Danger of fake quotes

An article entitled “Karman’a’ Baddhate Jiivah” has been published in Hindi Prout Magazine with the author’s name as Shrii Shrii Ánandamurtii. However, any reference to the place, date of the discourse, or name of the book in which it was originally published, is conspicuously omitted from this article.
An article with missing reference is a bogus article as there is no traceability. Missing reference may lead to two types of confusion –
(1) Any error in the article committed during typesetting cannot be verified due to the lack of source information for the discourse, such as the name of the book from which it was taken.
(2) Any distortions against Ananda Marga ideology added in these magazines will be propagated in the name of Bábá.
For these two reasons, the very fact that the article does not have proper reference is a serious defect, sufficient to condemn the publication. One need not even look for further defects and distortions; the fact of lack of reference is enough to render the publication trustless.

Danger of Poorly Referencing Sadguru’s Discourses
Whenever a Márgii reader comes across an article with the author’s name as Shrii Shrii Ánandamurtii or Shrii Prabhát Rainjan Sarkar there is a natural trust and faith that the reader develops in that article. This trust has been abused by self-centered WTs to propagate false ideas with which to achieve their selfish ends. One example of a ludicrous, concocted quotation falsely ascribed to Bábá is the following: "If you want to know me, work for my mission, because I have merged myself with my mission." This fake quote has never been issued with a reference, because there is no reference---it was not stated by Baba. Yet it has been propagated endlessly in Baba’s name, with no citation. In this way Wt’s duped innocent Margiis into thinking whatever is instituted by the “mission” is sanctified by Baba.
It Opens The Door Of Making Up Fake Quotes In Baba’s Name
Such fake quotes find their way into improperly cited or uncited published material and get propagated. A snowball effect of a small distortion getting converted into a mammoth dogma follows. This is evidence that negative minds can use this wrong style of reference-less quotes of Bábá, without providing the discourse or name of the book---to write bogus, concocted phrases and attach Bábá's name to legitimize them and befool readers.

Periodicals and magazines like Prout, Ánanda Yuga, and Ánand Rekhá play a very significant role in documenting the history of Ánanda Márga. Fifty or one hundred years from now, these magazines will be a highly used source for the people to research about Ánanda Márga. This also means that anything faulty published in these magazines finds its way into the annals of Ánanda Márga. There are many articles published in these magazines with the author’s name as Shrii Shrii Ánandamurtiji or Shrii Prabhát Rainjan Sarkar. However, any reference to the place or date of the discourse is conspicuously missing from many of these articles.
The editors should ensure that proper reference to the discourses or books by Bábá be provided while replicating any articles in our Ánanda Márga magazines, to avoid the aforementioned pitfalls and prevent maligning our beloved Gurudev Bábá.

What Should Have Been Done
After turning hundreds of pages, and several dozen books, it is found that-- “This concerned discourse comes from Ananda Vacanamrtam part 26, chapter 7, Hindi 1995 edition, Patna, discourse date 31 October 1978.” This much information would have easily solved the problem. By proper referencing, readers can verify its authenticity and correctness. But in the absence of said reference, it becomes quite difficult-- indeed impossible for lay readers to confirm. Because Baba’s discourses are in the tens of thousands of pages. How are people going to confirm? So proper referencing is a must for civilized society. The lack of proper referencing opens the flood gate of manufacturing fake quotations in the name of Baba. And there are so many incidents in the short history of Ananda Marga, where fake things are propagated in the name of Baba. If we are unable to stop distortion in Baba’s teachings, then Ananda Marga will easily turn into a collection of dogma, unfortunately.

Purport:
O’ Parama Purusa, I longed for You in my mind and heart, but sadly You did not respond to my call. I looked for You in all the so-called holy places - Ananda Nagar, Tiljala, and Jamalpur, Varanasi, Puri, Mecca, Rome, Jerusalem, and also Ranchi, in search of You. Alas, I did not see or find You. My yearning was not quenched. To have Your darshan I wandered in forests and went in the gaps between the clouds - everywhere. Baba, with all my desire, I want You and cried for You, but, unfortunately, You have not answered.
O’ my Priyatama (Dearmost), Your cosmic liila is inexplicable. The Tiirtha Pati of my mental temple, even while remaining physically away from You, I have realized this divine truth that You are the core of my being, my Innermost.
O’ my Parama Purusa, I have nothing to say if You play Your liila’ from a distance - do as You wish. Seeing that I derive endless, heavenly sweetness, non-stop. Cinmaya, I want a wee-bit of Your krpa, in each and every moment - always.
Baba, You reside in my mental temple, I have realized this divine truth that You are the core of my being, my Innermost...

[1] Liila': In this universe there are innumerable events taking place. When we know the cause of a particular event, then that is kriida. And when the cause is not known then it is liila. If the cause of a given event was not initially known and later on becomes known, then that event becomes kriida. Thus as one's knowledge increases - and more and more events can be rationally explained - then for the scope of kriida increases.
Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "There is a subtle difference between liilá and kriid́a. When the cause of an effect is easily discernible it is called kriid́a, but when the cause is unknown and only the effect is easily discernible it is called liilá. This creation is the liilá of Parama Puruśa because human beings do not know why He has created it. With the help of their intellect they are eager to know the cause of creation, but will they ever be successful in this quest? They want to solve the riddle of creation, but they have no notion about the cause. So whatever Parama Puruśa does is all His liilá, It cannot be called His kriid́á. I have already said that when one discovers the relation between the cause and effect it is called kriid́á, but when one can see only the effect and not the cause, it is called liilá. For human beings having only a small unit mind the creation is the liilá of Parama Puruśa, but to Him it is His kriid́á." (1)
[2] Cinmaya: Embodiment of Consciousness. This is one of the infinite attributions of Parama Purusa. That is why one of His names is Cinmaya.
