have spoken the truth, it is beneath my dignity to accept it. It is too humiliating! If I even admit that I have harmed the people, that will be a great slur on my character – how can I allow that to happen? So I will continue to maintain that what I have done is right. This may harm people, but I must make sure that my prestige is not injured.” (1)
