Spiritual closeness vs darkness of… + 4 more

Baba

Spiritual closeness vs darkness of…

Namaskar,

Whatever thoughts we harbour over and over again remain alive in the mind. If one thinks about their childhood friends from fifty years ago on a regular basis, it will seem like those events happened only yesterday. Those memories will be fresh in the mind. In contrast, if one tries to remember their high school mathematics theorems or chemistry equations etc, and even if one got an A+ in those classes, but if one has not thought about mathematics or chemistry for years and years, then those facts and figures will be impossible to recall.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Any idea which gets remembered again and again will be vibrant and crystal clear in the mind, while those forgotten ideas just fade away into oblivion.

Most desirable idea for bhakta

Likewise, we will not keep MPD tomb in our mind; rather, as bhaktas, we will always keep the most supremely positive memory of Dearmost Baba in the core of the heart and in the deep recesses of the mind. The sweet thought is, “Parama Purusa Baba You are along with me wherever I go in this vast universe. You are ever with me - protecting me and caring for me. Your varabhaya mudra - Your divine blessing of fearlessness is always reflecting in my mind.” This is our Ananda Marga way of thinking, and this is our reality.

So just like the mother who keeps a delightful memory of her little boy, similarly bhaktas keep an intimate remembrance of Baba. In both cases, that keeps the mind sparkling with that positive idea.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Conclusion

For Ananda Margiis, the most desirable idea in this universe is that “Parama Purusa Baba is with me.” So this idea should be inculcated again and again. A bhakta's thinking should be: “Baba is watching me, He cares for me, and He loves me…” For Ananda Margiis, this is our routine remembrance. From morning till night, all our practices and thoughts revolve around this pinnacled idea - that, “He is with me.”

Whereas the fake or so-called mahaprayan program enforces the false and negative notion that omnipresent Baba has left this earth. That is why at so-called mahaprayan it is regularly seen that people are distraught and crying. They get adversely affected as they recall that memory of Oct 1990. That sad remembrance of the tomb envelopes the mind.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Ravi Ganguli

This email is a short investigation into how our human memory works and how that is related with the so-called mahaprayan program.

~ In-depth study ~

MPD tomb is a negative remembrance

The dark occasion of so-called mahaprayan imposes the false notion that Baba has gone - that He has left. Indeed the very name of the so-called mahaprayan program itself means “great departure”, i.e. that Parama Purusa has gone away. That is why no true bhakta appreciates this type of anti-devotional ritual.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

In A'nanda Ma'rga, Baba guides us that we are always to remember the most positive ideal. He tells us to always remember our Ista mantra, always practice madhuvidya (2nd lesson), always chant His name etc. We are to contemplate these practices and ideals throughout the day.  Then, by His grace, the eternal truth will be permanently established in the mind that, “Parama Purusa is with me.” Thus, there is no scope to adopt the dogmatic program of mahaprayan which dictates that Baba is gone.

Keeping His name in heart

Every true sadhaka cultivates the idea in the heart and mind that: "Baba is always with me, caring for me, helping me." This is the proper spiritual outlook, and this is the way to remember Dearmost Baba.

“Whatever you speak or do,
Forget Him never;
Keeping His name in your heart,
Work, remembering it is for Him,
And, endlessly active, drift in bliss.” (1)

Our Ananda Marga is that most positive stance in life. The whole entire concept of Ananda Marga rests on the supreme idea that, “Baba is mine, and He is with me.” This is the great idea which pulsates in the mind of each and every Ananda Margii.

Adaptation of an Islamic tradition

Initially, my Tiljala faction presented this annual mahaprayan commemoration to margiis as being some type of divine and heavenly occasion that was exclusively for Mahasambhuti. But now the whole situation has changed positively. Today, mostly everyone understands that mahaprayan is just one copy and adaptation of an Islamic dogma.

In contrast, other religions never did any type of mahaprayan observance. They would simply burn the body and spread the ashes - whereas for mahaprayan a tomb is needed. And only Muslims were doing that for mahaprayan. And my Tiljala mahaprayan organisers have followed suit. We can see how in Tiljala our Dadas have implemented that same Islamic tradition by encircling the tomb to perform the tomb worship during the annual mahaprayan death day commemoration in our Tiljala campus etc.

So while the Muslims do their ceremony for deceased human beings, my Tiljala organisers are doing this annual death (mahaprayan) ceremony to Taraka Brahma Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji. The precept is that Guru is dead. That is the unfortunate affair that is going on each October in Tiljala.

You will never find news as follows

Namaskar,

The strange thing is that all kinds of annual mahaprayan news are getting published in Bengali newspapers on a daily basis, but you will never find news as follows:
    - annual mahaprayan of Allah
    - annual mahaprayan of prophet Muhammad
    - annual mahaprayan of Christ
    - annual mahaprayan of Lord Buddha
    - annual mahaprayan of Lord Mahaviira
    - annual mahaprayan of Rama
    - annual mahaprayan of Ganesh / Hanuman
    - annual mahaprayan of goddess Durga / Kali
    - annual mahaprayan of Moses

Regardless of how dogmatic the religions are they never do the annual mahaprayan of their chosen God, Lord, Deity etc, but unfortunately my faction in Ananda Marga commemorates the annual death day, i.e. mahaprayan of the object of ideation - God. That is the irony: the God of my group died.

When everyone understands that mahaprayan signifies the death day of any mortal, then this dogma will be dropped forever.

Namaskar,
In Him,
Bibek Roy

Our Dadas say, “I am just a medium -

Sadguru Taraka Brahma Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji
is teaching you and He is ever-present"

Sadguru Baba is guiding you and in the next breath they say He is dead - mahaprayan.

True bhaktas know that there is no such thing as mahaprayan for Sadguru Baba. As the Sadguru He never passes away, He is omnipresent. So those Wts who believe in & propagate that Sadguru is dead are confused. Actually they are displaying hypocritical behaviour. Why?

When our Avadhutas acaryas give initiation, or revise anyone’s lessons, or give further lessons of sadhana, our Dadas say, “I am just a medium - Sadguru Taraka Brahma Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji is teaching you and He is ever-present."

So in one breath our Wt dadas say that Sadguru Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji is guiding you and in the next breath they say He is dead - mahaprayan. That is both hypocritical and sinful.  Hypocritical because they are telling one thing and doing something else. They are telling that Guru is no more in their mahaprayan program, yet when teaching sadhana they are relying on Him. And it is sinful because it is abusive against Guru.

It is similar to your own children playing before you and talking among themselves that, “My mother is dead.” As a mother, how will you feel. And not only that, they go one step ahead, before your eyes they started commemorating your annual death day ceremony

How do you feel about their ignorance?

True bhaktas never participate in the dogmatic annual death day ceremony / mahaprayan of the ever-present God. That is against pre-1990 Caryacarya.”

Exercise caution when presenting your case to uninformed public
Once there was a fierce contest between two headmasters from neighbouring villages in Burdwan district. It was also a contest between the villages themselves, for each claimed that its headmaster was the most learned. The contest took place in a field between the two villages.

One of the headmasters was a just and learned man, the other was a cunning fellow and a master of deceit. It was the latter who first addressed the gathering. “Ladies and gentlemen, being the underdog in this contest I humbly request you to permit me to ask my opponent the first question.”

“Certainly,” said the crowd. “A man of your humility should undoubtedly ask the first question.”

“Could you tell me the meaning of ámi jáni ná (*)?” the cunning headmaster asked his opponent.

“I don’t know,” replied the learned headmaster.

The cunning headmaster cast a triumphant glance around the audience. “Ladies and gentlemen,” he declared, “I asked him a simple question to which he replied, ‘I don’t know’. Just see how ignorant he is.”

“True! True!” shouted his followers, throwing their umbrellas in the air and dancing stick-dances in joyful abandon. The junior village police officer was so elated that he offered to buy everyone sweets.

The cunning headmaster then said, “Let me give him another chance.”

“Certainly! Certainly!” shouted the crowd.

“Sir, what is required to make viváha?” (**) asked the cunning headmaster.

“It’s quite simple really,” replied the learned headmaster, “ghaiṋ is required. That is, prefix vi plus vaha plus ghaiṋ is equal to viváha.”

The cunning headmaster glowed with delight. He peered at the crowd and said, “Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, you are experts in the ways of the world – I am a mere child compared to you. Have you ever heard of anything called ghaiṋ being required in a marriage ceremony?”

“No, no, of course not,” shouted his delighted followers. “We’ve never heard of such a strange thing.”

“Let me tell you what is required in a marriage ceremony. Lets see… a priest, a holy stone, sacred fire, new clothes, towels, baskets, and so on, but nothing like a ghaiṋ. My fourteen [[times]] two – that’s, er, that’s fifty-two – generations [[of ancestors]] have never heard of this peculiar ghaiṋ thing.”

The crowd burst into applause. “Well said! Well said!” they shouted. “You are the most learned headmaster. Congratulations. You’ve won the contest.” (1)
Asterisk Notes

* ámi jáni ná: This is a Bengali phrase and the literal meaning is “I don’t know.”

** Sir, what is required to make viváha?: This is one way of asking for the etymological or grammatical breakdown of the term viva’ha. So that is how the learned person responds to the query. In day to day life for the common people, vivaha means marriage.

Tiljala copied mahaprayan from Islam + 3 more

Baba

Tiljala copied mahaprayan from Islam

Namaskar,

It is a natural human tendency to copy or emulate others. What people see others do, they also do. It is just a form of ape psychology. Apes imitate everything. Humans also have this tendency. In day to day life, people copy from others for their own use.

This is also the case with the dogma of mahaprayan / tomb worship. It is quite clear that the inventors of so-called mahaprayan copied their ways of observing "mahaprayan" from Islamic holy tomb (mahasamadhi) worship. Read below and you will find many striking similarities between (a) the 800-year-old Islamic pilgrimage / gathering at Ajmer Sharif for the tomb (mahasamadhi) worship of their great Sufi saint and (b) the recently invented so-called mahaprayan / tomb worship programme in Tiljala.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

For instance, both programmes are exactly six days long and both employ many of the same rituals and tactics like tomb (mahasamadhi) worship, prasad, money collection, mass feeding, asking for boons etc. The only real difference is language: Arabic versus Bangla / Samskrta. I wonder who copied from whom? Seeing how the Muslim ceremony has been going on since the 13th century, it is quite clear. Read below and it all becomes self-evident.

Tiljala tomb worship replica of Islamic tomb worship

Look here at the scene in Tiljala whereby after 1990 the mahaprayan / shraddhainjali / annual death day / tomb worship started. It is just a replica of Islamic dogma. See how the followers of so-called mahaprayan are encircling the tomb in the Memorial. The five-pointed tomb is raised off the ground and above is the actual i.e. mahasamadhi.

So each year for the mahaprayan / tomb worship function, the Tiljala organisers use this mahasamadhi / tomb as the focal point of the program. It is veritably tomb worship or idol worship. Rather, this is the tomb itself and the mahaprayan organisers treat this as a holy place where one can seek boons etc. That is the type of dogma that has been instilled. The proof is that our Dadas call all to Tiljala; our elder brothers feel Tiljala is the only place to perform mahaprayan / tomb worship. It is a point of dogmatic pilgrimage (tiirtha) and at the center of it all is one tomb.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

So the mahaprayan tomb worship function is a shraddha / annual death day dogma - just like as done in Islam (see photo further down in this email). Those mahaprayan organisers feel the deceased is gone and all that is left is to ask for boons etc. Sadly, those organisers lost the idea that Baba is the Eternal Parama Purusa - mahaprayan (tomb worship) is the exact opposite. By sight anyone can understand that the below scene is a carbon copy of Islamic death day worship.

~ Below is the Tiljala MPD ceremony ~

~ Above is the Tiljala MPD ceremony ~

Once again, by the above photo it is clear that the Tiljala organisers use this mahasamadhi / tomb as the focal point of the program. It is veritably tomb worship or idol worship. This is the tomb itself and the mahaprayan organisers treat this as a holy place where one can seek boons etc. That is the type of dogma that has been instilled. The proof is that our Dadas call all to Tiljala; our brothers feel Tiljala is the only place to perform mahaprayan tomb worship. It is a point of dogmatic pilgrimage (tiirtha) and at the center of it all is one tomb. By sight anyone can understand that the above scene is a carbon copy of Islamic annual death day ritual.

Comparing tomb worship in Ajmer (India) & tomb worship in Kolkata

Now compare both: The tomb (mahasamadhi) worship in Ajmer and in Kolkata.
(1) They both have tomb (mahasamadhi) worships;
(2) They both are 6-day programmes of chanting and kiirtan;
(3) They both offer free shraddha food;
(4) They both are annual gatherings;
(5) They both entail requesting boons; etc.

In the below photo, the dome houses the main tomb - that is the focal point. And every year, the Islamic MPD (urs) is organised for an annual death ceremony (mahaprayan / tomb worship) in Ajmer (India). Muslim followers gather for the 6-day commemoration. Huge crowds arrive for this tomb worship ceremony and there are lots of decorations to greet all those worshipers etc.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

So look at the below Islamic tomb worship / MPD photo and compare it with the above photo of tomb worship / MPD in Tiljala. You will find them to be quite similar and at the forefront is that they are both an annual tomb worship ceremony.

~ Below is an Islamic annual death / MPD ceremony ~

~ Above is an Islamic annual death / MPD ceremony ~

In the above photo, the dome houses the main tomb - that is the focal point. And every year, the Islamic MPD (urs) is organised for an annual death ceremony (mahaprayan) in Ajmer. Muslim followers gather for the 6-day commemoration. Huge crowds arrive for this tomb worship ceremony and there are lots of decorations to greet all those worshipers etc. All in all, the above Islamic MPD photo is the inspiration for the MPD / tomb worship programme in Tiljala. The two are quite similar and at the forefront is that they are both an annual tomb worship ceremony.

Tiljala & Islamic tomb worship: mournful death ceremonies

Plus in both observances, the worshipers think a great saint died. The dire irony is that one of these programmes is related with a human being; and, humans do die. Whereas, the other - i.e. so-called mahaprayan / tomb worship- is related with Sadguru; and, Sadguru never dies. So although Sadguru does not die, those attending so-called mahaprayan / tomb worship think He has died. Thus, this point is similar in both programmes, since those at so-called mahaprayan feel He is gone forever - tomb worship.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

The Muslim saint died and those followers think he died - so that is fine. With regards to Baba, the Sadguru incarnate, He did not die but so-called mahaprayan participants think He died. So from the participants' perspective it is 100% the same. Both are annual death / tomb worship ceremonies. Both are ceremonies where people mourn and cry. Thus, the Islamic programme in Ajmer (India) and the so-called mahaprayan programme in Tiljala are strikingly similar. The Tiljala mahaprayan tomb worship is an exact copy of the Islamic tomb worship in Ajmer.

Ask why they imported Islamic dogma

Why did Dada S and his team copy and import it into AMPS? The answer is very simple. Several thousand Muslim priests enjoy their material life by the generous offerings of bhaktas who come each year for their annual death ceremony programme. It is a lucrative programme for those priests. And Dada S wanted the same type of situation. Financial and material gain then is one distinct reason behind the current so-called mahaprayan program.

Secondly, hosting a "mahaprayan" / tomb worship programme in Tiljala is supportive of their narrow agenda of geo-sentiment. Those organisers of so-called mahaprayan want to make Tiljala the epicenter of Ananda Marga. For this, our Dadas know they must have something in Bengal to attract naive margiis - i.e. those who do not read Baba's books critically.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

For those "mahaprayan" / tomb worship organisers, their goal is to portray Tiljala as a veritable tiirtha (pilgrimage) to attract money and people. By this way, our Dadas will gain fame and prestige as well.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Riten Chattopadhyay

Mahaprayan is just one copy of Islamic dogma

By Baba's grace we should strictly follow His below teaching and not turn any limited physical spot into a place of worship. Mahaprayan tomb worship is just one copy of Islamic dogma - we must not fall in this trap. By His grace we are to realise Him within.

"Vya'pitvm ca...dine"

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "The Supreme Being is omnipresent, all-pervading and witness to everything, everywhere. It is not proper to confine Him to a particular place and say that He has eaten butter at this place or taken a dip in the Ganges at that particular place, thus limiting Him to a particular region or a particular country or the glorification of a particular sacred place, and thereby limit His all-pervasiveness" (1)

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states, "The one formless, beginningless and infinite Parama Brahma (Supreme Consciousness) is the only entity to be attained by living beings – That alone is Jagat Guru (the Supreme preceptor), That alone has revealed Brahmavidyá (intuitional science) to us through the medium of the name and form of Anandamúrtijii. Unit beings must be made to appreciate Its majesty. " (2)

One should not drown in tomb worship dogma -
follow pre-1990 Caryacarya

It is unfortunate that despite Almighty Baba's warnings about such dogmatic ways of worshiping Him, now a few of His own so-called disciples are doing the very things He warned against. All His teachings of sadhana have been pushed aside and in place of that tomb (mahasamadhi) worship has started. Reverence to Baba means following His guidelines - not following the guidelines of the dogmatic religions in the name of Baba.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Baba Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji has given thousands of discourses, but nowhere will you find instructions for observing so-called mahaprayan / tomb worship as it is going on now. Only in Islamic scriptures can you find such guidelines. As bhaktas of Baba, we should follow all the sadhana lessons and meditate on Him, and study His spiritual teachings given in Subhasita Samgraha etc. We must not follow the dogma of Islam.

~ In-depth study ~

Can only be a copy of Islamic dogma

The so-called mahaprayan / tomb worship programme was copied from Islam. Here is the proof; please read carefully. This type of  annual death ceremony of mahaprayan  / tomb worship is only done in India by Muslims. Lord Krsna and Lord Shiva never die. Furthermore, nobody reaches to some spot to celebrate Lord Buddha's passing.

Hence so-called mahaprayan tomb worship can only be a copy of Islamic dogma. It is quite obvious that Dada S wanted such a tiirtha related with the death so he copied Islam.

It is very disgraceful that when Sadguru does not die, even then the inventors and participants of "mahaprayan"  / tomb worship treat Him as an ordinary mortal who dies. I request participants to please consider and think about what you are doing. If you are not following Baba, He will not harm you, but nature will not spare you.
http://anandamarganewsbulletin.blogspot.com

Similarity between Islamic mahaprayan & AMPS mahaprayan

Here following is a detailed, point by point listing of the Islamic tomb (mahasamadhi) worship ceremony that is done by Muslims. See for yourself if this resembles the so-called mahaprayan programme in Tiljala

~ Below is courtesy of dargahajmersharif ~

[1] "The six-day Urs (death ceremony or mahaprayan in Sanskrit) commemorates the death anniversary of the Moin-ud-din Chisti. It is held in the Islamic month of Rajab, the time when the Khwaja (deceased saint) died. Muslims from all over India and even abroad throng Ajmer during the festival."

[2] "Every year Urs (mahaprayan) is held here for six days in his remembrance."

[3] "The Dargah (tomb) Sharif Ajmer, located at the foot of a barren hill, is the place where the Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti mortal remains lie buried. The Dargah (tomb) with a marble dome is situated in the center of a courtyard and is surrounded by a silver platform. This dogma is propagated by mullah that the shrine is a place of wish fulfillment for those who pray with devout and pure hearts."

[4] "The most important of all Muslim pilgrimage centers in India, the dargah (tomb) of Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti at Ajmer Sharif."

[5] "The shrine or tomb (mahasamadhi) comes alive with activity when thousands of followers throng the shrine during Urs (mahaprayan) fair. Urs (mahaprayan) is held on the seventh lunar month according to Islamic calendar and is variable according to the solar calendar. Sufis and believers converge from all over India and abroad, as it is a dogma propagated by mullah that those visiting during Urs (mahaprayan) receives special blessings of the saint."

[6] "The best time to visit is during the Dargah (tomb) Sharif of Ajmer in Rajasthan, India. The dargah (tomb) becomes a hub of activity in the seventh month of the lunar calendar when the Urs (Mahaprayan) is held to mark the death anniversary of the Khwaja Moin-ud-din Chisti."

[7] "Several thousand followers of Islam throng to this place during this time of the year and food is cooked in huge cauldrons and served to the Worshipers of Islam."

[8] "Upon arriving at the shrine, one has to make the entry from the Dargah (tomb) Bazaar. This would lead to the first courtyard. There is a mosque built by Emperor Akbar in this courtyard. There are also present two cauldrons or degs, where donations could be made."

"This dogma propagated by mullah followers of Islam visit Ajmer Sharif to be blessed by the Khwaja (deceased). When their prayers are answered, their wishes fulfilled, they come again to offer the promised gilaf (velvet cloth), ittar (perfume), etc. Besides these offerings, they also recite the holy Qur'an (holy scripture), nafal namaz, milad and aayat-e-karima and khatam khawajgan."

 About bhakti

When one has bhakti they can solve all types of problems. And without bhakti, nothing is possible. Due to a lack of bhakti, some did far more harm than good when they tried to help the society. They created huge problems for the people. So bhakti is the key for success in any field or arena of life.

Ananda Marga philosophy says, “Devotion [to Parama Purusa] has tremendous power which neither knowledge nor action has. Rather people of knowledge, the jina’nis, have a subtle sense of vanity...So, if you can arouse devotion, then by coming in contact with you, thousands and thousands of people will attain real paramartha’ and spiritual salvation. That is, in order to attain liberation from the triple bondages– physical, psychic, and spiritual– you will have to attain paramartha’.” (1)

Arouse your divine wisdom

Ananda Marga philosophy states, "O human beings, proceed on the path of Oṋḿkara towards subtleness. Do not run after the superficial, pleasant mirage dominated by tamoguńa. Establish yourself in sattvaguńa and then merge yourself into Brahma. Reach the point whence oṋḿkára has started. Awaken your latent dynamism through sádhaná and devotion, arouse your divine wisdom and merge that pure divinity into the endless stream of divine glory. Attain the Supreme state for which you have suffered tremendous privations. Today you have the most favourable opportunity to prove yourself as human being.” (1)

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states:
"(1) Immediately upon reaching adolescence (in India, one reaches adolescence in between the ages of twelve and fourteen), males should start using Kaopiina (laungot́á) and should pull back the foreskin of the penis.
(2) The foreskin should be pulled back and the area washed and kept clean.
(3) Never indulge in bad practices, such as masturbation, etc." (1)

Key points for living in society

Ananda Marga Caryacarya states:

"(8) You should always strive to maintain the honour of women, without considering whether a woman belongs to a particular caste or religion."

"(9) Never attack the religious beliefs of anyone. Make the person understand gradually with logic. If you attack a person's religious beliefs, it means you have attacked Ananda Marga."
