Overview: This letter contains two historical documents issued by an undivided AMPS Central in 1995. The first contains the English and Bengali versions, and the second scan is the Hindi translation. 


Scare margiis into keeping mum

The following circular (1995) was widely distributed by Centre with the aim of scaring margiis and issuing a strong warning not to talk about scriptural distortion, Bengalization in AMPS etc. Verily, this circular was an open threat intended to create fear and terror in the minds of margiis.

The enlisted so-called enquiry committee members were appointed to find out the facts about:

(A) who is making a hue and cry about the Bengalization of AM books;
(B) which margiis and Wts are opposing the Publisher’s Note in all AM books that falsely proclaimed, “Translated from the original Bengali”, even when the discourses were originally given in English;
(C) which margiis are raising their voice against the distortion of Baba's books;
(D) which margiis are alerting others that there is groupism in AMPS.

About enquiry commission

This enquiry commission held its meetings at various reportings and did some prep work to expel those Wts and margiis who opposed scriptural distortion to Baba’s books. To this end, the first expulsion was done on the 30th November 1995. Thereafter, all those margiis who were raising their voice against Bengalization were threatened, punished, or had their post or spot on the ACB snatched away etc. They were also debarred from performing social service. These aforementioned so-called punishments are wholly against the fundamentals of Caryacarya.

By this approach, Centre’s singular aim was to mercilessly crush those whistleblowers opposing the distortion of Sadguru Baba's discourses. Let us not forget that those days all the various factions and groups were working in unison under one umbrella. Those in Centre thought they were well on their way to being victorious. Ananda Vanii states, "The purport of Dharma Sádhaná is to look upon every person, every object of this universe as one integral entity. To jeopardize the unity of the human race by creating factions is not the purpose of Dharma. Those who encourage vested interests survive on the mental weaknesses of people and their dissensions, and that is why they are scared of the spread of the ideals of Dharma and exhibit their intolerance towards it in all sorts of immoral ways, such as abuse, false propaganda and lies. People must not be cowed by this, they have got to march ahead. It is to be borne in mind that hindrances are beneficial to human beings on the path of righteousness and to continue to fight against them is what is sádhaná." (1)

The rays of the crimson dawn of a new humanity on the eastern horizon have started weaving textures of colours on their eyelids and in the subtle recesses of their minds. As for those who have been dreaming of keeping humanity imprisoned by dogmas, their days are numbered; their blissful dreams are being shattered to pieces. I call upon all enlightened people and say: “Go ahead with courage. The humanity has been awaiting you. Establish it in the excellence and grandeur of glory.”" (2)

Confusion about Dada ji

People should know our Dada Vijayananda’s legacy (died July 2002). Dada Vijayananda played a central role in the ruination of Baba’s original Hindi discourses. Those blatant distortions to the Hindi discourses were all done under Dada ji’s direct command.

How Hindi discourses ruined

Here’s how Baba’s Hindi discourses were ruined. When Baba gave discourses in Hindi - such as in Patna, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Tatanagar, Varanasi, Allahabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Agra, Meerut, Delhi, Hisar, Chandigarh, Jammu, Srinagar, Jaipur, Kota, Raipur, Bhopal, Sambalpur, Nagpur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Bettiah, Hajipur, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Saharsa, Darbhanga, Purnia, Jamalpur, Anand Nagar etc. - then those Hindi discourses were not published by transcribing the cassettes. Rather, to make a Hindi book from Baba's Hindi discourses, the following steps were taken:

a) Baba's Hindi discourses were translated into Bengali. 
b) Then that Bengali translation was retranslated back into Hindi. The outcome was that this retranslated Hindi version no longer matched what Baba actually spoke. This type of distortion is called the "Bengalisation of Hindi discourses". 
c) Then that Bengalised Hindi translation was published in the form of a Hindi book. 
d) So the fact is that the Hindi books were not made directly from Baba's Hindi discourses. 
e) To make matters worse, in the Hindi book of original Hindi discourses, a false statement was written on the publisher's page – “from the original Bengali”. 
f) By this approach, most of the Hindi books of the organization have been ruined. 
g) Whenever Baba gave discourses in the Hindi language, most of the Hindi books were not made directly by transcribing the cassettes. Instead, they went through the above described process of Bangalisation. This type of gross and blatant injustice has been done to Baba's Hindi and English discourses.
h) Baba delivered the majority of His discourses in Hindi. And the ruination of those Hindi discourses had a negative, cascading effect. Because that tainted Hindi discourse was used as the basis to make the  English version of those discourses. So that means all those English discourses / books were ruined as well. 
i) Bear in mind that this process of Bangalisation was also done when Baba gave a discourse in English. So when Baba spoke in English most of the time that discourse was directly translated into Bengali, which was then branded as the master version. Then they retranslated that so-called master Bengali version back into English. And that retranslated English version is what was printed in the English books. So what Baba originally spoke in English is not what is printed in the English editions.

How some struggle in sadhana

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Most people are well acquainted with the fourth state of mind (eka'gra). In this state the human mind sometimes becomes exalted with divine sweetness; and sometimes becomes as debased as an infernal creature. Sometimes it keeps company with good people and takes a resolve never to tell lies, accept bribes, get intoxicated, or become characterless; and sometimes it thinks that honesty and virtue are sheer folly, for happiness lies in falsehood, taking bribes, stealing, promiscuity, and the like. The mind is continuously tossed between good and bad. But when the practice of sa'dhana' inspires one to accept shreya (path of benevolence) as one’s ideology, one attains the true state of eka'gra bhu'mi. In this state waves upon waves of citta emerge." 

Sha'ntaditao tulyapratyayao cittasyaeka'girata'parin'a'ma 

Ananda Marga ideology says, "Every newcomer to the path of sa'dhana' suffers from a lack of concentration of mind. After repeating the is't'a mantra a couple of times hundreds of undesirable thoughts flood the mind. The newcomer thinks, “I am unable to attain the One on whom I meditate, and instead am pestered by those objects I do not want.” The hand counts the beads, the lips mutter the name of the is't'a, but the mind roams in the filth of hell. When all the undesirable waves are removed from the mind, one blissful wave begins to flow, and the sa'dhaka attains the state of eka'gra bhu'mi." (1) 

Note: If in sadhana a person is not one-pointed (eka'gra means "one-pointed") it means they are not repeating their mantra in a proper manner. It means they are lacking sincerity and regularity of practice.

Why only individual salvation

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “To continue the flow of His divine play, it is not desirable that all entities of the vast universe should attain the Supreme stance at one time; neither is it the natural process. Thus human beings must strive to attain individual salvation. If Parama Puruśa is pleased, they will surely succeed in their efforts.” (1)

Note: Many things can be done collectively like bhajans, sadhana, meal, bath, and kiirtan etc. These can all be collective endeavours. But not everything in this universe can be done collectively. For instance, collective salvation is not possible. Because then creation will cease to exist and Parama Purusa does not want creation to end. Those who are fortunate will use their free will to do sadhana. Unit beings will get salvation on an individual, case by case basis, not collectively.

This incident is related with one margii from the US who, in the past, had been involved in gay relations. When he went for dharma samiiksa and reached before Baba, then Sadguru Baba pointed out the wrongdoing and gave him a token punishment for his wrongdoing. Immediately, the sadhaka felt a great sense of relief as he was feeling repentant for his bad dealings. So when Baba graciously blessed him with atonement and requited his sin, a huge burden was removed from his psyche, by the unfathomable grace of Baba.

AM marriage: between boy & girl only - 1

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, “Male members of the Marga can marry females outside the Marga, but it will be better to marry a female member of the Marga to a male member of the Marga, as far as possible.” (1)

First we should recall that Ananda Marga is based on bhagavad dharma. That is why it is said that Ananda Marga is a man-making mission. There are various animalistic activities promoted in the general society which are harmful for the all-around development of human beings that are not supported by AM due to its beastial nature. Those things degrade the mind.

Here is one such example of animalistic relations: LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender). In the following teachings Baba is clearly showing that Ananda Marga promotes marriages between males and females. With that principle, beastly marriages like LGBT etc have no place in Ananda Marga. Brother G from the USA stood in front of Baba. After some personal talk, Baba said, “Your mind is unnecessarily disturbed about the past. You made some mistakes of a sexual nature.”

G’s face suddenly became very red.

“Yeah...yes, Baba,” he mumbled.

“When you were younger you had some misunderstanding about the relationship between men and women.”

He stared at the floor, saying, “Yes, Baba.”

“But it was not your fault. As a little boy you were simply influenced by your environment.”

G looked up at Baba. He sighed deeply, smiled slightly and said, “Thank you, Baba.”

“No need of thanks,” Baba said. “I merely convey to you the unadulterated facts. You were unaware. Unaware.”

G approached me after the session, wanting to get something off his chest.

“I never told anyone, Dada,” he said, “but since you were present today, I want to tell you that...that before joining Ananda Marga, I had...homosexual relations.”

He watched for my reaction. Seeing none, he continued, “Even though I’ve been doing meditation for a number of years, it’s always bothered me; I’ve always felt guilty. But now Baba’s freed my mind. When He said it wasn’t my fault, something let go inside of me. I feel so light now; I wouldn’t be surprised if I started to fly!”

About same-sex relations

In the above story, a male had sex with another male – that is the sinful dealing that Baba is pointing out and this same sin applies to females who have sex with another female. So this is a universal teaching that applies to all gays, lesbians, homosexuals etc.

Having attraction for the same-sex is not good. This attraction must not be encouraged, neither physically nor mentally. Rather it should be diverted toward spiritual attainment; that desire should be goaded towards Parama Purusa. An ideal widower, or divorcee, or single margii, and those who have taken the vow of celibacy, if any have attraction for the opposite sex, then internally they goad their mind toward Parama Purusa. Remember physically indulging in same-sex relations and mentally harboring this desire are both against the Ananda Marga way of life and detrimental to one’s spiritual growth.

Some people think accepting gay relations is equated with being open-minded. In that case, in the general society then all kinds of things should be accepted in the name of open-mindedness like prostitution, animal sex, i.e. humans having intercourse with animals like dogs, cats, horses, pigs, goats, donkeys, camels, bulls, sheep, and birds.

In Ananda Marga, we love everyone – all humans irrespective of their gender or sexual preference, or any other quality. We love everyone: Diseased persons, healthy persons, serial killers, and sex addicts etc.


Conclusion

By reading the above story, anyone can understand that Ananda Marga is the path of bliss and not the path of animal satisfaction. So animalistic activities like LGBT are condemned in Ananda Marga. Those marching on the path of life divine have to be disciplined. Even in the first step of their journey they have to theoretically understand that sex is not the be-all and end-all of life.

First medicines discovered by human beings

   Ananda Marga philosophy says, "Water: Odorless, tepid water, especially if it is sun-warmed, is an excellent medicine for the physical body. It has great healing qualities. Since ancient times, knowingly or unknowingly, human beings and different animals have also accepted water as one of their medicines. It is also said in the Vedas: ápashca vishvabheśajii [and water is a universal medicine]."
   "However the quest for medicines on the part of human beings and animals has not been limited to fasting, sunlight, water, air and earth. Initially the medicines that human beings discovered were different trees and plants and the external use of their bark and roots. The human beings of those times used to chew them and smear or rub the diseased part with them. These ointments were the first medicines discovered by human beings. When these ointments did not work externally, it became necessary to ingest them. Humans used to take them as medicine by chewing or swallowing them. This was the second step in the use of medicines in human history."

Re: Ploy of Sarvatmananda

Namaskar,

This quote was printed in the Crimson Dawn newsletter on the basis of hearsay those days during Emergency before Baba's coming out of jail. People did not object because what people were printing was not authenticated; and it was during the dark days so whatever people were doing was fine. Just like if child does something then do not nit pick what the child does. In 1978 Baba came out and the era changed and this "merge in mission" quote died out.

After that Sarvatmananda gave it its rebirth in 1990 to fulfill his devious agenda. Some think that before 90 there was no dogma. But they are not properly informed that is why they think in that way. But those working in the organisation before 1990 know that so many injustices were going on. And Baba did not have time to personally address them all and punish those people. This bogus "merge in mission" quote was one such case.

As Ananda Margiis, it is the duty of every person to care for and protect every child / babe. Yet nowadays, crimes against children is a pervasive issue that is grossly underreported. Here, we are talking about sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. As parents, caregivers, and sadhakas, we should be keenly aware about these serious offenses and understand how to recognise them. Remember, the victims in these cases are children, and often they are unable to express their pain or understand how and when they are being abused. Verily, it is our duty to keep a vigilant eye and save those kids from any abuse or torture. We must watch for their well-being.

To this end, appended below, is one professional, proactive article for how to communicate with children about this ever-important topic of abusive behaviour. This type of education is a key preemptive measure to safeguard our children.

First here are Baba’s teachings about our social responsibility to watch over all children, followed by the aforementioned article.

Helpless children convey their pain through tears
 
Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Society must ensure that proper care is taken of human babies who are totally dependent on the care and protection of their parents for their existence. These helpless children can only convey their pain and discomfort through tears. To raise children from infancy to maturity is an immensely important task. I have said before that the members of society must advance in unison. The newborn babe is another traveller on the path. To adopt a child as our companion, as one included in the society, is called the “Játakarma” of the child." (1)

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Those, who will be present on the occasion of the child’s Játakarma, must also indirectly have to bear the responsibility of bringing up the child. In other words it will not do to sit inactive saying that the direct responsibility in this connection is on its parents." (2)

Oath to protect all children

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "Every person must realize the duty which he owes direct to the babe in his family, and on which depends the developments of the child in all spheres. This duty may be demanded from every person by every child of the world. Hence, thinking in favour of family babes only will not suffice. Even if it were not possible for particular persons to discharge properly the duties towards each and every child of the world owing to crude worldly reasons, they must always be conscious of their duties towards children within their acquaintance. The oath taken on the occasion of Játakarma will reawaken the sense of that duty again and again. Any grown-up person or any father shall not forget his duty when he has once looked at the helpless face of the child. It does not end here.” (3)

Part of Brahma sadhana to serve children

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In pursuance of the mantra of Játakarma in Ánanda Márga, a child has not simply been regarded as a child only but also a manifestation of Brahma in the child. So, serving the child, shall be a part of Sádhaná (Brahma-Sádhaná) to him. The credit for his services to the child will not create pride in him. The same feeling will recur in mind when the child is bathed with water consecrated with the mantra. The persons taking part in the function will think anew that the child is once again being bathed with their blessings and that they must take fatherly responsibility of the child." (4)

How Can I Protect My Child From Sexual Assault?

Sexual abuse can happen to children of any race, socioeconomic group, religion or culture. There is no foolproof way to protect children from sexual abuse, but there are steps you can take to reduce this risk. If something happens to your child, remember that the perpetrator is to blame—not you and especially not the child. Below you’ll find some precautions you can take to help protect the children in your life.

If your child is in immediate danger, don’t hesitate to call the local police hotline or authorities. If you aren’t sure of the situation but you suspect the child is being harmed, you can take steps to gauge the situation and put an end to the abuse.


Be involved in the child’s life

Being actively involved in a child’s life can make warning signs of child sexual abuse more obvious and help the child feel more comfortable coming to you if something isn’t right. If you see or hear something that causes concern, you can take action to protect your child.

• Show interest in their day-to-day lives. Ask them what they did during the day and who they did it with. Who did they sit with at lunchtime? What games did they play after school?

• Get to know the people in your child’s life. Know who your child is spending time with, including other children and adults. Ask your child about the kids they go to school with, the parents of their friends, and other people they may encounter, such as teammates or coaches. Talk about these people openly and ask questions so that your child can feel comfortable doing the same.

• Choose caregivers carefully. Whether it’s a babysitter, a new school, or an afterschool activity, be diligent about screening caregivers for your child.

• Talk about the media. Incidents of sexual violence are frequently covered by the news and portrayed in television shows. Ask your child questions about this coverage to start a conversation. Questions like, “Have you ever heard of this happening before?” or “What would you do if you were in this situation?” can signal to your child that these are important issues that they can talk about with you. • Know the warning signs. Become familiar with the warning signs of child sexual abuse, and notice any changes with your child, no matter how small. Whether it’s happening to your child or a child you know, you have the potential to make a big difference in that person’s life by stepping in. (Courtesy of RAINN)

Encourage children to speak up

When someone knows that their voice will be heard and taken seriously, it gives them the courage to speak up when something isn’t right. You can start having these conversations with your children as soon as they begin using words to talk about feelings or emotions. Don’t worry if you haven't started conversations around these topics with your child—it is never too late.

• Teach your child about boundaries. Let your child know that no one has the right to touch them or make them feel uncomfortable — this includes hugs from grandparents or even tickling from mom or dad. It is important to let your child know that their body is their own. Just as importantly, remind your child that they do not have the right to touch someone else if that person does not want to be touched.

• Teach your child how to talk about their bodies. From an early age, teach your child the names of their body parts. [One can use discreet terminology for certain body parts and organs like “private parts”, “backside”, “front”, “top”, “bottom” etc. Of course for arm, foot, hand and mouth one may use the exact term. For teens one may use terms like “reproductive organs” and “mammary glands”]. Teaching a child these words gives them the ability to come to you when something is wrong. • Be available. Set time aside to spend with your child where they have your undivided attention. Let your child know that they can come to you if they have questions or if someone is talking to them in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable. If they do come to you with questions or concerns, follow through on your word and make the time to talk.

• Let them know they won’t get in trouble. Many perpetrators use secret-keeping or threats as a way of keeping children quiet about abuse. Remind your child frequently that they will not get in trouble for talking to you, no matter what they need to say. When they do come to you, follow through on this promise and avoid punishing them for speaking up.

• Give them the chance to raise new topics. Sometimes asking direct questions like, “Did you have fun?” and “Was it a good time?” won’t give you the answers you need. Give your child a chance to bring up their own concerns or ideas by asking open-ended questions like “Is there anything else you wanted to talk about?” (Courtesy of RAINN)

How the west misunderstood psychology

Ananda Marga philosophy says, "According to general belief, psychology is a part of general science, and should therefore not be included as a part of philosophy. Thus psychology has been accepted as a branch of science in the West. But in A'nanda Ma'rga, psychology has been included as a part of philosophy. Moreover, according to A'nanda Ma'rga the scope of psychology is wider than what is usually accepted by psychologists." (1)

Note: Often we find in the west that psychology is taken as an intellectually dry subject, or some utopian idea, or something that does not have a link with our higher Self. Universities commonly categorise psychology as one of the social sciences. This started primarily because the western approach to psychology is dry - i.e. aspiritual. It does not have any link with the Supreme Entity. In true sense, the western approach towards psychology lacks sweetness and spiritual feeling. Perhaps that explains why we find that many western psychologists lead imbalanced lives.

In contrast, Baba's teachings in His book "Yoga Psychology" are completely different. This subject is not a purely intellectual study, but a practical approach that is deeply connected with spiritual life. So it is our duty to remove the confusion in the minds of non-margiis about the subject of "psychology" and give it its rightful place.

Those who don’t chew their food

Ananda Marga Yogic Treatments states, "In order to digest starches and carbohydrates, the saliva of the mouth must help at the preliminary stage. Chewing food brings an adequate quantity of saliva into the mouth. No sooner does the food mixed with saliva enter the stomach than the liver and the pancreas are enabled to start secreting their bile and digestive fluids. So unless food is chewed well, the liver can never function properly." (1)

Note: In the fast-paced life of this 21st century, people no longer give themselves proper time to attend to their basic life duties, such as eating food. Instead people just rush off from one appointment to another and "grab a bite to eat" along the way. In their hectic pace, instead of chewing their food properly they just take a bite or two and swallow it. Or they nearly inhale their meal, without chewing it at all. As Baba warns us, this way of "eating" is terribly hazardous to the health and invites many diseases.
