Donkey Marriage - 3B: G Family

Baba

DONKEY MARRIAGE - 3B: G. FAMILY

~ Part 3B ~

(Note: Before reading this letter be sure you have read part one of this series. - Eds)

Namaskar,
Everyone should be aware that on 7th Feb 2014 a marriage is to be held in Trivandrum (Kerala) - and unfortunately it runs contrary to the ideological fundamentals of our Ananda Marga.

Important: The marriage will be held in 3 weeks but it does not hold up to Baba's divine teachings. Firstly, it is a caste marriage. Secondly, the bridegroom is a non-margii**. Thirdly, per Baba's teaching we should always aim for both bride and groom to be dedicated Ananda Margiis. Failing that, we should be keen to adhere to Baba's explicit warning and parents should not impose their will and force their margii daughter or granddaughter to marry non-margii boys.

Bride: SS Goenkas'a granddaughter has been initiated into the Ananda Marga sadhana system and she regularly attends dharmacakra.

Bridegroom: The husband-to-be is of the same caste as the bride. He is a non-margii, who has agreed to do both a Hindu style marriage and an Ananda Marga system of marriage - one after another.

Thus in a few short weeks the Goenka family will be involved in an unideological marriage. The first part of this series examined how this marriage is based in caste dogma. Here are more critical aspects of this issue.

HOW MONEY RULES THE ROOST

GREEDY WTS MASSAGE HIS FEET

The Goenka family has consistently indulged in caste marriages, yet even then - because of his money - Shyam Sundar Goenka always held a respectable position in Ananda Marga - this has been going on especially in the recent years of last two decades etc. Any other person / family would have faced serious consequences. This shows the sad fact how money rules the roost.

Indeed, Baba points out how in this capitalist era, money is everything.

"No matter how many other qualities they may possess, vipras and kśatriyas who think independently, possess a sense of dignity or are self-reliant, cannot establish themselves unless they learn to flatter the vaeshyas in a psychological way. Even the unworthy son or relative of a wealthy person has the opportunity to sit at the head of society, and through the power of money an unattractive daughter is properly married to a good bridegroom. A good marriage cannot be arranged even for the sons of the poor, intelligent and educated though they may be, let alone the daughters of the poor. In fact in the Vaeshya Age people cannot hope to be respected unless they are rich. Those who hope for respect or have gained it, depend or have depended on the mercy of the vaeshyas." (Human Society - 2)

This above quote applies perfectly to the marriage situation in Goenka's family.

And that is why some Wts are are hovering around like bees around honey. They are ready to sacrifice everything for money.

Here again is Baba's guideline how money is the dominant factor in the capitalist / vaeshyan era. Specifically Baba has mocking how even bogus type of people are hailed as being great because they have money.

Yasyásti vittam' sah narah kuliinah;
Sa pańd́itah sah shrutavána guńajiṋah.
Sa eva vaktá sa ca darshaniiyah;
Sarve guńáh káiṋcańamáshrayanti.

[Those who have wealth are high-caste, are well-educated, possess many abilities, are good orators and are good-looking. They have all these qualities because they have money.] (HS-2)

In His above teaching Baba is mocking how in materialistic societies even idiots are treated as being great simply because they have money.

Because Goenka is rich some greedy Wts massage his feet and dance according to his direction. That is why such workers are eager to attend. That is the unfortunate situation, and all sympathy goes to the margii girl who may not realise what is about to befall her.

PARENTS MUST NOT FORCE MARGII DAUGHTERS

TO MARRY NON-MARGII BOYS

The boy is a non-margii and the girl is an Ananda Margii.

Baba says, "Male members of the Marga can marry females outside the Marga, but it will be better to marry a female member of the Marga to a male member of the Marga, as far as possible." (Caryacarya - 1, Marriage Ceremony, point #5)

Baba's above directive is very clear and straightforward. Margii boys may marry non-margii girls and bring them into Ananda Marga; but margii girls should not marry non-margii boys. Baba's warning is very explicit: Our margii girls should not marry outside the Marga. That is Baba's key directive.

TRAGIC FATE OF AC HARISHANKARJI'S DAUGHTER

And indeed, to understand this we need look no further than the abominable marriage that happened with Ac Harishankarji's daughter. She was a very sentient devotee who strictly followed all the do's and don'ts of AM life. And Ac Harishankarji arranged her marriage with a non-margii boy, who was initiated for the sake of the marriage. And that boy who became her husband made her life hell. She was very keen to follow 16 points, but he forced her to cook tamasik food (meat) for him every day. Not only that, he forced her to prepare and serve meat to their sons. Indeed, in each and every aspect of life, that husband tortured her by forcing her to engage in tamasik activities. He was a brute who ruined her life; and since the day they were married she cried and suffered. Her life became filled with torment. This is the very well-known, yet tragic tale.

MARGII SISTERS MUST NOT MARRY NON-MARGIIS

AND INVITE TROUBLE

That is why - especially in this male-dominated era - Baba warns us that margii sisters should not marry non-margii boys.

The problem is that the non-margii husband negatively influences and forces his wife to stop following Ananda Marga sadhana and lifestyle. This is what we practically see happening when a margii sister marries a non-margii brother. The girl stops following the path. This is the worst outcome.

So best is for both bride and bridegroom to be fully, committed margiis. That is the ideal approach, especially in today's ultra-materialistic era. But if this is not possible and a margii is going to marry a non-margii, then it should be a male margii marrying a non-margii sister. Because today's world is male-dominated, thus it is manageable - though not ideal - for a margii boy to marry a non-margii girl and bring her into Ananda Marga. The boy will usually be able to bring his wife onto the path of sadhana etc.

Whereas it is not good for a a margii girl to marry a non-margii boy. Hence, Baba's stern warning in Caryacarya against this. Such a marriage will undermine and stunt the margii girl's spiritual growth - a most unfortunate and tragic outcome.

USUAL ALIBI

Goenka has been telling many that he was searching for 1 1/2 years for a margii groom for his granddaughter - and that he could not find one. He repeats this wherever he goes.

But we should all understand the greater truth of the matter. Yes, Goenka Dada sent an email and searched etc, but the degree of searching that was required to get a proper suitor he did not do. Rather, he did a token search to satisfy others, and then fulfilled his desire by performing a caste marriage. This is the way it works. People search and receive according to their desire. If Goenkaji really wanted to arrange a revolutionary marriage for his granddaughter then his search would have been far more intense and he would have achieved his goal. It was not an impossible task and he had the resources to do it. The reason why it was not done was because in the soft corner of his mind he was hankering for a caste marriage. And that is what he got.

But to others he can say, "I exhausted all my resources and searched so hard but alas could not get a proper marriage." This is his alibi.

The real issue at hand is that in these twilight years of his life, Goenka is quite rigid to adhere to his caste dogma. To divert inquirers, he says, "I have been searching, I have been searching for year and not finding anyone." But his excuse is just like a pseudo-margii justifying that he could not find sentient food to purchase, and that is why he is eating meat. Anyone seeing this situation will easily understand that the pseudo-margiis had a strong inner desire to eat meat. If he really wanted sentient food he would have been able to find it.

Similarly, Goenka's justification that he could not find an ideal groom is bogus. From the outset his inner desire was to arrange a caste marriage. All the while he tells everyone that since long he is seeking an ideal marriage candidate, yet his heart's desire was to do exactly what he has done: Arrange a caste marriage with a non-margii boy. The whole situation is quite apparent and very sad. The strategy is "see-through."

WHY NOT A NON-MARGII FROM A DIFFERENT CASTE

Goenkaji may furthermore justify that he searched long and hard for a margii boy for his granddaughter, but ultimately he could not find one - that is why he selected this non-margii boy from his own caste. This is the way he might explain things.

But if he was truly sincere in his approach and really could not find a margii suitor, then at least he would have selected a non-margii boy from a different caste and gotten him initiated. But instead, he indulged in a caste marriage.

Really then there is no excuse for what Goenkaji has done.

MUST NOT FALL PREY TO DOGMA OF ONE'S ANCESTORS

Here below is Baba's reply to those who give way to following the dogmatic likings of their forefathers - like Goenka is doing with this upcoming caste marriage on 7th Feb 2014.

"In the society, due to old dogmas, weaknesses and lack of proper education, when the human mind becomes inert and dormant it not only destroys itself but affects the movements of others also. “My ancestors were doing this, so how am I to forgo them?” This is nothing but the same stagnancy. If your ancestors were wearing their Dhotis above their knees and a napkin tied around their heads, why then do you put on pants and a terylene shirt? Nobody follows their ancestors. It is a weakness for a person to take the lead from their ancestors only, ignoring everyone else. Mental stagnancy is a kind of disease. It is motionlessness."
"People should not be allowed to rely on the dogmas of their ancestors as it obstructs their own mental pursuit and those of others also. Suppose a cart is in an inconvenient place, blocking the road. The cart has to be pushed to one side. If it cannot be pushed easily it will have to be moved more forcibly. You will have to go ahead – this is the law. It will not do for you to say, “Let the cart remain as it is.” Similarly, you should not say, “The members of my family hold conservative views,” and use this as an excuse for inaction. This should not be allowed. People who hold conservative views are really materialists and are mentally stagnant. Speed has to be infused in them. And not only this, there is need for acceleration in the speed." (AFPS-6, Three Causes of Sin)

Thus no one should fall prey to this dogmatic and stagnant mind-set that, "Since my ancestors arranged caste marriages then I too should arrange caste marriages." This type of psychic stagnancy is very harmful and impedes progress. This is just a lazy excuse for not doing the right thing.

GREEDY VANDANANANDJI

Despite the obvious pitfalls and problems with the upcoming marriage, some Wts are quite excited to attend - including Vandananandji. Such workers have their select reasons why they are eager to attend, even though the marriage is completely against Ananda Marga ideology. And more about this is reviewed in the next installment on this topic. Any worker or margiis strict in dharma and AM ideology will never attend such a wedding that is rooted in dogma.

Namaskar,
In Him,

** Bridegroom is non-margii who will get a token initiation before the marriage.

Note 1: JUST DONKEY MARRIAGE NOTHING MORE

The aforementioned upcoming marriage in Trivandrum (Kerala) is nothing but a donkey marriage. Superficially, they have everything ready in terms of proper outfits and acaryas on hand etc, but upon closer examination the foundations of this marriage are completely bogus as it is wrapped up in caste dogma etc and contravenes the tenets of Ananda Marga. On the outside it looks like Ananda Marga but in reality it is not Ananda Marga. That is what is meant by donkey.

Here "donkey" refers to anything that is done for show or for a superficial reason. Here below Baba gives the example of donkey food.

"If food is not given with that heart-felt feeling and if one's own life is not in danger due to starvation, in that condition then any food offered is donkey food, gardabha'nna. So one must not eat that food." (Summary of Shabda Cayanika - 20, p.163-64 [Bangla])

So that is donkey food - food given just for show or to impress others etc.

And donkey sadhaka is when one is doing sadhana sitting in a very erect position hoping that someone will notice him and be impressed. But internally, that "meditator" is just thinking about himself, not Parama Purusa.

And in the case of the aforementioned marriage in Trivandrum (Kerala), they are arranging it in a very superficial manner to make it look like an Ananda Marga marriage. But in fact, the dharmic fundamentals are wholly lacking. To the untrained eye and non-sadhaka, it may look like an Ananda Marga marriage, but to every sincere Ananda Margii it is evident that this is just a donkey marriage.

Note 2: THOSE WHO ARE CONFUSED

Some margiis get confused about this below teaching; in particular, they misunderstand the way the word "consider" is used:

"While arranging a marriage [in the case of that kind of marriage], the guardians should not consider the caste or nationality of the bride and bridegroom." (Caryacarya, part 1, Marriage Ceremony, pt #1)

The term "consider" is often misunderstood, especially amongst new margiis and new students of AM ideology. The sense is that when arranging a marriage, one should not look for a boy or girl from their preferred caste (so-called) , country, or race etc. For instance, Baba's teaching is that if ones belong to the so-called brahmin caste then they should not seek out a so-called brahmin caste boy or girl for marriage. Anyone doing this is going against the aforesaid rule. This explanation is based on Baba's many discourses where He explicit warns us about the horrors of so-called caste and national sentiment. So readers should reflect on the above quote bearing in mind the greater context of Baba's ideological teachings. Then they will get a proper understanding. If anything is unclear then write in with your thoughts or queries.

Note 3: "DONKEY MARRIAGE - 3A: GOENKA FAMILY"

Shyam Sundar Goenka is a senior margii that is why it is important and needed to carefully examine his actions; lest others be led astray.

Donkey Marriage - 3A: Goenka Family

Baba

DONKEY MARRIAGE - 3A: GOENKA FAMILY

~ Part 3A ~

Note: Shyam Sundar Goenka is a respected, senior margii who holds great stature in Ananda Marga. People hold him in high regard and expect him to live up to the values and principles of Ananda Marga ideology. If a senior margii like Goenkaji does something wrong it can have a sweeping effect across the entire Ananda Marga society. That is why it is important and needed to carefully examine his actions; lest others be led astray. With such persons like Goenkaji we must examine their life under a microscope, because they are so influential. Whereas with xyz margiis, there is no such need to critically evaluate their every moment because their actions are not going to have a ripple effect across our Ananda Marga society. But with Goenkaji, his every word and deed stands as a guiding light for others. So we must ensure he is acting according to the guidelines of Ananda Marga.

Namaskar,
Everyone should be aware that on 7th Feb 2014 a marriage is to be held in Trivandrum (Kerala) - and unfortunately it runs contrary to the ideological fundamentals of our Ananda Marga.

Important: The marriage will be held in 3 weeks but it does not hold up to Baba's divine teachings. Firstly, it is a caste marriage. Secondly, the bridegroom is a non-margii **. Thirdly, per Baba's teaching we should always aim for both bride and groom to be dedicated Ananda Margiis. Failing that, we should be keen to adhere to Baba's explicit warning and not allow margii sisters to marry non-margii brothers.

Verily, there are many critical aspects that demonstrate how this upcoming marriage is unideological and harmful on various fronts. The margii girl herself is in danger of being swallowed up by non-margii way of life. That is the most pressing concern.

DETAILS ABOUT MARRIAGE:

Here is a brief introduction to the bride and bridegroom who are arranged to be married 7th Feb 2014 in Trivandrum (Kerala).

Bride: SS Goenkas'a granddaughter has been initiated into the Ananda Marga sadhana system and she regularly attends dharmacakra in SS Goenka's house. Furthermore, she completed studies in the UK.

Bridegroom: The husband-to-be is of the same caste as the bride. He is a non-margii, who has agreed to the Ananda Marga system of marriage.

So the selection of this boy is highly problematic for numerous reasons.

COWARDS DO CASTE MARRIAGE

It is a caste marriage as both bride and groom are of the same caste. This is against Baba's revolutionary marriage system and an essential point for breaking the caste dogma. For decades, margiis have bravely had revolutionary marriages. Only Baba, being the dharma Guru, could infuse a system to tear down the caste dogma. In the past no one could do so - not Buddha, not Shankaracarya, not anyone. And margiis courageously followed Baba's order and did great sacrifice by going against the caste dogma. By Baba's grace, in a short time period the caste dogma was broken. Baba's given revolutionary marriage system was an instrumental factor. So it is shameful that now this upcoming marriage on 7th February in Trivandrum (Kerala) is plunged in caste dogma.

Unfortunately, SS Goenka does not have the requisite backbone to overcome caste dogma. He is wholly unable to go against caste dogma; his family has as long history of this. Intellectually he knows it is wrong; but he proceeds onwards anyway. The bottom line is: What he is doing is sinful.

THE CASE OF ACARYA RAM TANUKJI & CASTE MARRIAGE

Everyone knows that Family Acarya Ram Tanukji was a top lawyer in Ananda Marga who tried the famous court cases. So Ram Tanukji would regularly meet with Baba for advice and counsel.

That time Ram Tanukji was also trying to arrange a marriage of his family member, and he was explaining to everyone that he could not find a match. In the end, Ram Tanuk arranged for a caste marriage in his family.

As soon as that was arranged, Baba declared that He does not want to see the face of Ram Tanukji. So Ram Tanukji was not allowed to see Baba - just he was crying outside in despair. Baba gave guidance on the legal cases to him via others. Ram Tanukji was not allowed inside.

This gives the clear-cut guideline that Baba is very strict on this point of caste marriages. Because those court cases were highly important yet Baba would not speak with the main lawyer because he performed a caste marriage.

CASTE DOGMA AND BASTARD

In His teachings, Baba furthermore states that those who are followers of caste dogma do not believe in God because every person is a child of God. When Parama Purusa is the Father of the entire creation, then how can there be different castes. The children of the same Father cannot be of different caste.

Baba even states that those who follow caste dogma do not believe in the Cosmic Father. And since they do not feel they have a Cosmic Father then they themselves are bastards. Beacuse those in the society who do not believe in their father are bastards. Verily they do not have a father and that is why they are bastards.

[V28-19, GD 2 January 1970 Patna]

DADAS EAGER TO ATTEND CASTE MARRIAGE

It is most tragic and shocking that certain Dadas are very eager to travel great distances to attend this dogmatic caste marriage. Each and every aspect of their life is to be an expression of the ideological fundamentals as given by Guru Lord Shrii Shrii Anandamurtiji. They know that caste marriages are wholly forbidden in Ananda Marga. We do not in any way subscribe to the caste dogma. So it is absolutely mind-boggling that various Dadas have expressed great anticipation in attending this upcoming caste marriage on Feb 2, 2014.

Our Dadas should not lend their support in any way for such a marriage that is unideological and based on caste dogma. So it is very perplexing why some Dadas are so eager to attend, when caste marriages themselves are such a blatant contravention of Baba's teachings and mandates. Indeed, why would any Dada / Wt be eager to attend?

Well, many say it is because SS Goenka himself is a monied man and he wants the marriage to be well-attended and viewed as legitimate. The best way to do that is to have maximum Dadas in attendance. It seems SS Goenka is ready to pay handsomely to those Dadas who atend. So Wts are anxious to go and show their respect, and receive a big bonus or gift from Goenkaji. That is why some of our Dadas are supporting this dogmatic caste marriage.

REVOLUTIONARY MARRIAGE:

CASTE MARRIAGES NOT ALLOWED IN ANANDA MARGA

In Baba’s below Hindi teaching, He is speaking out against the dogma of caste marriages.

Mandela & Forgiveness

MANDELA & FORGIVENESS

Namaskar,
Nelson Mandelas life was more consistant with Babas teaching than most of our WTS and margiis alike. As you are fully aware that Ananda Marga is in serious crises due to the lack of forgiveness and magnanimity of mind. Reconciliation amongst our groups is not possible because of the lack of our first of our 15 Shiilas. Nelson Mandela showed the world that through forgiveness what is most impossible is made possible. We, South Africans, are fortunate to have experienced the impact of of a magnanimous mind. Nelson Mandela united a nation on the brink of civil war.

South Africa today is a most vibrant country with huge potential - thanks to Nelson Mandela. Since our first democratic election great progress has been made in the advancement of lives of previously disadvantaged communities. Millions of low cost housing have been provided, tap water provided and electricity supplied to the masses. Yes, I concede, a lot is still to be achieved.

Yes, there many parallels between Ananda Marga and the political movement to which Mandela belonged. South Africans have pledged to follow the legacy of Nelson Mandela. Sadly our leadership (Ananda Marga) have abandoned Babas legacy so soon. Greed for material wealth and power has overwhelmed the sadhakas mind- unimaginably so.

We are celebrating the life of a great personality and not the political movement to which he belonged. For this I am saddened that the TRIBUTE TO NELSON MANDELA was not posted, rather a negative viewpoint has been given centre stage.

Mandela: Confused About Forgiveness

Baba

MANDELA: CONFUSED ABOUT FORGIVENESS

Note: This is in reply to the letter "Mandela & Forgiveness."

Namaskar,
To understand Mandela's story one should first understand Baba's teachings on forgiveness. Here we should remind ourselves of Baba's divine guidelines on this important yet often misunderstood point.

NO RIGHT TO FORGIVE THOSE WHO HARMED THE COLLECTIVE

Baba says, "In collective life one has no right to forgive anyone; in individual life you can extend maximum forgiveness-- rather, the more forgiveness, the better. Forgiveness is something personal; it is not a collective matter. Suppose you are an inhabitant of India. If someone harms the collective life of India, you must not forgive them. Likewise, as you belong to the entire human race, you must not forgive anyone who harms humanity." (29 Nov 1970 DMC, Kolkata)

Here the critical piece is that no individual - like Mandela or anyone - has the right to forgive or pardon anyone who has harmed the entire country.

FORGIVENESS IN COLLECTIVE LIFE IS DISASTROUS

Here is another teaching where Baba warns us how forgiveness cannot be practices with those who have harmed humanity on the whole - the results will be disastrous.

"Ks'ama' vaeyas't'ik jiivan ke liye maha'n gun' hae.
Sa'muhik jiivan ke liye maha'n dos' hae.
Sa'muhik jiivan me bha'ratva'sii is dos' se grast haen.
Atah satark rahoge.
Yah dos' bahut khara'b dos' hae;
Sa'mu'hik jiivan men agar yah kiya' gaya'."

30 Dec '70, Patna, Samgrame Vaepariityam ('Opposite Stance in Battle') AV-28 (H)

Translation:

"In individual life forgiveness is a very good quality. In collective life it is very bad. Be aware, inhabitants of India are suffering from this defect in collective life. If it (forgiveness) is done in collective life, this defect is disastrous."

WRONG USE OF FORGIVENESS

MAKES PEOPLE VICTIMS OF MORE EXPLOITATION

Next Baba points out how even great saints have made huge errors and grossly miscalculated this point of forgiveness, in which case the common people suffered more at the hands of the exploiters.

"He [Lord Mahaviira] placed too much emphasis on forgiveness and mercy. He taught people to forgive their worst enemies, even if they were as deadly as scorpions and snakes. As a result of this teaching, people lost the will to fight against the enemies of society." (PNS-16)

So for someone to revere Lord Mahaviira - the founder of the Jain religion - because he extended unconditional forgiveness to exploiters is pure foolishness. That type of forgiveness undermines the integrity and well-being of society. That is Baba's distinct guideline. So no one should praise or Mahaviira on this point.

CAN ONLY FORGIVE IN INDIVIDUAL LIFE IF PERSON IS RECTIFIED

NO RIGHT TO FORGIVE FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY

Here again Baba critically warns us that forgiveness cannot and must not be extended to those who have harmed the greater humanity. No single individual has the right to pardon or forgive them. For example, no individual may forgive those who have manipulated and distorted Baba's discourses because those perpetrators have committed a crimes against humanity.

"Ks'ama', or forgiveness....What is forgiveness?...How should a virtuous person behave? If one is satisfied that the wrongdoer's habit has been rectified, one may pardon him. If someone is perpetrating atrocities on thousands of Ananda Margiis, however, one has no individual right to excuse the wrongdoer because that wrongdoer has harmed thousands of innocent people. But if a person commits atrocities on me alone, and if I am satisfied that his nature has been transformed, it would be proper for me as dharmika to show forgiveness. However, if his nature has not been rectified, my forgiveness may result in that person becoming even more of a reckless scoundrel and in such a case forgiveness would be considered as a sign of my weakness. This is the dharmik interpretation of ks'ama'." (AV-4)

THOSE WITH A WEAK MIND FORGIVE PREMATURELY

In Carycarya, Baba states that those who prematurely forgive others - i.e. before those wrongdoers have truly rectified themselves - suffer from a defect in the mental realm. Such a weakness of mind leads to more harm to the social body.

"You may come to a temporary truce with a hypocrite, but do not forgive till his/her nature is reformed. Immediate forgiveness is a special weakness of mind. It results in worse harm to society." (CC-2, Society, pt #6)

SUMMARY WHEN, WHY, & HOW TO FORGIVE

Thus in these above guidelines Baba is instructing us that:

1) If society is harmed, no individual has the right to forgive the perpetrator(s). (Note: The next section addresses how collective forgiveness may be granted.)

2) A single person may only offer forgiveness in individual life- never in collective life. Even then, that forgiveness in individual life must be done under certain conditions: Only if the guilty party has fully rectified themselves.

3) Rectification is a pre-requisite for forgiveness. If the wrongdoer has not corrected their defective behavior and character then they cannot be forgiven.

4) Premature forgiveness results in further harm done to the society.

These are some of Baba's key points on forgiveness. Thus, forgiveness is one particular practice that can only be done under very limited circumstances. It is not something that can be handed out freely or done indiscriminately. Doing so will create more problems and lead to more injustices.

HOW FORGIVENESS MAY BE GRANTED FOR CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY

As discussed, no single individual - like Nelson Mandela - can forgive those who have harmed an entire country. The question then arises how or when can forgiveness be granted to those who have harmed humanity. Here is a hypothetical situation.

Suppose country A invaded country B and and committed heinous crimes against the people of country B. Later on, the leader of country B cannot single-handedly issue an apology to country A. Rather, the government of country B must hold a referendum: A country-wide vote where all those exploited by country A are educated about the crimes committed by country A and then given opportunity to cast a ballot in favour or against forgiving country B. If the vast majority, i.e. 75% of the exploited mass of country B, decides that country A has been rectified; and, 75% of the exploited mass votes to forgive country A, then forgiveness may be granted - otherwise not. Remember, no single individual can grant forgiveness for crimes against humanity.

COWARDS ALWAYS MISUSE FORGIVENESS

NO COURAGE TO FIGHT

Some sincere margiis get confused that Mandela of South Africa was a great and magnanimous man because he was willing to forgive and pardon those exploiters. But what Mandela has done is wholly against Baba's guideline; Mandela had no right to forgive those exploiters who so terribly abuse and harmed the common masses of South Africa.

Indeed, pardoning those exploiters is not the way - that is not indicative of a magnanimous mind. Rather, it is a cowardly act. Mandela had no right to forgive and pardon exploiters when they perpetrated terrible crimes against humanity by enslaving the blacks of South Africa into endless poverty.

Tragically, Mandela did the same mistake as Gandhi as they both forgave those who exploited and harmed their own people. Both betrayed their own people for the sake of political gain; both were cowardly and allowed the exploiters to continue their economic exploitation. Because of their cowardly approach, still today that exploitation is going on in their respective lands. Still the people are at the mercy of those very same exploitative methods.

Unfortunately some Ananda Margiis remain confused on this point.

Such persons like Mandela are hypocrites. They are revered as heroes but they are not great.

Until we educate the masses of the world about Ananda Marga ideology and this point of forgiveness, then cowards like Mandela will be worshiped as a hero, and the masses will be duped - thinking Mandela type of people to be great and magnanimous.

This is the unfortunate state of affairs. We must remove their darkness and preach Ananda Marga ideals: Never forgive demons for collective crimes against humanity. No single individual can pardon those who did collective harm. That can only be discussed and decided by the greater collective body of the exploited mass. what Mandela did was wrong, hypocritical, and deceitful. He forgave the exploiters and sold out on his own people.

In Him,
Satyajiita

Mandela & Forgiveness

Baba

Donkey Marriage - 2: Pune Wedding

Baba

DONKEY MARRIAGE - 2: PUNE WEDDING

(Note: This is the second letter in this series; text in brown is cited material from the first letter. A link to the entire first letter has been appended below. - Eds)

Namaskar,
Revolutionary marriages (RM) are a big part of our Ananda Marga way of life. As we all know Baba has placed tremendous importance on RM's and waged a ceaseless campaign against caste marriages, the dowry system, and all kinds of exploitation related with marriages.

In a nuthsell, the benefits of the RM system are vast indeed as it strengthens the gene pool by marrying people who come from diverse backgrounds, brings tremendous social unity, and is integral for forming one human society - among so many other plus points. As Ananda Margiis, we must be vigilant to attend to and follow Baba dharmic guidelines with regards to marriage. After all, this is an essential component of society building and if we do not adhere to His given tenets, then who will.

Unfortunately, the recent trend in certain parts shows how some are short-cutting and even blatantly disregarding and going against Baba's given revolutionary marriage system - in a multitude of ways. Here we are not only talking about the bride and groom, nor just the margii families involved, but also our Wts who attend, sanction, condone, and preside over such marriage ceremonies.

MARRIAGE DETAILS FROM PUNE WEDDING:

THE ANANDA MARGA SYSTEM IS NOT FOLLOWED

Here enlisted is another example how the Ananda Marga marriage system is not being followed per Baba's guideline.

In Pune city (India), brother Shirakeji arranged to have his son married and the bride was of the same so-called caste. Thus it was a caste marriage. That is the first issue.

Secondly, they also accepted huge cash and kind as dowry. That is the second issues as Baba forbids any type of dowry in the Ananda Marga marriage system.

Knowing all this was happening, even then that wedding was attended by big-wig WTs of Ranchi group. Ranchi GS Ac Citsvarupananda is the main WT who guides brother brother Shirakeji. By their mere presence at such an unholy marriage arrangement where caste dogma was embraced and a dowry was accepted, those top Wts are condoning the marriage. This is a very bad scene indeed. They should have refused to participate.

But what to speak of attending, most or all them ate heartily at the occasion and engaged in all kinds of merriment and festivities. By doing so, those Dadas issued an open statement that one need not adhere to Guru guidelines on marriage. That is the shocking outcome of this marriage. Blame goes on various levels. The only ones free of blame are non-margiis who have no idea about such matters. All others shamed themselves by going against Guru in the public arena on such a critical and important issue.

Rule Violations: Caste marriage, acceptance of dowry, attendance by top Wts.

"For marriage, neither party can demand a dowry." (1)

GREEDY WT'S GOING AGAINST DHARMA BY ATTENDING

If a dowry is involved then no Wt or senior margii should conduct that marriage ceremony - nor should they attend or eat at such a program. All that can be said is that laokik family members may attend out of family obligation but they must not take food at such a ceremony.

Yet so many Wts are in clear violation of this by attending and condoning caste marriages, marriages with dowry, etc This begs the question why our Wts are involving in this way. Are they getting payment for performing such marriages?

All in all, it is quite disturbing to see and 100% contrary to Guru's teachings.

THE CUSTOM OF DOWRY IS UNCIVILISED

"Another glaring instance of social injustice is the custom of dowry. This is a real disgrace in a civilized society. If we go deeply into the reasons for such an injustice it will be clear that there are two main reasons behind it."

"First, dowry occurs where males and females earn disproportionate incomes. The Náyyár and Izave communities of Kerala follow the matrilineal order and hence no dowry is claimed by the males. The Khasia community of Assam follow a similar system. In Burma, though the patrilineal order is in vogue, women are economically independent so they get a dowry."

"Secondly, dowry occurs where there is a disproportionate number of males and females. If the number of males is more, females get dowry and vice-versa. In Punjab, the number of males is more than the number of females so the females get a dowry. The situation is similar for Muslims. The false vanity of the aristocracy also causes dowry. Aristocratic people think, “Our family is a high class family, hence we should get a dowry.” In a Proutistic structure there will be no scope for dowry."" (2)

REVOLUTIONARY MARRIAGE:

CASTE MARRIAGES NOT ALLOWED IN ANANDA MARGA

In Baba's below Hindi teaching, He is speaking out against the dogma of caste marriages.

FOR COWARDS IT IS DIFFICULT

There are some who may say that adhering to the Ananda Marga marriage system is too difficult and virutally impossible. They argue that there should be some leeway - i.e. slackness in the rules - otherwise no one will participate in our revolutionary marriage system. People are not ready to give up caste dogma and forgo dowry. That is what some say and then they give the following suggestion: Best then is to compromise and not emphasize the importance of following all of Baba's stated rules on revolutionary marriage.

The reply to such persons is as follows. Ananda Marga is not a popularity contest nor are we seeking numbers at the expense of our ideals. Baba never advocates any kind of compromise with Ananda Marga guidelines.

"We will not deviate an inch from our ideology, nor will we allow others to do so." (5)

Indeed, once one begins compromising on points of dharma then the outcome is terrible - more and more degradation occurs until the original guideline is no longer recogniseable. That is the theme Baba has expressed in the following story.

"Perhaps you know the old story of a milk vendor. Once a customer asked a milk vendor. “How is it that you sell me milk at one kilo for one rupee, whereas the other vendor gives it to my neighbour for two kilos a rupee?” The vendor replied, “If you like, I will also give it to you for two kilos a rupee.” So the vendor started giving milk at that price. After a few days, the customer said to him, “Look here, another milk vendor sells 16 kilos of milk for one rupee. Why don’t you?” The vendor replied, “I can also, if you like.” After a few more days, the customer said, “See here, another vendor is selling milk at 18 kilos for a rupee!” “I can also do that if you want,” answered the vendor, “but this time I will not be able to retain the original colour of the milk!” That is, the vendor will have to pour such a great quantity of water into the milk that it will no longer remain white!" (6)

The main teaching here is that once one begins to compromise or adulterate then that continues until the original substance no longer resembles its former self. That is what happened with the milk in the above story.

And that is what will happen to our revolutionary marriage system in Ananda Marga. As soon as the bending of the rules or compromise occurs on caste marriages or dowry, then that will trigger more and more compromises until finally our marriages will have absolutely nothing to do with Baba's given revolutionary marriage system.

That is why Baba guides us to never compromise on points of dharma, i.e. never compromise on Ananda Marga ideals. He wants that we uphold the tenets of dharma. That is our measuring rod, not how popular we are with the common people. Lastly, by upholding the tenets of bhagavad dharma, then good people will be attracted to Ananda Marga.

So we should be ever strict to live by the tenets of Ananda Marga ideology - there is not any question of abandoning those core values and guidelines in order to become more popular.

GOING BACKWARDS IS PATHETIC

The Ananda Marga revolutionary marriage system is an important dynamic for building a healthy human society. Throughout history, marriage has been used as a tool to either exclude or include various sections of humanity. Now, for the first time ever, the world bears witness to the ultimate system of marriage that will yield unparalleled results. Yet the very Dadas (and some family acaryas) in charge of overseeing Baba's revolutionary marriage have seemingly defaulted. Otherwise, how else to explain the above meltdown where a caste marriage was performed complete with a dowry. Baba Himself personally fought against this in the 1950s or even earlier. Now, decades and decades later, our top Wt administrators are jettisoning our Ananda Marga back into the stone ages on this critical matter.

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

Now is the time we should uphold Guru's glory and fight against this dogma of caste and dowry marriages which are gaining momentum in our Ananda Marga.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Ananta

Call in Sorrow & Also in Happiness

Baba

CALL IN SORROW & ALSO IN HAPPINESS

Namaskar,

The below is a rough English translation from the Hindi edition of Subhasita Samgraha part 16 (sixth chapter).

"Think about Him - that Parama Purusa is mine - I belong to Parama Purusa. Parama Purusa is with me. At any cost I am not alone. In my happiness He is with me and He is also with me in my sorrow. If I call Him in my pain and do not call Him in my pleasure and joy, that will not do. Just as I call Him in times of sorrow similarly I will call Him in times of happiness. In my state of sorrow I tell Him, O Lord, I am in misery. Please come and remove my sorrow and pain. Likewise in times of happiness I will request Him, O Parama Purusa I am ensconced in a wonderful feeling of happiness, please come and enjoy that sweetness with me. You should call Him always-- both in moments of sorrow as well as in times of joy and happiness." (Gorakhpur, 29-1-84)

"AS IS" TRANSCRIPTION FROM ORIGINAL HINDI DISCOURSE

Now please find a word for word, "as is" transcription from the audio recording of Baba's original Hindi discourse.

[DMC 29 Jan 1984 Gorakhpur.]

Once again, the above is an "as is" transcription of the audio recording from Baba's original Hindi discourse given on 29 Jan 1984 in Gorakhpur. This is an exact transcription of the original audio file; but if you compare it with the published Hindi version of this discourse in Subhasita Samgraha part 16 (6th chapter), you will find that they do not match up.

WHY THEY DO NOT MATCH

The question then stands, "Why does the printed version of the Gorakhpur discourse in SS-16 (Hindi) not match the transription of the original Hindi audio."

Here is the reply:

As we know, Baba gave the above discourse originally in Hindi. But the publisher did not print the transcription of the original recording. Instead, as is indicated in publishers page of the Hindi edition of Subhasita Samgraha-16, the in-charges translated the original Hindi into Bengali and then re-translated from Bengali back into Hindi and printed in Subhasita Samgraha part 16 (Hindi). So Baba spoke in Hindi and they translated it into Bengali, and then they treated that Bengali translation as the original, and they translated it back into Hindi and published that in Subhasita Samgraha part 16 Hindi Edition (6th chapter). That is why the printed Hindi discourse does not match up with the original transcript - that is why there are so many flaws in the printed discourse.

Suppose Baba had originally given the above discoure in Spanish. And then those publishers translated  the original Spanish into Bengali and then treated that Bengali version as the original. And then they translated that Bengali "master version" into Spanish and printed it as Subhasita Samgraha part 16 (Spanish).

Suppose Baba had originally given the above discoure in Italian. And then those publishers translated  the original Italian into Bengali and then treated that Bengali version as the original. And then they translated that Bengali "master version" into Italian and printed it as Subhasita Samgraha part 16 (Italian).

Suppose Baba had originally given the above discoure in German. And then those publishers translated  the original German into Bengali and then treated that Bengali version as the original. And then they translated that Bengali "master version" into German and printed it as Subhasita Samgraha part 16 (German).

IT DEFIES ALL LOGIC AND REASONING

It defies all logic and reasoning to translate a discourse mindlessly into Bengali. So then why did they do it? They did it for purposes of Bangalisation - i.e. trying to show Bengali as being superior and the most important. That is the cause of their dealing; and that is the cause of gross and glaring errors in the printed version of SS-16 (Hindi).

When in fact the best approach is to simply transcribe Baba's discourse in the language in which it was originally given - as was done above.

So in this case they should have simply transcribed Baba's original Hindi discourse. And that "as is" version should stand as the master printed copy. But they did not do this. Instead, they openly declared in the Publisher's page that they first translated Baba's original Hindi discourse into Bengali and then translated the Bengali back into Hindi. And that is how they published it in the book. Because of this faulty approach, the printed Hindi discourse in Subhasita Samgraha part 16 is not accurate and does not match up with the above "as is" Hindi transcription.

YOU MUST SPEAK UP

Until you speak up, this nasty approach and horrible problem will never end. And you will never get a proper discourse into your hands of what your Guru has given for you. Such publishers are ruining our devotional scripture by their methods of Bangalisation. Those who want to know more about this should write us.

In Him,
Vishvamitra

Health Risk and Attraction of Celestial Bodies

Baba

HEALTH RISK AND ATTRACTION OF CELESTIAL BODIES

Namaskar,
By Baba's grace, I had His darshan on a few occasions - one of which was in Patna during the year 1971.

THE UNIQUE TOPIC FROM THAT DAY IN PATNA 1971

Specifically, that day was the unique occasion wherein Baba clearly described why fasting is so important for our human growth and development and how fasting counteracts the negative effects of the celestial bodies during certain lunar days, or tithis.

What He told in this Patna darshan is not in any of the published material (that I am aware of) about fasting. It is not in Caryacarya part III nor in other publications.

I have since asked many acaryas about this and they too cannot tell if or when Baba discussed this topic in other places. So this does seem to be quite unique material - and that transcription is included below.

PART 1:

UPWARD PULL BY CELESTIAL BODIES

In this darshan, Baba begins by telling that due to the pull or attraction of certain celestial bodies like the moon and the sun, the liquid portion of the earth rises. Baba was detailing how the tides of the ocean and sea levels are affected by the pull of the moon on particular lunar days, ekadhashii, or the 11th lunar day, pu'rn'ima', and amavasya.

(Note: Modern day sciences of geology and physics have verified this fact. The earth's oceans and tides are primarily affected by the moon etc and can result in tidal waves and other dangerous conditions.)

Then Baba began to systemically explain how even the liquid section in our human body also gets affected on such lunar days (tithis). Specifically the liquid portion rises up and disturbs the regular functioning of the brain and other primary organs in the upper regions of the body. One's thinking and sadhana are affected on these days.

(Note: As you may know, our bodies are 60% to 65% water / fluid, so when the liquid portion of the body is affected, its affect is quite dramatic and can even make people to do crazy things. That is why lunacy stems from the root luna meaning moon. Due to the effect of the moon, people lose their mental balance. This is also recognised in the common society)

PART 2:

THE EFFECT ON THE CAKRAS

In the next sequence, Baba began detailing the effects on the cakras. Because when the liquid portion rises up then the upper cakras are hampered.

Under normal conditions, the vishuddha cakra (5th cakra) to the sahasra'ra cakra (7th cakra) are purely for subtle and sentient pursuits. These cakras are totally sattvika or sentient.

The manipura cakra (3rd cakra) to anaha'ta cakra (4th cakra) deal with both higher and lower works, both spiritual and physical activities. Baba has classified these as being ra'jasik, a mixture of crude and subtle.

Then the two lower cakras - muladhara (1st cakra) and svadhisthana (2nd cakra) - only deal with baser activities, as they are ta'masik in  nature. But as we all know certain crude works need to be attended to in this life, so those lower cakras also have their purpose.

That is how Baba described it in this darshan.

Now here comes the key point:

On certain lunar days - tithis - like ekadashii, or the 11th lunar day, pu'rn'ima' (full moon), and amavasya (new moon), the liquid portion of the body rises up and disturbs the functioning of the upper cakras - i.e. the ra'jasik and sentient cakras, which means the manipur cakra all the way up to the sahasra'ra cakra are all affected.

(Note: Baba also differentiates between lunar days known as tithis and solar days known as din in Sanskrit. And it is these lunar days or tithis which create this disturbance in the body.)

On those aforementioned lunar days or tithis (ekadashii, purnima & amavasya), due to the adverse effect of the moon's pull and the ensuing rise of the liquid portion of the human body, those higher cakras cannot function normally. In turn, our entire existence is negatively affected. Our regular and higher functioning of mind becomes impaired.

PART 3:

HOW YOGIS ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM

The ancient yogis - being practical scientists and researchers - knew well that the upper cakras could not carry out their normal manner of functioning on those tithis, so they came up with a solution.

And that solution was: fasting.

Then Baba revealed one very interesting idea. He told us that when one fasts, a vacuum is created in the stomach - because there is neither water nor food in the belly - and that vacuum pulls the liquid back down. That brings relief to our entire system on these lunar days.

(Note: Some Wts highly familiar with Baba's discourses have stated that this Patna discourse is unique and perhaps the only place where Baba has revealed this special point about creating a vacuum in the stomach.)

In that case, when fasting during those lunar days like ekadashii, then the higher organs are no longer hampered by the liquids which would normally rise up on those lunar days. Hence, the lungs, heart, thyroid, brain etc can work smoothly as usual.

That is the great benefit to the physical and mental body during fasting days.

Baba also then gave proof of this theory. He told that those suffering from arthritis and gout will experience worse conditions during ekadashii and other tithis. They will not experience any remission on these days. Because the liquid portions of the body rises up and creates problems for such patients.

So for all these reasons and more, fasting is a necessity for human health and vitality.

PART 4:

OUR PRACTICE IN ANANDA MARGA

Then in a very sweet manner Baba began to discuss about the fasting system in Ananda Marga.

He explained that our fasting days occur on the following tithis: eleventh moon (ekadashii), full moon (purnima), and new moon (amavasya).

Then He said how He did not prescribe four fastings to family people - just two, i.e. the two fasting days of ekadashii. That will help them greatly in their physical and spiritual life.

Wts are required to do four fastings as they need to engage in more spiritual activities. Baba was careful to explain that Wts are not, by definition, more spiritual or devotional than margiis, but clarified that due to the nature of Wt life, they have more spiritually oriented duties.

Finally, Baba added that all family people are welcome to fast 4 times each month, but for them it is not a requirement. Should, however, any family person adopt the practice of fasting on purnima and amavasya, then they will not be questioned in any way. If they desire, they may freely do.

PART 5:

UPA'VASA NOT ANANSHANA

Baba then clarified that our fasting days are more than just days where we refrain from taking food. Not eating is known as anashana in Sanskrit.

But that is now our approach.

We call our fasting days as upa'va'sa. Then Baba explained the meaning several times using various examples and definitions from the realm of linguistics, and we all repeated and replied.

Upa' means "near", and va'sa means "sitting". Hence upa'va'sa means to sit or reside or live near the Lord.

Here below is a quote from one of Baba's published discourses on upa'vas'sa.

Baba says, "Upa” is a Sam'skrta prefix. In Sam'skrta there are twenty recognized prefixes, and one of these prefixes is “upa”. “Upa” means “proximity”. And “Va'sa” means “to live”, “to reside”. The word “upava'sa” means then, “to live near the Lord”. “Upava'sa” – on these days of fasting, what are all spiritual aspirants to do? Mentally they should live near their Lord. On all other days they are to remain balanced between objective adjustment and subjective approach. On these days of fasting, however, on these days of upava'sa, one remains in closer proximity to the Lord than to one’s mundane duties. That is why these days are known as “upava'sa”. The word “fasting” does not represent the proper sense or proper spirit. The Sam'skrta term for going without food is “anashana” – “ana” means not, “ashana” means eating – not “upava'sa”. But these eka'dashii, amavasya and pu'rn'ima' days are days of upava'sa." (AV-6)

The above passage was given in a discourse from 1978. It nicely complements what Baba told us that day in 1971 about upa'va'sa so I have included it here.

And we all know that during fasting, one may encounter difficulty in doing intense physical labour on that day. Some people may not experience any hardship, but for others doing tough physical tasks may be beyond their reach. It varies person to person.

In that case on upa'vasa', one should engage in more intellectual and spiritual pursuits, and less in physical duties. One should goad the mind toward higher echelons of philosophy, ideology, and devotional life. On these days, one should sit near Parama Purusa. That is what Baba repeats again and again.

Thus our fasting days are not just anashana (not eating), but upavasa as we are to pursue maximally in the spiritual realm and remain with the Lord.

TRANSCRIPTION OF THAT DISCOURSE

Here following is the transcription of this very 1971 Patna discourse which was originally given by Baba in English. To date, this discourse has not been printed in any publication.

"Due to the attraction of the sun and moon, and certain tithis, the liquid portion of the earth moves upward. And that’s why it brings tides in the oceans. Similarly, in the human body also, the liquid portion moves upwards. And for this, the upper portion of the body, the normal functions of different limbs and brain are a bit affected. In the human body, the portion from vishuddha cakra to sahasra’ra cakra is the sa’ttvika portion of the human body. And from the vishuddha cakra to the man’ipura cakra, that is, the naval portion, is known as the ra’jasika portion of the body. And below the nave, below the naval portion, is the ta’masika portion of the body. In the ta’masika portion of the body, man does crude works — only crude works. That portion is also a necessity, but that portion is engaged in crude work. And in the central portion, ra’jasika portion, it is a mixture of crude and subtle - a mixture of physical and spiritual. And, in the sa’ttvika portion, that is the upper-most portion, a man is engaged in subtler pursuits, subtle work. Now, “tithi” means “lunar day”. In Sam’skrta, solar day is called “dina”, and lunar day is called “tithi”."

"Eka’dashii tithi means “eleventh moon”; pu’rn’ima’ means “full moon”, and ama’vasya’ means “new moon”. In these tithis, this ra’jasika portion and sa’ttvika portion, the normal functions get affected due to upward tendency of the liquid portion of the body. Now, for this, in ancient times, the yogiis, they invented this system of fasting. During fasting what does happen? In the stomach portion a vacuum is created, for want of food and water. And that vacuum attracts the liquid portion from the upper portion of the body - that is, from sa’ttvika and ra’jasika portions. And what does happen? The brain, heart, lungs, that is the upper portion — ra’jasika and sa’ttvika portions, get freed from the bad effect of liquid. Otherwise, you see, in the case of a gout patient, his pains increase in these tithis. A man suffering from fever won’t get remission during these tithis, because of upward movement of liquid."

"So, fasting is a necessity in the eleventh moon, pu’rn’ima’, that is full moon, and new moon. In A’nanda Ma’rga, I didn’t prescribe these four days fasting, that is, for grhii’s — that is non-wholetimers, non avadhutas — they are to fast only two days, two eleventh moons. And for workers, avadhutas, they are to fast how many days? Four days. Because they will have to engage themselves more in spiritual and higher works, in intellectual and spiritual [realms]. That’s why they should fast four times in a month - and others, twice. But if others so desire, they may fast four times — I won’t say anything. But it is not compulsory. For them, two eka’dashiis." (12/1/71 Patna)

NON-BANGLA LANGUAGES ARE STEP-CHILD OF PUBLICATIONS

It is the unfortunate circumstance that so many of Beloved Baba's divine discourses delivered in non-Bengali languages are pushed aside and kicked around by Publications Dept, as evidenced by the above transcript that has not been printed. If the above, "never-before-printed" discourse had been given by Baba in Bengali then certainly those Publications in-charges would have ensured the discourse was accurately transcribed and printed. But since it is an English discourse, they have abandoned it and let it be forgotten - nearly lost forever. That is why it has never been printed. This is the case with so many English discourses, as well as discourses given in other languages like Hindi etc. That is why many say that Publications Dept treats non-Bengali language discourses as their step-child.

SUMMARY

Perhaps two of the most unique points from this special darshan are:
(1) A main function of fasting is to free the upper cakras from the negative effects of liquids rising up in the human body.
(2) The way this happens is that a vacuum is created in the stomach due to a dearth of food and water and that vacuum pulls those liquids back downward.

The principles - both physical and spiritual - of our fasting days allow us all to progress, despite the inherent difficulties of living on this earth. It is truly Baba's grace that He has given a method and solution for overcoming every problem.

Baba has graciously given us all the opportunity and practices to live eternally at His lotus feet.

Namaskar,
in Him,
Suresh

"Maner ma'jhe kon se ka'je a'cho balo na'..." (P.S. #2033)

Purport:

O' Parama Purusa, You are hiding deep in the recesses of my mind. What You are actually doing there I cannot say. Just You are sitting in the depths of my mind - listening to all my thoughts. O' my Lord, You are everywhere: omnipresent. Nothing can remain hidden from You. It is impossible to hide anything from You - what a torture this is. Your liila, Your divine play, is very vast - verily immeasurable like the infinite ocean. To understand Your divine liila, is very difficult. When I go to measure the depth of Your liila, then my whole existence is lost. Only consciousness remains floating. Mind becomes one with You. And "I feeling" is lost. O' Divine Entity, O' Baba, if You do not want to be held, please tell me what You want. Your desire is my desire, don't you know this very fact? Baba, You are eternally hiding in my mind and heart. Nothing remains unknown to You...

Crocodile, Bird and Service - Original Hindi

~ Baba ~

IMPORTANT AND KEY NOTES FOR ALL READERS:

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE HINDI EDITION OF THIS DISCOURSE

- Those aware about both English and Hindi will readily notice that the English and Hindi versions of the discourse do not match up well. The history is that Baba graciously delivered this discourse in Nagpur in Hindi. From the original Hindi it was translated to Bengali, and from Bengali it was translated into English. The proper way is to translated directly from the original Hindi into English - and not go via Bengali. If this had been done, the English version would better reflect the original Hindi discourse. But unfortunately this was not done. This is not an isolated case - there are countless instances of such cases.

- This below Bengali poem which is printed in the English edition was not spoken by Baba when He delivered the discourse in the original Hindi.

Phela kaŕi mákho tel.
[Pay money and take the goods.]

This was added purely for purposes of Bangalisation. This is the tragic trend that has gone on for so long. Some top Dadas dirtied Baba's divine discourses by adding their own selections based on their own selfish agenda. This is the horror they did - all in Guru's name. Nature will not spare them. And it is our duty to raise this matter on the public forums. This is not something we can ignore.

WARNING:

YOU MUST SPEAK UP

Until you speak up, this nasty approach and horrible problem will never end. And you will never get a proper discourse into your hands. Those who want to know more about this should write us. Because that is not the subject of this particular email.

THE HINDI VERSION

Here below is the original Hindi version where Baba has given the teaching in a very clear and lucid manner. You will quickly understand how the original Hindi version is far above the standard of the  English version.

[Plants, Animals and Human Beings 15 October 1979, Nagpur]

Political Expulsion in AM

Baba

POLITICAL EXPULSION IN ANANDA MARGA

(Note: This is the second letter in this series. The title of the first letter was "Story: Baba's Vamadeva Form & Mock Expulsion", and an excerpt and a link to that letter has been appended below. - Eds)

Namaskar,
In the days of old, the existing dogma was that Samskrta should not be translated into other languages. In the face of that edict, Máládhra Vasu and Krttivása Ojah bravely came forward and translated various Samskrta scritures into Bengali so the common mass could get the benefit of those teachings. Those at the helm - i.e. the status quo - became furious and in their contempt they humiliated and expelled both Máládhra Vasu and Krttivása Ojah.

The same thing is going on nowadays in Ananda Marga. Those at the helm have implemented various dogmas in support of their own selfish agenda and if anyone tries to oppose those dogmas, then they become infuriated and expel them.

Baba's below teaching highlights how those who opposed dogma in the past, like Máládhra Vasu and Krttivása Ojah, were expelled for reasons of political expediency. Since 1990 we have seen this same scene unfolding in our AMPS - and still today certain group leaders are lobbying to continue this unholy tradition of expulsion. This is their chosen weapon of political expediency.

"It was considered nothing short of blasphemy to translate the religious scriptures from Samskrta into Bengali. The Nabab Hussein Shah personally tried to develop the Bengali language. With his active support Krttivása Ojah translated the Ramayana, Káshii Ram Dash translated the Mahabharata and Máladhra Vasu translated the Bhágavata from Samskrta to Bengali. This caused a furore among the community of scholars. They tried to brand Hussein Shah as a saboteur of the Hindu religion because, according to them, to translate the holy scriptures into Bengali was to defile the Hindu religion. Máládhra Vasu had to bear the stigma of being a Moslem convert and was widely ridiculed as Guńaranjina Khan. So incensed were the Samskrta scholars over the translations of Krttivása Ojah that he was declared an outcaste for committing an act of sacrilege. All this took place only 450 years ago." {Below are excerpts from this letter...}

Baba Himself is Love-Personified and He always encourages others to progress and rectify themselves. He never permanently banished or expelled anyone – nor did He push people away due to poor work output.

Again, Guru is Guru - He can do per His wish and always He is acting for the welfare of the individual.

In contrast, these present dadas want to use expulsion as a political weapon for their own selfish purposes. For this reason they are trying to dig out this "Baba did expulsion" campaign. This is how falsified tales and bogus myths get started. Do not give an ounce of credence to such things.

Remember religion is the incubation grounds for all kinds of tall tales, myths, dogmas and falsehoods, and our Ananda Marga is not immune to such things. Thus, using our viveka, we should be cent-per-cent careful and evaluate every circumstance and story with a clear and balanced mind.

Then everyone will come to the same clear conclusion that Baba never expelled anyone - not for any reason. Mock expulsions were done to bring people onto the right code of conduct and rectify their wrongs and teach others.

Baba's entire intention is to bring all unto the path of bliss.

Only a few opportunists want to justify their own use of expulsion as a weapon by laying claim that Baba also did expulsions. But that is just not true.

Baba's strict guideline is that there is no place for expulsion in Ananda Marga.

Re: Blind Wt Worker Teaches Wrong Things

Namaskar,
Please remember BABA never contradicts HIS own philosophy. Whatever Baba has written in Yoga Psychology is correct and has been in line with Caryacarya instructions.

In Yoga Psychology, Baba Says,” You can only bless those you like. If you accept salutations from those you dislike...”

In Caryacarya, for second type of salutations, Baba Says same thing- “...Never do “carańa sparsha prańáma” (bowing and touching the feet) to people whom you do not regard, whoever they may be.”

“Namaskar” is just a type of “Greeting”. We greet everyone with Namaskar - to all friends and enemies during “Dharma Cakra”, festivals, seminars, conferences, etc. But there are three methods of salutation: (1) sáśt́áuṋga prańáma [prostration], (2) carańa sparsha prańáma [bowing and touching the feet] and (3) namaskára [salutation].” BABA has clearly explained all three salutations- how to use and where to use.

Baba said in Caryacarya,” ......Namaskar can be done to all regardless of their age, because this mode of salutation is used with the ideation that everyone is the manifestation of the Supreme Being...”

But about “carańa sparsha prańáma” (bowing and touching the feet), Baba has clearly instructed for not accepting salutations from those you dislike.

BABA has said same thing in both books. There is no confusion. Therefore please do not get confused and please do not encourage and justify your Mumbai DS for committing blunders and preaching wrong things to gullible margis.

In Yoga Psychology, Baba has been narrating the “blessing” that how blessing has positive effect on all other Cakras by placing hand on the sahasrara cakra…..in the chapter “Glands and Sub-Glands”. Please read carefully.

In view of above, please do not try to confuse all. BABA never contradicts HIS own philosophy

Brotherly yours,
Mahadeva Shinde

Respected Dadaji,
Namaskar.

In this article and the linked article of it, "Namaskar " has been discussed in detail and there is no doubt that doing namaskar along with the mudra is beneficial to all. In AM by namaskar we do not salute to any individual but the consciousness in him/her which is the reflection of cosmic consciousness. In this way our system of salutation is unique and as per rev. Baba's direction, we should be first to do namaskar to the person we meet (without waiting his reply), than to be the replier of namaskar.

But, I would like you to see [page 126 para 3]  "Yoga Psychology" which deals with the discourse on 'glands and sub-glands' given by rev. Baba on 12th may 1990.

This para reads as below:-

"you can only bless those you like.If you accept salutations from those you dislike, negative sentiments may arise in your mind, increasing the lower propensities and decreasing the higher propensities in those seeking your blessing. So you do not have the right to accept salutations from all people, and you should not automatically bless every one."

This para gives directions as Ac Yogeshvarananda Avt (Mumbai DS) seems to be following. Please bring this to the notice of the writer of this article and inform me about the out come.

Respectfully,
TR Sukul

MUMBAI NEWS:

BLIND WT WORKER TEACHES WRONG THINGS

Namaskar,
We expect that WTs will teach us. Now the time has come where we are bound to teach Ac Yogeshvarananda Avt what is the Namaskar (salutation) system in Caryacarya. In fact he (Mumbai DS) is confused about “Namaskar” (Salutation) system.

Normally he does not do namaskar if he does not like certain margis or WTs. And he proudly declares in “Dharma Cakra” that Baba has instructed in Caryacarya - one should not do Namaskar if he or she dislikes him or her.

Ac Yogeshvarananda Avt is completely wrong. Baba has never instructed such thing in Caryacarya. In this way, DS dada has been disregarding Baba which is against “Ista and Adarsha” of 16 points. In addition, he has been misguiding gullible margi brothers and sisters by teaching wrong things.

In Caryacarya, Baba has written something similar about “carańa sparsha prańáma [bowing and touching the feet]”, but not about “Namaskar (salutation). Baba Says, "...Never do “carańa sparsha prańáma (bowing and touching the feet) to people whom you do not regard, whoever they may be.

About Namaskar, Baba has written, "...As ideal human beings you should not wait to [do] namaskar after another has greeted you: you should rather take the first opportunity to greet others. When someone greets you, it is merely common courtesy for you to salute back; you do not become an ideal human being thereby. Rather one who seizes the first opportunity to salute others is the ideal. So you should always make an effort to do namaskar to others first: you should not care whether the person whom you greet will greet you in return or not. (When people come to me during personal contact, I greet them first whether they salute me or not.) By giving honour to others you will not be belittled, you will rather enhance your prestige...” 29th Nov 1970, Calcutta (SS part- 10)

Non Compromising strictness to ISTA and ADARSHA - So please teach him.

Please find below what Baba has written about three types of Salutaion system in Caryacarya part one:

There are three methods of salutation: (1) sáśt́áuṋga prańáma [prostration], (2) carańa sparsha prańáma [bowing and touching the feet] and (3) namaskára [salutation].

Sáśt́áuṋga prańáma: Sáśt́áuṋga prańáma is a symbol of simplicity. It is to be done only to Márga Guru. It signifies surrender to the ideology. Women can do salutation by touching the ground with the forehead instead of full prostration.

Carańa sparsha prańáma: Carańa sparsha prańáma means to touch the feet of a revered person with one’s hands and then to touch one’s forehead with those same hands. This prańáma should be done only to those who command high regard from the worldly or spiritual viewpoint. As far as possible, do not do carańa sparsha prańáma except to persons such as these. Never do carańa sparsha prańáma to people whom you do not regard, whoever they may be.

Namaskára: Namaskára is done by bringing the palms together and touching the ájiṋá cakra [the mid-point of the eyebrows] with the thumbs, without bowing. It can be done to all regardless of their age, because this mode of salutation is used with the ideation that everyone is the manifestation of the Supreme Being.

Do not shake hands with anyone, because it is unhygienic, and do not do kurnish [a kind of court salute signifying submission to one’s authority] to anyone, as you are not anyone’s slave. Kurnish is a symbol of slavery, so as a form of salutation it is strictly forbidden. (1956, Jamalpur)

Baba also says, ”….Amániinaḿ mánadeyaḿ: You expect that people should respect and honour you, but you never think that you should also respect and honour others. Saḿgráme vaepariityaḿ: this principle has already been explained. You long for name and fame, and you are burning with impatience because you are not receiving the honour you expect. So you must use the reverse strategy: give respect to those whom no one gives respect, and your mind will become balanced and at peace. When beggars are stranded by the wayside, do you ever care to salute them? Why not? Are they not dignified human beings, are they not also expressions of the same One Supreme Consciousness? But when well-dressed, high-placed ministers and leaders stand before you, you lie prostrate before them – why this discrimination? All are manifestations of one and the same God: yet one person you greet warmly and another you utterly neglect – why this differential treatment? It means that there is a hidden sense of flattery in your mind and you are surreptitiously trying to gain honour from the elite. Rather you must give respect to those who do not receive respect from anyone; in this way your minds will become balanced and you will progress."  29th Nov 1970, Calcutta (SS part- 10)

Note: MORE PROBLEMS WITH THIS DADA

In fact, Yogeshvarananda dada is a rude and negative mentality dada. He is a big supporter of present GS Citsvarupananda. In Ranchi AMPS, many WT s are against this Mumbai DS due to his rude behavior. Many WT have complained against this dada to Rudrananda and Citsvarupananda. For example: Nirmohananda, Raviprakashananda, Nityasundarananda, Sandiptananda, etc. But no action has been taken against DS.

He is being guided by Citsvarupananda. In fact, DS has spoiled general relations of Mumbai margis. Due to his rude behavior, many old margiis and educated & intellectual margi do not attend DC in Jagriti. Many times, DS does not reply the Namaskar of margiis. That is why many margiis are not happy with DS.
