Sadhana relationships + 4 more

Baba
Sadhana relationships

Namaskar,

This letter addresses the types of relations a bhakta can have with Parama Purusa. This is an important topic for all sadhakas. These types of spiritual feelings are special aspects of Ananda Marga sadhana, the path of bliss.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

In human life, people have all kinds of desires, and most resort to animalistic tendencies in their pursuit of materialism and sensuality. As Ananda Margiis, we are embarking on the path of true spirituality; we are travelers on the path of life divine. Our goal is to realize and attain Parama Purusa.

Types of relations with Parama Purusa

Here below we briefly outline the various relations a bhakta might have with Parama Purusa. As one's level of bhakti rises, ultimately in the culminating moment the sadhaka likes either da'sya bháva or madhura bháva, as described below.

(A) Basic: In the rudimentary stage of bhakti, the sadhaka thinks that God exists and resides somewhere in this universe, but feels no personal relationship with Him. Just the sadhaka views God as being the judge of some court.

(B) Father: As one's bhakti grows, the sadhaka starts to develop a closer link with Him and feels that, “Parama Purusa and I are part of the same family.” This often leads to the Father-son relation. In the Father-relation there is a respectful, loving, and personal relation with Him. But the bhakta does not feel very close where he can share everything with Him.

(C) Vatsalya Bháva: In this stage the sadhaka cares for the Lord as their child. So here too a familial relationship has been formed, but it is not very, very close. Countless margiis and also sadhakas like Surdas had this type of relation.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

(D) Sakhya Bháva: When one views Parama Purusa as their friend, then that bhakta opens up in a more personal manner and shares all kinds of inner thoughts and feelings with Parama Purusa. Sadhakas like historical Arjuna plus many margiis & wts etc had this type of relation. In the highest stage of bhakti, one feels one of the following relations: Da'sya bháva or madhura bhava. It generally depends upon one's inherent samskaras and way of relating with Parama Purusa in dhyana.

(E) Da'sya Bháva: Slave relation. In this bhava, the sadhaka views Parama Purusa as their Master. In that case, one vows to do each and everything for Him as He is the Master. In the mythological story of the Ramayana, the great imaginary bhakta Hanuman is depicted as an example of a sadhaka with da'sya bhava.

(F) Madhura Bháva: This is the sweetest, most loving relationship with Parama Purusa. The path of madhura bháva is very charming where the sadhaka accepts Parama Purusa as their Dearest One. Many margiis and wts and also great sadhakas like Miirabai, Rádhá etc come in this category. This is a very close relationship where there is a very intimate feeling between the bhakta and Parama Purusa.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Those with some kind of bhakti will fall in one of the above categories. Remember that one's relation with Him is based on one’s inner feeling; it is not some type of external show. A sadhaka cannot just beat the drum and brag with a booming voice that they got a particular type of bháva (relation). One's relations with Parama Purusa is purely an internal affair, not some type of superficial display. This is a very intimate and personal topic where one should see how close they feel in their heart with Parama Purusa Baba.

Maturation of relation

In His below teaching, Baba guides us that at the culmination of one’s personal link with Him then the relation matures into one of two bhávas: dasya bháva or madhura bháva.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “When this sakhya bháva matures, when this love for Parama Puruśa deepens, it is transformed either into dásya bháva or into madhura bháva. “Parama Puruśa is my best friend. He loves me.” When a person thinks like this, he or she draws close to Parama Puruśa. From a distance one cannot feel His greatness, but when one comes within His proximity one realizes that He is unfathomable, immeasurable, and thinks: “Oh, although He is my sakhá [my friend], how great He is! How vast! I consider myself fortunate to have come so close to Him.” When one thinks in this way, oneʼs sakhya bháva is transformed into dásya bháva. One then feels that since Parama Puruśa is so great and loves one so much, it is oneʼs duty to serve Him and fulfil His desire in every possible way. One feels, “Since He is earnestly seeking human welfare it is my duty to do His work.” This is the spirit of dásya bháva. “He is my Master, my Lord – I am His servant.” And the spirit of madhura bháva is as follows: “He is so vast, endowed with innumerable attributes, yet even then He loves me. He is so great, yet He is still my most intimate friend, so very close to me. What joy! What joy!” This is madhura bháva.” (1)

Bhakti & middleman

Dogmatic people cannot digest this type of intimate and close link with Parama Purusa. They think of God as being far away in the distant fictitious heaven etc. In that case, there is no question of having any relation; the gap is so vast. There is no direct communication; one must go via a third party, i.e. priest. Indeed, puja’ will not be successful without a purohit puja'ri. In those religions, they preach that to realize God one must go via others. Just like how dogmatic people need a middleman / religious cheat to communicate with their object of worship. Actually, that type of relation is no relation at all; one is very far. If forced to attach a name to that type of relation, it will be termed as "alien relation." Because one is so far away, there is no way for the bhakta to share their feeling of the heart with their object of worship.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Across the ages, only great bhaktas have fully realised and experienced a loving, intimate relation with their Lord. For example, Rádhá and the great bhakta Miirabai formed a deeply personal and intimate madhura bháva relation. Surdas had a deeply personal va’tsalya bhava link with Parama Purusa. These are a few examples of many great bhaktas.

What is Rádhá

Ananda Marga philosophy states, ”The further the jiivas move towards Parama Puruśa, the more elevated their minds become. When they reach a very subtle stage of elevation, their concentrated mind-stuff speeds towards Him with the one-pointedness of an arrow. Such a mentality is called Rádhá....What is Rádhá bháva? When devotees feel in their heart of hearts that their existence is meaningless without attaining Lord , that they cannot survive a single moment without feeling His blissful presence, they have attained the stage called Rádhá. Such devotees know nothing other than árádhaná [total mental absorption” (2)

Note: Some ignorant people think that Radha is a female of Vrindaban. But that is not true. 'A-grade' devotees are Radha, whether they are male or female or anyone.
https://anandamargauniversal.blogspot.com/

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Krśńa is not a male being of Vrindavan, and Rádhá is not a lady. You should understand it properly.” (3)

In dhya'na, a sadhaka should always follow the type of relation that feels most natural at that time. Forcing or pretending to follow a particular bha'va is meaningless; rather it is highly detrimental. Ours is the path of sincerity and naturalness.

What is chief Gopii bháva

The following is what Sadguru Baba describes in His Hindi MGD 2 November 1979 Kullu:

Within this gopii bháva there are two grades. One is lower and one is higher. As long as a sadhaka is still making efforts to establish himself in gopii bháva then they are in lower gopii bháva (gaon’a’ gopii bha’va). When one is fully established in gopii bhava, without any imposition or effort, then they are in higher gopii bháva (mukhya’ gopii bhava). Another name of mukhya’ gopii bháva is radha bhava. Rádhá bháva is the highest bhakti. In a natural, effortless manner, these great bhaktas of Radha bháva love Parama Purusa unconditionally. They think, “Whether Parama Purusa loves me or not, I will go on loving Him.” (English summary)

You brought me

"Ámáy keno bhálobásile, guń nái, guń nái jinánao nái..." (Prabhat Samgiita #2283)

Purport:

My Parama Purusa, You are so loving and gracious; why do You love me so much. I do not have any quality or merit; nor do I have any knowledge or learning. What then did You observe in me that made You pour Your karuna on me.

Baba, You have given me a healthy physical body, a sound mind, and a heart filled with bhakti, and saturated my core with a strong feeling for realisation of the Supreme. You have bestowed upon me an awakened intellect to serve society. Knowing that I am helpless and have no one besides You as my own, You have granted me everything, above and beyond - more than what was needed - in all realms. It is Your causeless grace.

Parama Purusa Baba, You brought me onto this earth by providing me with a human form. You filled my mind with spiritual yearning and infused a strong longing of paramartha for You. Even then, such is my miserable condition: I always remain forgetful about You and Your grace. Baba, why do You love me so much…

How to overcome provincialism etc

In His below teaching, Baba guides us that when we see someone supporting a particular group or an agenda based on caste, creed, colour, race, then we should be alert. By digging down, we will find that the person is not sincere in sadhana. Because Ananda Marga sadhana is the sadhana of the infinite Parama Purusa. By ideating on Him, the mind becomes larger and more vast. That is why standard sadhakas do not support any kind of groupism etc. So watch out: if someone is supporting any group then try to politely convey that they should increase their sadhana. By this way their mind will expand; and, thereafter from the core of their heart they will naturally keep their distance from any type of lowly outlook like groupism etc. This following quote from Sadguru guides us in this direction.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "The more the human mind becomes magnanimous or expanded, the more it rises above the sentiments of tribalism, communalism, provincialism, etc. Often I hear people say that nationalism is an appreciable sentiment and that there is no narrowness in it. But is this true? Nationalism is also relative, just like tribalism, communalism or provincialism. In some places it is more worthwhile than tribalism, communalism or provincialism, while in other places it is less worthwhile..."
"Hence it is observed that communalism, casteism, provincialism and nationalism are all of the same defective type. Those who are able to capitalize on one of these sentiments advocate it volubly. In fact, every one of these sentiments suffers from the defect of ism, and is completely filled with narrowness, violence, envy, mean mindedness, etc. Those who enter the field of social welfare by creating divisions between “yours” and “mine”, substantially widen the fissures of fissiparous intellect in human society."
"Those who want to promote the welfare of all human beings, remaining above all sorts of parochial sentiments, have no alternative but to embrace universalism with their heart and soul – there is no other way. As universalism is totally devoid of any characteristic of ism, it is not proper to depict universalism as an ism. If everyone is looked upon as one’s own, no one remains beyond the periphery of one’s kith and kin. Naturally, then, there is no scope for violence, envy, narrowness, etc….The more the human mind becomes magnanimous or expanded, the more it rises above the sentiments of tribalism, communalism, provincialism, etc." (1)

Sexual impotence & the degradation of society

Here Baba outlines the cause of seminal weakness [impotency] which is a serious problem these days.

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments states, "Lack of proper sexual knowledge in adolescence or early youth, loss of semen through unnatural means, lack of restraint in married life and failing to follow the rules for fasting, bathing...are causes of seminal weakness. Seeing pornographic pictures or films, reading pornographic literature, etc are also to be forsaken...most cases of this disease are due to overindulgence; so one should keep control over his thoughts and actions. The male should stay away from feminine company as long as the disease is not fully cured. During the disease naes't'hika brahmacarya (complete abstinence) must be observed." (1)

Note: This problem exists all around the globe but even more so in European / western countries, or wherever materialism is in vogue, because of rampant unmarried teenage relations / pre-marital sex. First, young males and females become sexually active and then after many years they may or may not marry. And many times it happened that no marriage ever happens; just males and females continue to live together--i.e  with the opposite sex. And in that condition they produce children, or often times the females get an abortion. And this leads to more and more impotency. This has become quite common these days in so-called advanced countries and one outcome of this is that adoptive agencies are filled with gold coins. They bring children from very poor areas -  like Africa, and parts of Asia - free of cost and sell them to Euro-American countries for thousands of dollars. But the main problem is that both impotence and infertility are on the rise. And this problem is gradually spreading all around the globe. Essentially, wherever materialism is increasing, side by side impotence is also on the rise.

Part and parcel of the problem is that illicit relations are no longer treated as illicit. Young girls tell their father and mother openly that they have sexual relations. And in reply they are encouraged and praised for finding a male. And when the young unmarried female gets pregnant then in one festive atmosphere she and her mate invite parents to join in a baby naming ceremony. So there is no shame involved.

Altogether in western countries new terms have been invented: "Biological mother" and "biological father". Those not aware should know that it means that the father and mother never got married. Rather the mother ended up marrying a different male. So those children have "two fathers". Their "biological" father who does not live with them, and their "other father" or "at-home" father-- that is the male whom their biological mother married or just lives with. And of course the situation can be reversed also.

Altogether the ones who suffer the most in all of this are the mothers and the children because in most of the cases male partners leave and choose a new young female somewhere else. So multiple losses are there-- not only sexual loss / impotency or infertility. Multiple drastic negative effects occur such as the ruination of the social structure and also the spread of various types of diseases including AIDS. The root cause is improper education. Tragically, this drastic trend starts at the tender young age of 8 or 9 for both males and females.

Another point common people are oblivious about is that females are getting exploited. Common people are not aware; females are just treated as sexual tools for enjoyment. Nothing more. And here are more points:

- This happens in materialistic society because adults have no-control; they severely lack restraint.
- Then children grow in that environment and by the age of puberty they themselves are producing children. I.e. the "mother" is still a child and she has a child.
- Because of toxins, chemicals, excess protein, and poor nutrition of company food, the age of puberty is decreasing. So there is less and less emotional maturity when their sexual glands develop.
- In total, the whole entire scene is way out of bounds.

Baba's teachings only can save humanity on this critical point.

Re: How faith develops on God

Namaskar,

For some unknown reason...BABA chose me to see Him. In 1970 I was practicing asanas on my living room floor in the USA at midnight. I had fallen asleep. I awoke suddenly to a radio announcement that there would be a lecture at Carnegie Tech University now Carnegie Mellon. The announcer mentioned Yatiishvaranabda's name so I had my wife call the radio station the next day for particulars.

I called two friends both classical pianists to go with me. They put "yes" and "no" in a hat and pulled a "yes" out if it. So we sat in the back rows amongst so many hippies - almost all college students .

Dada Y's accent was so strong I couldn't understand him, but the title of his lecture was the Chariot and the Charioteer, which was the title of one of Baba's discourses. As Dada and newly initiated poeple left the hall they walked past  me. I thought this is the real deal. I noticed one brother who wore a pratiika with swastika. I thought these people either are crazy for wearing a swastika combined with Star of David or they are  courageous. For many Jewish students were there. At the time I did not know the ancient history of the swastika or the upward and downward pointing triangles given By Lords Shiva and Krsna. When I was initiated that evening at 3am by Dada Y I was the last of many. He said no more for blood came out of his ear!

When I saw BABA for the first time BABA was delivering discourses about Lord Krsna. How fortunate we are! How very few saw Him talked with Him received His blessing and / or Dharma Samiiksa!
I wondered then as I wonder now - for I do not long for liberation. I long to be near Him always. To be His coolie if need be. He can liberate everyone before me. What kind of gentleman would I be to barge into line before my brothers and sisters? What is the well known want in India? I don't want to be sugar I want to taste sugar.
BABA His greatness the undiscovered mystery. No one knows the secret!

When will they cast aside the burkas and veils

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “A handful of unprincipled, power-hungry men propagated these [religious] doctrines in order to paralyse women’s reasoning, and to inflate men’s vanity. This doctrine is against nature and we have only to look out into this wide world to find numerous proofs against it. Can anybody drape a burka over a tigress? Is there anyone with enough courage to do it? Can anyone dictate to a tigress, “You cannot cross this boundary,” or “You cannot take part in games and sports, for this is prohibited to women”? Those who propagated these doctrines were not only unprincipled, they were also well aware of the inherent loopholes in their arguments. That is why they did not propagate their ideas directly in their own name. On the contrary, they propagated all those ideas in the name of God. They proclaimed them as the gospels of God; no one shall dispute it; one has to accept it without a murmur. When women will develop a sense of self-respect and be like other spirited creatures, they will cast aside the burkas and veils of servitude. They will then be enabled to expand their role in serving society in a balanced and consolidated way.” (1)

Main essence: link with Him + 4 more

Baba
Main essence: link with Him

Namaskar,

On the path of Ananda Marga sadhana, bhaktas think of Parama Purusa Baba in a personal way. In dhyana, in dreams, and even in a wakeful state, a sadhaka has a completely intimate and personal link with Baba. And Baba responds and goads us to come still closer. So the inner link with Him is that of the Personal God where one relates to Him as a Father, Friend, or even more close.

A bhakta thinks of Parama Purusa as a Personal Entity, but jinaniis think of Parama Purusa as being like air, electricity, or waves of invisible energy etc, not a personal Entity whom one can talk to etc. Bhaktas communicate directly with Him as Dearmost Parama Purusa in a very personal and intimate way. Seeing, hearing, and touching Him they express their feelings and seek His grace. It is a very personal affair wherein their heart becomes completely satiated and their longing quenched. In contrast, jinaniis always remain dry.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Just like how mother remembers the child

Think of it this way. If a mother's child is sick then with her deep love that mother will always remember and see her child's face in her mind wherever she goes. Same is the case with bhaktas - they always ideate on Him in a personal way. Bhaktas keep Parama Purusa Baba's divine form in their mind's eye. In this way, they pass their days and nights. So there is no question of any theoretical, jinanii, or impersonal approach. Ours is an intimate link with a Personal God.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Parama Puruśa is Táraka Brahma; He is your iśt́a, your personal God. This is not a theoretical concept. The human mind can be delighted with some philosophical ideas, but the heart is not satisfied thus...iśt́a means the personal God with whom all unit beings can establish a relation of love and affection, to whom they can reveal their pains and pleasures, and surrender themselves and take the safest shelter in Him. That Parama Puruśa, that personal God is not the God of philosophy. Human beings cannot establish a very close relationship with something theoretical. If one closely follows Bhágavata dharma, the final result will be the realization of the Supreme, becoming one with one’s iśt́a." (1)

Joy from personal God

Not only is Parama Purusa Baba with us, but He is with us in the most personal manner. In Ananda Marga, every bhakta thinks of Him, visualises Him in dhyana, and embraces Him as their Personal Entity - their Personal God.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Human beings want a personal God whom they will accept as their object of adoration, who will hold out sublime hopes...“Do not fear, do not be perturbed, Parama Puruśa is with you.” To become involved in useless controversies regarding the Supreme Entity is meaningless. What is really important is to meditate on the personal God and move towards Him. And this personal God is the Singular Entity, the Táraka Brahma...Táraka Brahma is not only the liberator, the object of adoration, but also the loving Father. He is the eternal companion of unit beings in their joys and sorrows – not a God in the distant sky but an understanding Lord in the house where they dwell." (2)

Jinaniis have impersonal relationship with Parama Purusa

In Ananda Marga, there are three accepted paths: jinana, karma, and bhakti. Suppose a person is an adherent of jinana marga. They cannot comprehend having Parama Purusa in a personal way, but gradually when they proceed onwards then one fine morning they will feel His closeness. It takes time, but eventually it happens, by His grace. Ultimately all have to come on the path of bhakti.

Jinana margiis follow a dry, impersonal approach. Such dry jinaniis think Parama Purusa is like air, electricity, gravity, waves of invisible energy etc, not a personal Entity. Such dry jinaniis cannot conceive of relating to Parama Purusa in personal way. Whereas bhaktas communicate with Parama Purusa Baba in a very intimate and personal manner.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Jiṋániis & karmiis have no future

Ananda Marga ideology says "For the jiṋániis, the intellectuals, the Goal is merely theoretical and impersonal. How can they expect a theoretical and impersonal entity to help them – and how can the jiṋániis even approach Him when for them His very existence is impersonal? So the jiṋániis, although they have recognized the importance of jiṋána or knowledge, have no future. They simply waste their valuable time, which is a very short span of hardly one hundred years." (3)

Conclusion

On the path of Ananda Marga, Taraka Brahma is the Guru. So this is the ideal way to cultivate a personal relation with God. As His disciples, we feel Baba is the Loving Father, the trusting Friend, or an even closer relation. By practicing Ananda Marga sadhana, in each and every work and in one’s day to day existence, it is very easy to develop a personal relationship with Him. Every sadhaka should wholeheartedly embrace this opportunity and delve deep into the realm of bhakti. Adopting an impersonal approach as jinaniis do means that sadhaka will remain dry, and thus cannot reach the final destination. To grow bhakti, a relation with Taraka Brahma is a must.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Samarpan’

Personal Entity in human form

Every sincere bhakta and sadhaka has been blessed by Parama Purusa to realise Him in their sadhana, and in each and every moment of their lives. This is the case with all. A bhakta knows that Parama Purusa resides within. That is the specialty of the Ananda Marga tantra meditation and having Taraka Brahma as the Guru.

He reminds us again and again that He resides within each and every human heart, and that He is there in dhyana - always. Every sincere bhakta experiences Parama Purusa internally in their meditation and still bhaktas communicate with Parama Purusa and receive His grace in their sadhana, and in every big and small work, as a Personal Entity in human form.

Personal link - by His grace

In our Ananda Marga, bhaktas think of Baba in a personal way. In dhyana, in dreams, and even in wakeful state, a sadhaka has a completely intimate and personal link with Baba. And Baba responds and goads us to come still closer. So the inner link with Him is that of the Personal God where one relates to Him as a Father, Friend, or even more close.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Verily, of all of the aspects of Ananda Marga tantra, in my heart I hold this aspect the most dear: How Baba has showered His grace and allowed me to have a personal link with Him. This is most special. And I know so many margiis feel this way. Taraka Brahma's form holds tremendous significance for us: Always we continue to connect with His form in our dhyana and ideation.

For Ananda Margiis, Parama Purusa Baba is a Personal God with a distinct form and we communicate with Him always in dhyana, sadhana, and every moment of our day to day lives, always.

Surgery was known long back

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "There is a very interesting example of surgery. The cousin of Krsna (the son of the sister of Lord Krsna's father) was Jarasandha, the king of Magadha, with his capital at Rajgir. At the time of the birth of Jarasandha, the child had to be cut out of the womb. People saw this child and threw it in the cremation ground. Then there came a very famous non-Aryan (raksasii) lady doctor known as Jara. She stitched the child in a proper surgical operation and saved it. Since the lady Jara joined (sandhi) the pieces of the child's body, the name of the child became Jarasandha. This proves that the people were well acquainted with surgery." (1)

Spirituality & unity

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "The unity that grows from the collective psychology in the social, psychic and economic spheres, is the first step towards a greater unity. This can lead to the formation of a nation or greater internal unity in a country. But once the problem out of which the sentiment grew is solved, the common link is broken. That is why for permanent unity a spiritual outlook is necessary. Every human being has a spiritual thirst. Knowingly or unknowingly, human beings are searching for the Supreme Entity. Yet, ignorant of the right path, they remain confused. One of life's great tragedies is that so many people do not find the object of their search. Their entire life is spent searching everywhere, but in vain. If people are shown the right way, the entire humanity will converge on the same path. As fellow travellers on the same journey, they will move towards the same supreme goal with unison, with a single rhythm. So for the unity of the entire humanity, the indispensable factor is spirituality. This supreme treasure teaches human beings that Parama Puruśa is the Supreme Father, Parama Prakrti [[the Supreme Operative Principle]] is their Supreme Mother, and the entire universe is their homeland." (1)

In the above teaching there are two central points.

Firstly, in creating temporary unity, people rally around all kinds of sentiments. And so long as their particular problem is not solved, those people remain united around their common cause. But when their problem is solved then their unity dissolves. For instance, those living in a village are fearful of wild animals remain united to ward off those dangerous animals. But when the problem is solved, and those wild animals disappear, those villagers will no longer remain united.

Second, to achieve long-term unity, true spirituality is needed. When the goal is Parama Purusa, people will not be selfish or narrow-minded. They will not fight over petty and trifling affairs. Rather, they will feel that all are the creation of Parama Purusa - and all are my kith and kin. They will not exploit others, but rather help them.

Unfortunately, when spirituality is polluted by dogmas like mahaprayan, then infighting starts. Those interest groups push to keep their dogma on top, and carry on with their exploitation for their petty gain. In that case, unity is ruined.

In our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha, to instill unity we must wipe away all dogmas. Unity cannot coexist with religious dogmas like mahaprayan. Those are the central ideas presented in the above passage.

Education & mother tongue

Prout philosophy states, “Primary school education should be in the people’s language, and primary school books... should be introduced.” (1)

Prout philosophy states, “If people’s mother tongue is suppressed, it is equivalent to strangling them. The suppression of people’s mother tongue is a sin.” (2)

Prout philosophy states, “Students may feel inconvenience if the medium of instruction is English only or if the question papers are in English only.” (3)

Baba's system is: Education in one's mother tongue, with one class being that of English as the current international language. Everything in Ananda Marga is natural; and, it is natural that people should learn in their mother tongue. In addition, people should be taught English so they can communicate with others around the world.

In Spain people learn engineering, medicine, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and all other subjects in Spanish. And in all these fields, in Spain professionals themselves work and communicate in Spanish. The same is the case with students and professionals in France, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Japan, Taiwan, China, Russia, Brazil-- all around the world, people study and work in all the scientific and technical fields in their mother tongue. The only places this is not the case are countries which were exploited by another country and had that imposing country's language thrust upon them as something superior. For that reason, students and professionals in Africa study and work using the language of their colonizer country: those who were controlled by France use French; those who were controlled by England use English etc. India falls in this category of countries around the world which were exploited by another country and had that country's language imposed upon them as something superior. That is the only reason English is used in India in engineering and other professional fields. In the rest of the countries around the world-- the great majority of countries-- all the professional fields are taught and conducted in the local language of that home country. And that is how it should be.

Engineering does not need the grammar of any particular language; that is why if one asks an engineering student or an engineer in France what language they would prefer to learn / work in-- French or English-- without having to think for a moment they will say "French". Everyone prefers their own mother tongue; that is the natural way. And that is Baba's teaching. Ananda Marga philosophy is very natural.

AMPS leaders following in footsteps of religious exploiters

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The vipras [religious leaders ] have invented and are still inventing new ways of exploiting different communities of people in different parts of the world. In some places they have lured people with the prospect of eternal heaven, injecting into them at the same time the fear of eternal hell. By claiming the doctrine of some particular vipra leader to be the word of God, they have blocked the natural expression of the human intellect and made people intellectually bankrupt. With the intention of permanently securing for themselves an exalted position in the eyes of the ordinary people, some vipra leaders have declared themselves to be the incarnation or the appointed prophet of God. Through their own so-called scriptures, they have indirectly let the common people know that no one can achieve the same proximity to God as they – so that an inferiority complex will remain forever in the minds of the masses, and due to this inferiority complex the masses will always follow their teachings, either out of fear or out of devotion. That is why even intellectual people have fallen into their trap and have been compelled to say, Vishváse miláy vastu, tarke vahu dúr ["The goal is achieved not by reason but by faith"] or Majhab men ákl ká dakhl nahii haen ["There is no room for reason in religion"]. (1)

Note: The above historical teaching given by Baba about the Middle Ages / Dark Ages is also true today in our Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha. The handlers of PP Dada give him a divine status so they can inject a complex in the minds of Wts and margiis that PP Dada is between Baba and margiis. Without PP’s blessing, marriages will not be successful. Whatever PP Dada says everyone must follow blindly. Don’t use your brain - PP has special powers and a direct connection to Baba. These are the types of dogmas the handlers of PP are injecting. Various rituals have been implemented to show that PP is almost equal to Baba. That is why PP is not raising the Jai slogan or attending dharmacakra etc. Unfortunately so-called intellectuals also became trapped: Because of their post they are blindly following this dogma. That is the sad state of affairs. Now is the time for right-thinking Wts and margiis to come forward and oppose this dogma.

Humans have pushed themselves to the brink

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Due to the foolishness of human beings many creatures and objects will not survive the period fixed for them by nature. Prior to their stipulated period of longevity they will be swallowed up by eternity. Human beings due to their utmost folly have annihilated numerous objects and thus prepared their own funeral pyre. Such folly on the part of human beings is unbearable. Human beings must be cautious from now on. They must restructure their thoughts, plans and activities in accordance with the dictates of ecology. There is no alternative.” (1)

Great Dada’s flawed book + 4 more

Baba
Great Dada’s flawed book

Namaskar,

On the spiritual path, bhakti is the most precious gem. In so many discourses and in various ways, Baba beautifully outlines the speciality of different stages of spiritual life. And it is the unique quality of bhakti that establishes one in the Supreme Rank. Unfortunately, one Dada makes a claim in his book that is in direct opposition with Sadguru Baba's divine guideline.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Parama Purusa is your closest companion

First off, it should be cent-per-cent clear that in AM every sadhaka has a close relationship with Parama Purusa. This is the way of our tantric system of meditation. So everyone should feel assured and rightly know that they have an intimate link with Him, regardless of whether it is their first day on the path or if they are a senior sadhaka. This is everyone’s birthright. However, sometimes, in particular instances mentioned below, one may need to impose the idea that they are close to Him. To achieve this, one may think that, “Parama Purusa, You are my very own, and that You are always watching and helping me.” Such a feeling of closeness should be cultivated during day to day activities and in sadhana. And by this way that inherent feeling of closeness will naturally develop and multiply. Because that is the ultimate truth of this cosmos: Parama Purusa is your closest companion.

Lowly feeling in so-called bhakta is detrimental

Here below Baba describes how those suffering from the ill effects of dogma or a psychic disease may harbour a particular complex is termed as mahimnajinana, also known as mahimnabodh [lowliness]. That means the person thinks that Parama Purusa is too great to be attained. And they may feel this way because they were born into a dogmatic religion or committed a sinful act etc. Whatever the cause, in this stage, the aspirant feels, “How can I go close to Him? I am full of imperfections and He is so high.” This feeling of lowliness is mahimnabodha, i.e. feeling inferior or lowly in front of Parama Purusa. And this feeling is completely antithetical to AM sadhana and spiritual life.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "In the scriptures the state of feeling insignificant beside the vastness of Parama Puruśa is called “mahimnabodh” [feeling inferior]...spiritual aspirants should not give this sort of inferiority complex and scope to develop in the mind." (1)

So this complex of mahimnabodh - i.e. feeling that Parama Purusa is too great and one cannot go close to Him - is associated with those suffering from some type of complex or dogma. A sadhaka should be wary not to fall prey to this devastating syndrome. A complex like mahimnabodh [lowliness] keeps one far removed from Parama Purusa. That is the unfortunate and undesirable circumstance.

Lowliness cannot co-exist with AM sadhana

Baba furthermore explains that when one comes onto the path of AM, by definition they will have a personal link with Parama Purusa. In that case, as the aspirant engages in their spiritual practices, Baba guides us that mahimnabodha (feeling inferior before Parama Purusa) will go away. And this is especially the case for those who reach that more apexed stance of parabhakti.

Baba guides us that when one is established in parabhakti, i.e. a very high spiritual state, then the bhakta does not feel any kind of inferiority complex. When one comes within the close proximity of Parama Purusa and is established in the realm of parabhakti, then all feelings of lowliness and inferiority completely disappear. This is all explained in the discourse, "The Path of Salvation" (2). And in this next discourse Baba makes the point perfectly clear.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "Those who possess parabhakti or kevala' bhakti are free from Mahimajinana [feeling inferior before Parama Purusa]." (3)

The fundamental point is that as soon as one enters the path of AM tantra they will have a direct link with Parama Purusa, and one will naturally develop greater and greater feelings of closeness with Parama Purusa. Moreover, Baba pointedly tells us in this discourse that the negative complex of mahimnajinana / mahimnabodh [lowliness before Parama Purusa ] cannot exist with parabhakti.

Dada confused about bhakti

However one respected Dada is explaining this matter quite differently from Baba. This Dada has given his own version that is not consistent with Baba's teaching. In his book "Glimpses of a Mystery" (p.87), this Dada writes:

"When Parabhakti (absolute devotion) is granted, there is a risk that the devotee can suffer from a special ideation called mahimnabodha [mahimajinana]. This causes the aspirant to feel so petty, so small, so insignificant that he or she feels unworthy of the endless, vast, incomprehensible...Brahma." - Dada B

This misleading statement published in Dada's book is the polar opposite of Baba's divine guideline. (Note: mahimnabodha [lowliness] is the same thing as mahimnajinana; both terms refer to feelings of lowliness in front of Parama Purusa.) Now see here again Sadguru Baba's divine teaching:

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Those who possess parábhakti or kevalá bhakti are free from mahimá jiṋána (the notion that God is too perfect to be attained by a mere mortal)." (4)

So on the one side, Baba guides us how parabhakti and the lowliness of mahimnabodh [mahimajinana] cannot co-exist. Where there is parabhakti, there is no mahimnabodh, i.e. feeling of lowliness. Yet this Dada has written:

"When Parabhakti (absolute devotion) is granted, there is a risk that the devotee can suffer from a special ideation called mahimnabodha [mahimajinana]. This causes the aspirant to feel so petty, so small, so insignificant that he or she feels unworthy of the endless, vast, incomprehensible...Brahma." - Dada B

Dada's published statement is diametrically opposed to Baba's eternal guideline on bhakti. Dada is wrongly telling that when sadhakas reach the highest realm of bhakti, then still they feel that they are inferior and lowly. Whereas, Baba's 100% perfect spiritual guideline is that when the stance of parabhakti (highest spiritual feeling) is reached then there is zero scope for mahimnabodha, i.e feeling lowly before Parama Purusa. So this Dada's published writing is contrary to Baba's teaching.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

By comparing Baba's pure guideline on the one side and then seeing Dada's explanation, it becomes apparent that Dada has gone off the track and that his writings have gone awry.

Top bhaktas are complex-free in front of Parama Purusa

Ananda Marga is the path of blessedness and when one achieves the highest spiritual state of parabhakti - by His grace - then there is no scope for any complex to creep into the mind. At that point the bhakta does not feel any feelings of duality or difference with Parama Purusa. The bhakta feels completely and intimately linked and attracted to Parama Purusa. There is not any shade of shyness, feelings of lowliness, or fear. The sadhaka's mind is fully complex-free, and they are just basking in His bliss and closeness. It is His grace.

So it is unfortunate that a senior avadhuta like Dada B writes that those parabhakti sadhakas suffer from mahimnabodh / mahimnajinana, i.e. feelings of lowliness in front of Parama Purusa.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

About this, Ananda Marga philosophy and spiritual cult is very clear: Those with the highest or even ordinary bhakti - do not suffer from any type of inferiority complex like mahimnajinana / mahimnabodha (feeling inferior) in front of the Lord. Such bhaktas feel intimately close to Parama Purusa - i.e. one with Him. And verily, that personal feeling of closeness with Parama Purusa begins as soon as one gets tantrika diiksa and begins the journey on the path of AM sadhana.

Namaskar,

Child analogy & bhakti

In one town, a mother served as the police chief. Naturally, all the anti-social elements and gangs were terrified of her. But when that police chief / mother arrives home then her infant child comes rushing towards her and without any fear. The child only wants to sit on her lap. The operative factor is that when one has affection for someone, then they do not feel any complex in that relationship. And when there is more love, there is not even a single iota of any complex. In the aforementioned example, the child is not awed by or fearful of the mother’s qualification or status as the police chief. Rather the child thinks of her as its loving mother. Similarly, bhaktas do not think of the vastness or greatness of the Lord, rather they think that He is my Father, very close family member etc. In that case, Parama Purusa is their very close family member, i.e. one of their own.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Feelings of lowliness or fear in front of Parama Purusa means one is bereft of bhakti. Because when there is fear one cannot love==PP==. The feeling which a small infant has for its mother, if one has that type of feeling to a higher degree for the Lord, that is the highest bhakti. At that time, the bhakta does not harbour any feelings of inferiority or lowliness before Parama Purusa; rather one feels very close to Him.

Faulty book: Readers will be misled

So the whole matter is quite serious and demands our attention because nowadays there is so much fake yoga floating around and what distinguishes the dharma of Ananda Marga from these other so-called paths is the unique approach of bhakti given by Baba.

Bhakti is a special aspect in Ananda Marga tantra. So when our own senior Dada undermines the speciality of bhakti in his book by misunderstanding this essential point of parabhakti and mahimnabodha (feeling inferior), then that will confuse readers and new people.

This type of writing in a book by an avadhuta in Ananda Marga is extremely harmful. People rely on our acaryas to be representatives of Baba and Baba's teachings. Thus when their published books go against fundamental points on bhakti, then there is big scope for readers to be led astray.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Great bhaktas: don't feel lowly in front of Parama Purusa

Ananda Marga philosophy teaches us,"Kevalá bhakti: When one is identified with the goal there remains only one entity. This is called kevalá bhakti. This category of devotion is not attainable by one’s individual effort. One can attain it by the grace of great personalities or Parama Puruśa. This is the highest stage of devotion. In this devotion the sádhaka remains oblivious of the differences and distinctions. This is called mahimna jinána. As long as the sense of differentiation will exist, the sádhaka will hesitate to be one with Brahma." (5)

By thinking "He is too great, I cannot get Him", then one increases their radii from Parama Purusa.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Tasmin ham'so bhrámyate brahmacakre. And what do the rest of the people do? They think that since Parama Puruśa is so vast and so learned, whereas they themselves are foolish and illiterate – insignificant creatures. Thus they increase their radii, their distance from the nucleus. This psychology that Parama Puruśa is too vast and great for the devotees to attain Him is called mahimnabodha, that which keeps them away from Parama Puruśa. Those who consider themselves to be wicked try to go far from Parama Puruśa, thinking that if they remove themselves from Him they will in this way be spared punishment. But the point is, if someone goes some distance from Parama Puruśa, can he or she avoid punishment in this way? No. So it is better to come close to Him and draw His sympathy and love, and thus become pure and holy." (6)

In bhakti: loving relation with God

Ananda Marga ideology states, "There cannot be any complex in the spiritual level or existential sphere. In spirituality there is no complex because every person has contact with Parama Puruśa on a purely personal level. There is no third existence between them. There are only two – the spiritualist and the Parama Pitá [Cosmic Father]. Spiritualists move towards the Cosmic Father and sit on His lap. To do this is every one’s birthright. Nobody can be debarred from doing so on the pretext of inferior caste, colour, education or poverty. Since this is every one’s birthright there cannot be any complex in the arena of spirituality. The defective social order injects an inferiority complex in the mind which often persists even when people enter the spiritual field. They feel that as the Cosmic Father is so great, how can they, being of low caste or poor or uneducated, go to Him? This is called mahimnabodha [lowliness] in the shástras [scriptures]. But one should not forget that the relation of father and child exists. Even if the father is a great scholar, the uneducated child will go to him and ask for whatever he requires because he or she has affection for the father. Just now I said that in the field of spirituality there cannot be any complex, but there are complexes due to social defects. It is our spiritual duty to rectify the social order. If we fail, there may not be good spiritualists. Even those who have the potentiality to become good spiritualists may not progress. They may be like a flower that dies before it blossoms." (7)

True bhaktas have no complex. They are like a drop of water that identifies with and merges into the vast ocean.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Sam'yoga yoga ityuktah jiivátamá Paramátmanah: when the unit consciousness and the Supreme Consciousness are fused into one, that is the real yoga. When does this take place? When the spiritual aspirants establish a relationship of sweet love with Parama Puruśa. In the absence of this sweet and loving relationship, human beings are bound to maintain a distance from Parama Puruśa out of fear. This is called mahimnabodha [lowliness] in the scriptures. “While Parama Puruśa is such a vast and exalted Entity and I am such an insignificant creature, how can I go near Him?” This sort of inferiority complex on the part of a spiritual aspirant is immensely harmful, and spiritual aspirants must be aware of this. I may be a very small creature, and indeed a drop of water is very insignificant in comparison to the vast ocean of water; but although small, that tiny drop of water is inseparably associated with the ocean itself. That drop never thinks that because it is a mere drop, how can it be associated with the great sea. In the same way, the arduous yogic practice of spiritual aspirants becomes meaningless if they fail to establish a sweet relation with Parama Puruśa." (8)

Self-propaganda

Central to this entire topic discussed in this letter is this following guideline of Baba.

Baba says, "The scriptures should always be interpreted by qualified scholars, competent philosophers, and penetrating thinkers. If one tries to interpret a profound scripture with superficial knowledge, the interpreter appears ridiculous and the audience is confused. There are some people who are neither scholars, nor philosophers, nor penetrating thinkers, but merely wander about interpreting scriptures as a means of livelihood. They utterly fail to present the proper matter in the correct perspective before the audience...[and] do more harm than good to the society. [They] interpret the scriptures just to exhibit their intellect - to procure for themselves a certificate of erudition. They remain far from the living spirit of the scriptures." (9)

Our duty

As noted above Dada Bhaskarananda is the author of "Glimpses of a Mystery". It is now incumbent upon him to issue a statement so readers can correct their books. That is what any responsible person would do.

Everyone should be careful when reading this book because when Dada Bhaskarananda has made such a fundamental error about the highest state of bhakti, there are bound to be innumerable other problems as well.

Bhakti & cowardliness cannot co-exist

If an Ananda Margii uses intoxicants that is against the ideology. In a similar way, if a sadhaka is afraid with anybody it means they are not following the ideology. If one is drinking liquor that is anti-ideological and if someone is suffering from fear that is also unideological. The reason is that srsti (this creation) is in the mind of Parama Purusa. And He loves His bhaktas more than anyone else. And the person who is scaring you is also getting their energy from Parama Purusa. But because Parama Purusa loves you more and everything is in His control, then there is no reason to be afraid. Being afraid means not trusting on Parama Purusa. For example, suppose you visited your parents after a long time. And this is the first time you are meeting your mother’s new, large ferocious dog. And mother is greeting you with her menacing dog on a leash, then by seeing the dog will you be afraid? If you are afraid it means you do not trust your mother. In the same way, being an Ananda Margii, if you are afraid with anyone it means you do not trust Parama Purusa. And not trusting Parama Purusa means one is not following the ideology. This is the gist of what Baba explains in the following teaching.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “As I have said previously, our ideology maintains that no one need be afraid of anything under any circumstances. If anyone does become afraid, it should be understood that he or she is doing something opposed to our ideology. So you should remember that no situation will ever arise in this world which will give you cause for fear. It has been said that Parama Puruśa is the fear of fear. That is, fear is as afraid of Parama Puruśa as humans are afraid of [objects of] fear. Bhiiśańaḿ bhiiśańánám – “He is the dread of all dreaded things.” A feared object is as afraid of Parama Puruśa as others are afraid of it. So, as you are the progeny of Parama Puruśa, who or what can possibly give you cause to fear?” (1)

Launder your kośas

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The paincakośas shall have to be perfected, but how is it possible? They can be consummated only through the practice of yama and niyama [and the various lessons of sadhana]. The annamaya kośa is perfected through asanas (physical postures). Yama and niyama sádhana perfect the kámamaya kośa. The manomaya Kośa is perfected through pránáyáma. Through pratyáhára the atimánasa kośa is perfected. The vijinánmaya kośa is perfected through dhárańá and the hirańmaya kośa through dhyána. Only dhyána samádhi gives access to the soul. Pious persons are those who are earnest in their efforts to perfect the paincakośa. Human existence consists of the five kośas and spiritual practice is eightfold. This spiritual practice is Dharma. That which does not provide for the explanation of the paincakośa is not Dharma, but sectism." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology says, "The loka above this where the hiran'maya kos'a (subtle causal mind) is established is what we call devarloka (satya loka). When sa'dhakas merge their petty I-feeling from the realm of the devarloka (where this I-feeling is not very much evident) -- into the bearing of the Great, they establish themselves fully in Sagun'a Brahma (Qualified Consciousness -- the collectivity of Parama'tman, Macrocosm and Microcosm). In this loka, if the whole of the I-feeling (asmita) is shattered and merged in Purus'a, the unit attains total identification with Nirgun'a Brahma (Unqualified or Objectless Consciousness). This loka is the satyaloka -- this indeed is the Brahmaloka. The one who is established in this loka is alone the Brahman'a (Bra'hmin')." (2)
