Half-avadhuta + 2 more

Baba

Half-avadhuta

Namaskar,

This letter examines the ways of certain religious exploiters in AMPS. The following avadhutas have been well-known, i.e. notorious, for keeping tight and intimate relations with their laokik family. As we know, for a senior purodha and avadhuta, this runs directly contrary to Baba's stated conduct rules for wholetime workers.

Semi-monk #1

WT conduct rules state, "No relationship should exist with worldly family." (1)

Dada Svarupananda has had a long tenure in AMPS. Now, he is in his later years and trying to keep his health. Many know he has been posted in Ananda Nagar for years and years. Side by side, Svarupananda openly maintained close ties to his laokik family members, and he did not try to keep this hidden. Svarupananda has blatantly disregarded Guru’s teaching as he has kept up with all the news of his extended worldly family including uncles, newly weds, cousins, in-laws etc. Throughout his wholetimer career he has set aside ample time and scope to be with his laokik family. Obviously, this is an outright contravention of Guru’s teachings and guidelines for avadhutas. It is shameful how Svarupananda openly flaunts such breaches of this avadhuta code.

Myth

Some say that if someone has committed errors, and that person has already died, then their actions should not be analysed and reviewed. About this, we can find the correct answer in Sadguru Baba’s approach and teachings. And that is what is discussed below. The fundamental issue at stake is this: What is history and what gets included in the historical record.

Myth ==> After death, one must not talk about a person’s character and dealing: This myth is a bogus idea. The proof is that Baba has fully reviewed the dealings and exposed the misdeeds of those during the Mahabharata era. They died long ago but that did not keep Baba from telling their tales etc. Rather, Baba recounted all that they did. So the history must be given of those who have destroyed Guru’s discourses, imposed groupism, infused dogma, curtailed margii rights, and broken our AMPS into pieces. Similarly, the account should be given of those avadhutas who did not follow avadhuta rules etc. It is not that when such persons die then these events can no longer be told, written about, or analysed. That history should be told so the present and future generations can learn from those experiences.

So if someone died then their wrongdoings should also be reviewed and studied. Their mistakes and wrongful actions are a key part of human history and will help others do better and make wiser decisions in the future. In that light, this next case is presented.

Semi-monk #2

Unfortunately, Dada Nirmoha'nanda consistently violated Guru's directive and then gloated about it to others. It is not that Dadaji called his laokik brother twice a year, although that too is a contravention of the rules. Rather, Dadaji went against the code in high fashion. He maintained close links with his entire extended laokik family, including all cousins, in-laws, newborns, and so on - everyone.

Not only that, Dadaji even flew to Canada with the explicit purpose of visiting his laokik granddaughter and family members who were living overseas. Dadaji was so pleased about this that he told everyone about it. It is for this reason that Dada Nirmohananda was a semi-avadhuta - a fake monk - i.e. trishanku. And Dada Svarupananda is also just a half-Wt, fake monk, and trishanku.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Here below are some of Baba's key guidelines on who is a true acarya / wholetime worker, and / or to be given positions of leadership in society:

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Those who have the responsibility to show the path to others should be of superlative character with the most refined conduct. They and their followers must move constantly towards all-round development and shreya [ultimate spiritual attainment]. Persons who teach such well-regulated behaviour to others by their own conduct are called ácáryas." (2)

Namaskar,
In Him,
Gopal

On multiple occasions, Baba warned Dada Nirmoha'nanda not to indulge in palmistry and other such dogmatic, fortune-telling enterprises. But time and again Dada N returned to his poor, faulty, and filthy habit. He was enamoured by it. Otherwise, why would Dadaji blatantly disobey Guru's directive and plunge himself into such activities. And, as we now see, Dada Nirmoha'nanda's exploits into palmistry and magic stones (sphatik or white stone etc) were not the only arena in which He has directly contravened Guru's direct order. He also spent huge time with his entire laokik relations.

~ In-depth study ~

Who is a true wt, acarya, avadhuta / avadhutika, purodha etc

Here below are some of Baba's key guidelines on who is a true acarya / wholetime worker, and / or to be given positions of leadership in society:

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Only those established in Yama and Niyama may be given any position to work in society." (3)

Ananda Marga ideology states, "Acárańát pát́hayati yah sah ácáryah – “One who teaches through one’s conduct is an ácárya.” If you cannot learn anything from the conduct and behaviour of a certain person, why should you accept that person as an ácárya/á?" (4)

Ananda Marga ideology guides, "Cakśuńá Sam'varo Sádhu” O spiritual aspirant! O Bhikśu! O monk! O devotee! You should have proper control over your eyes; whatever will have bad effect on your mind, you must not see it. “Sádhu Sotena Sam'varo”. Whatever will have bad effect on your mind, O good man, you must not hear it. “Ghánena Sam'varo Sádhu.” You should have control over your nose, “Sádhu Jibháya Sam'varo.” You should have control over your taste. “Káyena Sam'varo Sádhu.” You should have control over your body. “Sádhu Vácáya Sam'varo.” You should have control over your language also; and “Savvatha Sam'varo Bhikśu.” If you want emancipation, if you want liberation from worldly fetters, you must have all-round restraint." (5)

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "Actions and not logic establish one’s superiority." (6)

Ananda Marga philosophy tells us, "The person will welcome that death rather than compromise with sin and vice. Therefore keep in mind that those who are genuine devotees, sádhakas of high order, loved by Parama Puruśa and closely bound to Parama Puruśa in love and affection, will never compromise with sin and vice. They will cling to their ideal totally, throughout their lives." (7)

Baba story: revolution

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “At first, the demon was quite unwilling to hold any discussion with them. At last, seeing them many in number, he said with reluctance, “Well, I have no objection to talk with some of your representatives.” In the course of discussion, the demon pretended that he did not deny that the demands of the humans were legitimate but where is the money? “In order to rebuild the state,” he said, “expenditure has to be curtailed; exports have to be increased and imports decreased, and it is necessary to accelerate the production of agricultural and industrial goods. If people today are busy with trifling demands, how then is it possible to rebuild the Very Odd Kingdom? So people should raise only one slogan today ‘Labour – more labour – and still more labour!’ Demands of housing, education, medical treatment – we have heard enough of your demands! Now I advise you, forget your demands for the right to higher wages, education, medical treatment, and better accommodation, for the time being – and go and labour hard!””

“The representatives of the human beings said “How wonderful! But then the question is, if you don’t accept our right to live how can we labour hard?””

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “The discussion was interrupted. The demon and his associates now became active to create divisions among the youth. They said to the religious leaders, pundits, priests and mullas (religious leaders), “Do you see what is happening? Religion is becoming polluted, society is becoming polluted, everything is spoiled. After some time perhaps these loutish youth will say, ‘These pundits, priests and mullas, they are the parasites of the society; They suck the lifeblood of humanity by taking advantage of the weakness of their minds!’ So a big group of priests, pundits and mullas joined the demons. They declared, ‘What people are saying now is sheer injustice. People starve as a consequence of their own sins committed in their previous lives. So to fight for the establishment of their rights is to try to overmaster God!’”

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “But there were some good people even among the priests and mullas and pundits, of course. They declared, “What the prince’s group, the human beings, are saying, is right. To support them is right”. Ministers and vice-ministers were giving them high posts in government service. Some were trapped in this way, too, but most of the people said, “We are going to be deceived by such temptation no longer – we have long been cheated for our foolishness, but no more!!””

“The Strange Demon noticed that each of his arrows was missing its target. Then he captured some good orators by spending much money. The work of these orators was to make the rank and file of human beings understand that the proper way to achieve their demand was to bear injustice silently and not resort to struggle. “By tolerating injustice,” they said, “When a person becomes non-violent, a kind of spiritual power awakens in him. And as a result of this spiritual power peace and equality prevail throughout the country. So you should rather engage yourself in the practice of self-purification than have recourse to struggle.” But the humans paid no heed to this either.”

“Now the demon became restless. He began to run to and fro like an insane person, tearing his hair and shouting violently. In no time his mask of gentleness was rent asunder. Then he started crying out loudly in his demonic tongue.”

“O devils, O demons,
Man-eaters, ghost-children,
Where are you my friends and comrades
Come and save me from the humans.
O black-marketeers and bribers,
O pot-bellied
Come, O come! Where are you??
I am going to be killed by Humanity.” (1)

Failings of ayurveda & allopathy

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "There was a time when diagnosing illnesses and prescribing medicines were not very difficult because diagnoses were based on three constituents of the body – air, bile and phlegm – with blood as a fourth constituent. But increased physical and glandular complexity has led to a corresponding increase in the number and complexity of diseases. So to what extent can this method of diagnosis be useful to a doctor? Is it not simply guesswork to prescribe medicines for a particular disease when the medicine is prescribed for the disease but the disease is diagnosed according to the bodily constituents?" (1)

Thousands of years ago when ayurveda was founded the human body was not as complex as it is today. So the system to diagnose disease was based merely on four properties: air, bile, phlegm, and blood. Now, however, due to the increasing complexity of the human body things have changed. Ayurveda is no longer as useful as it once was. So one should not depend fully on ayurveda as it cannot cure everything.

Ananda Marga advocates the practice of having all pathys under one roof because no pathy can cure everything. For example, allopathic medicines do not kill diseases, rather those medicines are taken lifelong. Whereas another pathy may offer a medicine that actually cures the disease. In that case, that other pathy should be used. Yet, allopathy may be very useful for diagnosing a patient and performing certain surgical procedures etc.

Allopathic medicines do not kill diseases

Ananda Marga philosophy guides us, “Disease is caused by negative microvita. When people take allopathic medicine to cure a disease, the medicine disturbs the ecological balance of the body because more negative microvita get concentrated at the point of the disease. Allopathic medicines do not kill diseases – diseases die by their own natural death. Although the medicine may check the disease, the increased concentration of negative microvita can overcome the effect of the medicine. In fact, the increased concentration of negative microvita caused by allopathic medicines creates many new types of diseases, and due to this, two or three new diseases are presently being created every decade.” (2)

Ultimately, when a patient is admitted to a hospital then teams of doctors will decide which pathy is best for treating the patient. Each pathy has its own specialty. For more about this read the subsection - “Methods of medical treatment” - in the chapter “Various Occupations”.

In memory of Dada jii + 7 more

Baba

In memory of Dada jii

Note: This letter is only for those who have reverence for Sadguru Baba Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji and try to follow His Ananda Marga ideology.

Namaskar,

When Dada Nirmoha'nanda came to town with his magic rings and stones - i.e. sphatik (white stone), and other items - then my margii friend (Ram) became quite interested. After all, Dadaji was telling that these rings and stones (a) are very powerful, (b) save one from all kinds of problems, and (c) will fulfill all one’s desires etc. And Nirmoha'nanda was telling that the rings and stones he was selling were very special because he sits in the cemetery all night long doing sadhana with those items to infuse them with spiritual energy. Hearing all this from Dadaji, my margii friend Ram became quite intrigued. To get confirmation he spoke with some other senior margiis and wts. They started laughing and told him that Dada N's trade / business is false, and that sometimes he even uses empty threats with people as well * (see asterisk note below). Bear in mind that even if someone brings their cargo of stones and rings to the cemetery for all-night sadhana, those inert rings and stones can never be infused with spiritual power etc.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Why palmistry, horoscopes, fortune-telling, & astrology are anti-dharma

When anyone puts faith in inert, mundane, materials like magic rings, stones, fortune-telling, or palmistry, then for them the eternal, all-powerful entity Parama Purusa becomes secondary. And that brings their spiritual degeneration. Those people think that these rings and crystals are the main powerful force in this universe, not Parama Purusa. This mentality breeds anti-spiritual feeling as it goes directly contrary to basic spirituality. So while this entire situation is bad from top to bottom, there are two clear-cut immediate losses in the spiritual realm:

#1: Those who follow this type of dogmatic approach rely more on their, inert, mundane, materials and stones than on Parama Purusa. They think that fake paraphernalia will save them in their hour of need, not the Divine Entity. Once that happens, their inherent link with the Sadguru Parama Purusa is severely compromised as they are looking in another direction not Parama Purusa.

#2: When they wake up in the morning - instead of doing Guru Sakash - they look towards their stones and so-called magic rings. Yet it is the practice of Guru Sakash that makes the whole day blissful and successful, while looking towards those mundane rocks and rituals just makes the mind inert.

Lucrative operation and his sales ploy

So our Dadas should not resort to these ritualistic dogmas like magic rings, sphatik (white stone), palmistry, and other materials used by religious traders. But even then a few indulge in this - i.e. they follow Dada Nirmoha'nanda’s example.

Now see what Dada Nirmoha'nanda was doing: Most often he would purchase materials from a wholesale supplier at a very low price and then would sell them at an exorbitant price to naive margiis. Dada would then tell everyone that he meditated in the cemetery all night long with those stones and rings so they have special force. This was his sales pitch. At DMS he would sell maximum so-called magic rings so he could turn a hefty profit.

Dada Nirmoha'nanda was running this lucrative operation for years and years. Seeing his large income, some other Dadas became enticed into doing this as well. They have begun studying palmistry etc almost full-time, privately, in hopes of creating a giant client base like Dada Nirmoha'nanda did. They too want to make "easy money." Plus a few Didis have taken a keen interest in this activity as well.

All in all, Dada Nirmoha'nanda created a recurring problem because not only was he doing sin, but he was introducing this to younger dadas to continue this dogmatic ritual generation after generation. That is the terrible harm that was done by Dada Nirmoha'nanda's approach.

Thus Dada N was wrong and those Dadas following his tactic are committing a double-sin. Firstly, they are preaching dogma in the form of fortune-telling and fate. Secondly, they are associating those tricks with all Ananda Margiis. In consequence, good people will get the wrong impression about Ananda Marga. Rational-minded people will think we are no different from the ritualistic, outdated religions.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Save them from sinful business

It is our duty to come forward and save Dadas like Omnkareshvarananda from emulating Nirmoha'nanda. Although Dada Omnkareshvarananda is not as aggressive. So we should not sit idle as they systematically degrade themselves by continuing to cheat the public and general margiis by selling such inert, mundane rings, stones, and other materials - all the while preaching the dogma of fortune telling etc.

Through His philosophical teachings and guidelines, Baba tells us that no Ananda Margii should resort to or put trust into palmistry and fortune telling. That is the main teaching of this letter. Those Wts who cheat margiis in this type of dealing are confirmed sinners.

Conclusion

Our Dadas should not get scope to become religious traders by dealing magic rings, magic stone, sphatik, white stone or crystals. Nor should any Dada of the Ananda Marga Pracaraka Samgha indulge in ritualistic and dogmatic horoscopes, astrological readings, palmistry predictions etc. But some are following in Nirmoha'nanda footsteps. In place of doing true dharma pracar, for his business dealings Dadaji made janma kundalii (horoscopes at the time of birth) and charged for palmistry readings.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

All these points stand as sufficient reason for why no one in Ananda Marga society should give any credence or value to such inert, mundane rings and stones or any other type of fortune-telling venture. Only one should meditate on Parama Purusa.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Prashant Mahato

Importance of history

Baba places great importance on the study of history as it enables both individuals and communities to learn from past mistakes and thereby progress. Failing that, without the study of history, people commit the same old blunders over and over again. In which case, they remain shackled by the crimes of the past and are unable to advance. So the review of history holds a unique place for the progress of any society.

Pretend to be virtuous while harbouring sinful thoughts

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "To shake off the influence of Avidyámayá one must take shelter in Him. To count beads or practice ritualistic worship without directing one's mind towards the Supreme Entity is of no use. To pretend to be virtuous outside while harbouring sinful thoughts within is absolutely meaningless. Such hypocrisy carries no value." (1)

Ananda Marga ideology teaches, "In the absence of love any service or penance is for show and is therefore fruitless. All ritualistic devotion, sham penance, counting beads etc. are meant only for public show and true love and the Supreme goal are lost from sight. Brahma cannot be attained through actions, since the sweetness of joy is lacking in such ritualism. On the other hand the divine bliss is easily attainable to those who base their Sádhaná on love." (2)

Sadguru Baba warns us against the use of such inert rings and stones etc as they are a hindrance to spiritual life. Not only that, on multiple occasions, Baba personally warned Dada Nirmoha'nanda not to indulge in palmistry fortune-telling and other such dogmatic dealings. But time and again, Dadaji returned to his habit. Sadly, he disobeyed Guru's order and plunged himself into this endeavour.

Do not be a fatalist

With a clear and pointed mind we should all abide by His tenets and never get caught up in any fortune-telling episodes. A true sadhaka should rely on Parama Purusa alone and help others do the same. Then they will not become victims of any type of religious trader. Finally, may we all work to cure those following Dada Nirmoha'nanda’s bad example.

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "There are many people who are fatalists. They are worshippers of fate. A fatalist means a worshipper of fate – a worshipper of fortune or fate. They are worse than nature-worshippers. What is fate? There is nothing such as fate in this universe. So far as the philosophy is concerned there cannot be anything called fate. What is fate? Everyone has to undergo the reaction of his or her past actions, the reaction of the original action. Suppose your finger comes in contact with fire; you will feel pain, you will have to suffer but, at that moment one will say that because your finger came in contact with fire, that’s why you are suffering. But when the reaction takes place after a long gap, and when the original action is not known or has been forgotten, or when the original action took place in another past life, and you do not know what was the original action – in that case you say, it is fate, it is fate. But actually there is no fate. What you call fate is actually the reaction of our past actions. In saḿskrta, it is called saḿskára, in Latin “reactive momenta”. So the third thing is, fate cannot be the object of ideation – fate is simply the reaction of the original action. So when there is no original action, there cannot be any reaction. The reaction is a creation of your own action. When the reaction is a creation of your own action, you are the creator of the action. So, how can the reaction be your object of ideation? No, a person must not be a fatalist, a fate-worshipper, a person must be bold and bravely face all troubles, all consequences. No one should be a fatalist. So fate cannot be the object of meditation. Fight against fate." (3)

Dogmatic article in bhakta samaj magazine

Some time back there was an article written in the Bhakta Samaj magazine (of which Dada Santoshananda is the senior editor) that stated that Baba was powerful and dynamic because He was born under a certain configuration of stars. The point being that certain stars were controlling His fate etc. This is the dogmatic approach that was published in the Bhakta Samaj magazine. We should all be keen to ensure this type of dogmatic writing is not repeated or reproduced etc. Otherwise people will think our Marga is just like those dogmatic religions. So we should be perfectly aware about this so we can remedy the situation and prevent further mistakes in the future.

* Dada N threatened me also

Here I should also recount my own experience from a few years back. Dada Nirmoha'nanda came to me also and gave me a monkey threat that I should obey him and give him large donations otherwise he (Dada N) would go to the cemetery and arouse his avidya tantric powers and curse me. Dada N then took another angle. He said that if I give him a big donation then he will fulfill all my worldly desires. Depending upon how much I gave him, he would do japa 1000 times or 2000 times in my favour. But if I did not give him anything then he would curse me. I just kept quiet. I was frustrated but did not take any action out of my concern and fear.

Later, I came to know that what happened to my friend and I are not isolated cases, nor limited only to Dada Nirmoha’nanda. Dada Govindananda threatens to curse people if they do not do as he says. And he promises boons if people financially support him. It is clear to me now that these type of so-called avadhutas are off track. They should be given a lesson to bring them back on the right path.

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “Read any so-called religious book: one will seldom find anything resembling tolerance of the religious beliefs of others...If necessary, different views can be compared and presented in philosophical books. The philosophical and psychological loopholes in an argument may be pointed out without being disrespectful.” (4)

Resonate in Your heart

PS Intro: Just like a small child who lovingly and sweetly complains to its mother, in the same manner here the bhakta is lovingly placing his complaint before Parama Purusa - the nearest and dearest One. This type of very close and intimate relation is characterized by tremendous sweetness and love. That is what is depicted in this song.

Above average bhakti needed to understand this song: This type of feeling develops when one’s sadhana is of a very high standard - by His grace. Those with lower sadhana will not understand this song.

If sadhana is dry - then one will think the feelings expressed in this song are odd or peculiar. It is just like when a child is young then it has tremendous degree of love for the mother and will cry when she is not present. As one ages though that degree of love steadily declines such that older children think it is strange how a young child is crying for its mother. Because that older child does not have that high degree of love for mother. Similarly, to understand this song, above average bhakti for the Parama Purusa is needed.

"d́eke jái sáŕá náhi pái,e kii kat́hin hrday, kat́hin hrday..." (Prabhat Samgiita #3184)

Purport:

My Parama Purusa, through my sadhana, bhajana, kiirtana, I go on calling You, but I do not get any response from You. How can You ignore my call. What an unkind Entity You are. It seems my cry does not resonate in Your heart; otherwise, You would respond. Supreme Being, sometimes You come close in my sadhana, and sometimes You go away far away whereby my mind becomes dry. And from there You smile, keeping Yourself distant. What type of drama or divine play is this of Yours.

Baba, You go on floating on the tidal waves of the ocean, with the melody and rhythm of the dance on the sea. I always feel Your sweetness and tales of affection. In all the ups and downs of my life, I invariably feel Your presence in my heart.

Parama Purusa, Baba, You are ever-present, in all the ages; You remain all the time as the Immortal Entity. You never get lost and are present in those memories which have already faded away. Your flow of eternal love is in the nucleus of everything, manifested or unmanifested. Everything is saturated with Your blessing. It is Your grace.

Baba, You want to listen to my call again and again, and that is why You do not respond. This is Your loving expression....

Condition of women: reduced to cage birds

Ananda Marga philosophy, “The social and religious rights of women were curtailed in numerous ways so that they would be kept forever in thrall to the men. They were even forbidden walking in the open space under the open sky. Covered in burkas and veils, they were reduced to the status of caged birds living on seeds and water. It was decreed that they were not entitled to their ancestral property. The girls were given much less than the boys. It was categorically declared that they were not entitled to mukti or mokśa; that women go to heaven, it’s true, but the men get all sorts of privileges there that women cannot get. These rubbish ideas have died out due to various circumstances. In some places they are in the process of extinction, and in other places they are totally extinct.” (1)

The only way for the survival of human civlization - Ananda Vanii #51

“With the progress of science, the globe has become smaller to the human eye. No place on the earth is now inaccessible, and this is why it is the most opportune moment for building a universal human society. Set yourselves to task without any further delay. Remember, a human society based on ideology must be built with the help of all the moralists and progressive people of the universe. This is the only way for the survival of human civilization. The task will inevitably be fraught with obstacles, and by combatting them you will have to be victorious.”

Note: The above is one of Baba’s original Ananda Vaniis. These original and true Ananda Vaniis are unique, eternal guidelines that stand as complete discourses in and of themselves. They are unlike Fake Ananda Vaniis which are fabricated by most of the groups - H, B etc.

Boomerang on the sinners themselves

“The matter does not end here. The wickedness, the deceit, that pollutes human society first moves along a crooked path like its masters, and finally ends up by annihilating its masters themselves. The wicked persons at the helm of affairs, who are now out to liquidate others, will one day themselves be liquidated and erased from history by their own followers. Sinful persons, by following the crooked path, contaminate the atmosphere of the universe, but ultimately that sinful conduct, in a similar crooked way, will recoil like a boomerang on the sinners themselves. Those who deprive others of justice, who stifle others’ voices and try to immortalize themselves by their own loud proclamations, are themselves usually deprived of justice in the end. And their loud cries which had risen to the skies, are smothered in the underworld. Shiva the Omniscient was aware of these hard realities. So He warned the devoted and dharmic people, Pápasya kut́iilá gatih [“The ways of sin are always crooked”].” (1)

Prout: common people should impeach in a court of justice

"The common people can be temporarily bewildered by the chicanery of party politics, and this is especially so when politicians happen to be good orators. By the power of their oratory, politicians try to escape from the consequences of their misdeeds. It is noticeable that politicians, to further their party interests and to enhance their individual power and position, do not hesitate even to cause suffering to millions of people. Perhaps, out of a sense of duty, the common people should impeach (in a court of justice) culpable politicians."

"By merely delivering a few fiery lectures before less intelligent common people, the protagonists of party politics tear apart all the hopes and aspirations of the common people and undermine their prosperity. Various bizarre ideas jumble the minds of the common people, and they become dumbstruck." (1)
