Baba places great importance on the study of history as it enables both individuals and communities to learn from past mistakes and thereby progress. Failing that, without the study of history, people commit the same old blunders over and over again. In which case, they remain shackled by the crimes of the past and are unable to advance. So the review of history holds a unique place for the progress of any society.
As Ananda Margiis, we must know the history of Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha (AMPS) and our stand on key events. Please read this below letter as an historical account which was first posted nearly five years ago on this network.

Hunters and fisherman lure their prey by putting out some type of bait. That way they are able to make their catch.
Same is the case with the organisers of mahaprayan / annual death day ceremony in those units in Suva. They use kiirtan as a bait to get margiis to attend. Failing that, margiiis would never participate in a death day ceremony as they know it is anti-devotional etc. So the organisers use kiirtan to make their catch and lure margiis in.
Dogma is dying
Side by side, we see practical evidence how the dogma of mahaprayan / shraddjainjali / annual death day / tomb worship is dying. The mahaprayan term has become stained - people see it as a poison.
See the below invitation where at first they delete the mahaprayan term and use samkalpa divas instead and then they put mahaprayan in parentheses.
Of course changing the name of mahaprayan to samkalpa divas is moot - even though the name is changed still it is a dogma.
Here the point is simply that the term mahaprayan has lost its charm in Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha. Most understand that it is a dogmatic death day ceremony, and the rest view it as something that is controversial and should be avoided. That is why they have resorted to changing the name (see below image) - and soon they will understand that changing the name to samkalpa divas is also bogus.

Then in this next image, they put “Samkalpa Divas” on the 3rd and 4th lines and put “Mahaprayan” in parentheses () - line 4.
While many around the world are understanding that mahaprayan is just one dogma, in some places that dogma is growing. Sadly, there are a few units in Suva sector that are doing nightly kiirtan during the week of mahaprayan / shraddhainjali / annual death day / tomb worship.
Those organisers know that margiis will not attend a death day function per se, so they attempt to lure followers with kiirtan.

My response is to the issue of mahaprayan to which I am opposed for reasons that I hope to expand on. This is an issue of mature debate and has to be treated as such. Play the game and not the player.
Clearly a very serious blunder has been made when this man-made mahaprayan was pasted into Caryacarya and since that time innumerable blunders have been committed, the most evident one being the bifurcation of AMPS. It is my deduction that when mahaprayan (death of Baba) was declared it gave power mongers an opportunity to exploit and fulfill what they what they most desired -viz. power.
You will know that Baba took complete control of His organisation. With the declaration of MPD , these power mongers took charge -with the understanding that Baba is dead and gone. The correct approach should be "Baba is still in charge and we have to endeavour to understand and try to follow his mandate to the letter. Instead we tampered with His book- a shortsighted understanding that Baba's book is incomplete.
And to add insult to injury a memorial building was initiated. This further affirmed that Baba is only a memory. Year in and year out we are reminded that He is only a memory through the observation of MPD. The long term effect of this negative attitude will be catastrophic. I will explain later. I am certain that you will agree that this is not a proper approach to Guru/ disciple ralationship, as you well know, crucial to our Tantric Sadhana. Hence we declare MPD Dogmatic.The long term effect of this defective attitude will be catastrophic. I will explain.
Undoubtly Mahasambuti Baba took birth and also discarded his mortal frame. Nonetheless an Ananda marga Sadhaka has to maintain that my Baba (the subject of our devotional sentiment) is with me at all times. He is watching and knowing even what I am thinking. Mahaprayan speaks otherwise. Dyana mulam Guru Murtii- Guru Sakash, Guru Pooja, Guru Dhyane- all confirm that Baba is alive. Shiva and Krsna are very much alive today because devotees have never declared their mahaprayan.
SOLEMN IS NOT LOOKING AT BRIGHT SIDE
Baba advised "look at the bright side.........." Just look a the word "solemn". It is NOT looking at the bright side. A sadhaka must be overjoyed that he has attained Him and not lost Him. (It is Baba who gives Diksha through the medium of a WT. The MPD adherent WT has to tell his new initiate that the Guru is dead but never mind....... . Just imagine in 50-100 YEARS what the understanding of MPD will be. Already some margiis are calling it a Samsamn Ghat, the holiest of places. Ponder deeply before responding.
The prophet of Islam used the name of god (Allah) to pursue his own mean agenda. All evil acts are not his but that of Allah; to make it credible and acceptable. Clearly this Islamic dogma has been in existence for 1400 years and the global implications are more evident today. MPD is a dogma hiding under the guise of Kirtan. Hindu priests also used the name of god to exploit the masses and are still doing so today. Just by mentioning Ram, Shiva, or Krsna, they overwhelmed the piety of people and then rob them.
Enough has been written on the topic of MPD. It has been rationally opposed. There is no evidence anywhere in Baba's voluminous writings to support it. It is no wonder that most units in India and abroad ignore MPD.
Tiljala has vigorously marketed MPD - way above DMS, Ananda Purnima and all other programmes given by Baba himself. WHY? Does this "solemn occasion" warrant more attention? WHY ? One can deduce that a man-made program is more important to Tiljala than any God given one. There must be an agenda.
THE NEW SELLING POINT OF MPD
Combine MPD with a UNITY meeting - a soft point of every margii. Clever! Very clever! First six days of Kirtan and now UNITY meeting. It shows to what lengths Tiljala will go to increase the support for MPD- including deception. SMELL THE COFFEE.
