Note: This letter has been written according to the standard of Ananda Marga philosophy so those who do not understand the teachings of Ananda Marga philosophy will not be able to understand this letter. In that case, please avoid it. This can be fully understood only by those who know the fundamentals of Ananda Marga ideology.
Namaskar,
Baba, our Sadguru, invested a lot of time writing Prabhat Samgiita. His compositions were highly needed. Prior, the devotional songs were not up to our Ananda Marga standard. So, day and night, Baba worked hard to compose the music, write the lyrics, have it recorded, and propagate this to margiis so His disciples could grow spiritually.
All are aware about this history - everyone knows this - how blessed we are to have the treasure of Prabhat Samgiita for our spiritual growth and development.
Unfortunately some are not up to the mark.
Guru's desire is to propagate Ananda Marga philosophy and Prabhat Samgiita etc, and He has designated this magazine - i.e. Prajina Bharatii - as one of the highest vehicles for propagating the ideals of Ananda Marga. But look what happened: These in-charge Dadas of Prajina Bharartii are doing the exact opposite.
Please see below...
Prajina Bharatii misguides sadhakas -
listen to old movie songs for spiritual growth
In the Editorial for Prajina Bharatii #250, the editor recommends listening to “melodious songs of old movies” as a key component for one’s spiritual development. What can be said about this other than it is absolutely unthinkable that the editor - an avadhuta and purodha board member - neglected to mention the purely devotional compositions of Prabhat Samgiita and instead advised listening to pseudo-culture songs from the movies, i.e. Bollywood / Hollywood.
Remember this magazine is designated as the highest, most spiritually uplifting magazine in all of Ananda Marga as it is under the governance of the purodha board. Only those who are tattvikas and above may make contributions to this esteemed periodical. General margiis are not allowed to write for this magazine. So the expectation is that truly spiritually enlightening words shall grace the pages of this magazine. It is designed to be of the highest calibre. But instead the in-charges and editors are filling the magazine with baseless suggestions like listening to “songs of old movies.” It is both shocking and disgraceful.
Sadly, at present, this honourable magazine is under the grip unqualified Wts. Otherwise how to account for the suggestion to use pseudo-culture - i.e. old movie songs - as a means for spiritual growth and development. What to speak of being an acarya, avadhuta, or purodha of Ananda Marga, such a person is acting more like a salesman or broker of the movie industry in Bollywood or Hollywood. It is sad and disappointing.
Sadguru Baba has blessed us with the most sublime songs of spiritual thought and devotional expression, yet these composition are not given an ounce of thought by the editors and instead - with their lowly state of mind - they recommend listening to “songs of old movies.” That is what they advise to enhancing one's spiritual growth and development.
One should not hear those things
that have bad effect on the mind
Here we should bear in mind Guru’s warning:
"“Sádhu Sotena saḿvaro”. Whatever will have bad effect on your mind, O good man, you must not hear it...“Savvatha Saḿvaro Bhikśu.” If you want emancipation, if you want liberation from worldly fetters, you must have all-round restraint." (1)
In His above directive, Sadguru Baba clearly warns us not to listen to those sounds that will degrade the mind.
Thus when "songs of old movies" are full of sensual innuendos and lustful meaning, then as sadhakas we must strictly avoid these movie songs. Yet the editors of Prajina Bharatii are advocating that we listen to such pseudo-culture movie songs. So their stance is 100% diametrically opposite to Guru's teaching.
Sadguru Baba condemns the
perverted culture of the movie industry
In the below quote from His 1959 discourse, Sadguru Baba is lambasting the movie industry for its perverted approach. The industry only aims to kindle animalistic propensities. And now in 2015, the movie industry has become much, much worse. It is completely debased.
But those depraved songs from the old movies in the 1950's etc were also very bad, that is why in that era Baba spoke out against them:
Ananda Marga social philosophy states, “Seduced by the bestial instincts hidden in the secret recesses of their minds, people surrender to base propensities. But improvements in education and the social environment can help to bring this beast under control and make it obey their commands. To achieve this the first thing people have to do is to wage war against their animal propensities, which is no easy task. So cunning exploiters, by encouraging animality, are able to bring people under their sway.”
“The cinema industry suffers from this malady. This industry is controlled by a handful of business persons who make films according to popular taste and demand. While ordinary people naturally run after those films which in their ideas, language or visual images cater to their base propensities, such ideas, language or images instantly distort the ideals of the idealist beyond recognition. It is quite in character for purely commercial film producers to exploit these human weaknesses to their own advantage, and this is exactly what is happening. Generally youngsters outnumber older people at movies marked “A” (“For Adults Only”). Sometimes the words “For Adults Only” are so alluringly displayed that young people feel even more attracted.” (2)
Thus, when Sadguru Baba has made such a strong stand against the commercial film industry in those days, it is shocking that our own purodhas, those who are supposed to be of an exalted state of mind, are giving a lowly suggestion that is opposite to Guru's position.
What could account for such an indiscretion by our top most acaryas?
The problem is that those Dadas became the editors of the esteemed Prajina Bharatii magazine not because of their lofty state of mind, but because of their "other abilities." By becoming a stooge of Rudrananda they got the post. They were undeserving candidates yet now they run Prajina Bharatii.
And now if anyone complains about the dealing of these editors then Rudrananda and his inner cabinet will not care. Rather they will victimise those who do not fully support those magazine editors.
All in all it is shameful - if you think deeply - then anger and frustration comes how these purodhas are supposedly so dedicated, yet look at the mess they are making by contravening Guru's guideline.
That is why the only way left is for margiis and readers to complain and stop purchasing that magazine. If many take a strong stand then those editors will be forced to be more change their approach. So your voice is a meaningful one - don't by the magazine. Instead save your money and save yourself from negative microvita.
Namaskar,
in Him,
Jagannath
Note 1: Prajina Bharatii No. 250 Editorial
Here below is what the Prajina Bharatii editors wrote in their Editorial for magazine #250:
"melodious songs of old movies, natural sounds (chirping of birds, moving breeze, waterfall, river water flowing, rainfall, shaking of tree leaves etsc). These sounds give inner joy and elevation to mind and calm down a distractive and tense mind."
If you would like a copy of their entire Editorial let us know.
Note 2: Some examples of old movie songs
for those who do not know such songs
Below are samples of the types of songs that these Prajina Bharati magazine editors recommen in their Editorial:
(A) old movie song Hindi
(B) traditional Indian devotional song
(C) famous American movie song from the 1960’s
All these things PB editors are encouraging margiis to bring into their routine to heighten spiritual life and become one with Parama Purusa and get enlightenment.
It seems such editors forgot what they learned about spirituality. Even a child on the path knows that such songs will not help in any way. For your own confirmation please see these below songs:

(B) Example of famous Indian devotional song
for those who do not know
Below is an extremely popular and famous devotional song of India that PB editors are talking about in their editorial when they refer to “devotional songs.” So they are not only talking about old movie songs but also Indian devotional songs. If they had meant Prabhat Samgiita they would have written as such instead they talk about devotional songs like this one below.
Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganesh Deva
Mata jaki Parvati, pita Mahadeva.
Glory to You, O Lord Ganesha!
Born of Parvati, daughter of the Himalayas, and the great Shiva.
Ek dant dayavant, char bhuja dhari
Mathe par tilak sohe, muse ki savari
Pan chadhe, phul chadhe, aur chadhe meva
Ladduan ka bhog lage, sant kare seva.
O Lord of compassion, You bear a single tusk, four arms,
A vermilion mark of on your forehead, and ride on a mouse.
People offer you betel leaves, blossoms, fruits
And sweets, while saints and seers worship You.
Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganesh Deva,
Mata jaki Parvati, pita Mahadeva...
Glory to You, O Lord Ganesha!
Born of Parvati, daughter of the Himalayas, and the great Shiva.
Andhan ko ankh det, kodhin ko kaya
Banjhan ko putra det, nirdhan ko maya
Surya shaam sharan aye, safal kije seva.
You bestow vision on the blind, chastened body on the leprous,
Children to the sterile, and wealth on the destitute.
We pray to Thee day and night, please bestow success upon us.
Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganesh, Jai Ganesh Deva,
Mata jaki Parvati, Pita Mahadeva...
Glory to You, O Lord Ganesha!
Born of Parvati, daughter of the Himalayas, and the great Shiva.
Ganpati Bappa Morya.!!!

Conclusion
This letter discussed that (a) for spiritual growth the PB editors did not mention Prabhat Samgiita, and (b) those PB editors advise that old movie songs and Indian devotional songs will help in spiritual attainment.

What signifies the real progress of universal humanity
"Human history today has reached such a transitional phase that
universal humanity, forgetting all spatial, temporal and personal
differences, shall have to move, hand in hand, shoulder to
shoulder towards the new dawn with rapid steps. Humanity must
respond to this call. With the reddish glow of the dawn, the
collective body, mind and soul will be radiant with joy. And that
alone will be the real progress of universal humanity, the firm
establishment of unified humanism." (1)What signifies the real progress of universal humanity
