Dada’s deceptive ways

Note: This letter is only for those who have reverence for Sadguru Baba Shrii Shrii Anandamurti ji and try to follow His Ananda Marga ideology. Without bhakti one may not understand this critical topic.

Note 2: In any language, a word may have a plethora of meanings. In this context, when Dada Sarvatmananda used the word 'mission' then he clearly meant 'organisation', i.e. AMPS. Kindly keep this in mind when reading the below letter.

At present, there is one dogmatic, infamous quote that is wrongly propagated in the name of Baba. Here is that bogus quote:

I am not this physical body, this physical body is not me. If you want to know me,
work for my mission, because I have merged myself with my mission.

Now let’s examine this further and see how and why this fabricated quote came into existence. By this above fake quote, Sarvatmananda befooled margiis into thinking that Sadguru Baba merged into AMPS. And since AMPS was in Sarvatmananda’s pocket, so all wts and margiis must follow the command of Sarvatmananda. And that is exactly what margiis and Wts did those days.

Deception of Sarvatmananda

Bogus quote: "If you want to know me, work for my mission, because I have merged myself with my mission." So it was in that spirit, whereby mission means organisation, that Sarvatmananda created this fake quote. Dada’s intent was: Baba has merged in the mission (i.e. organisation) and to please Baba one has to follow every unjust order of Sarvatmananda. This was Sarvatmananda’s plan for keeping all power concentrated in his hands. Remember, back in late October 1990, AMPS was very different. It was a monolithic structure under the dictatorship of one person. It was not fractured; there was one person, i.e. Sarvatmananda, in the top seat. And this plan worked; nobody opposed Dada Sarvatmananda.

Here is proof of the unquestioned authority that Dada Sarvatmananda had: Just a few days later, Central Committee unanimously declared the mahaprayan divas observance as an annual pilgrimage to Tiljala - thereby making Kolkata the focal point. The mandate was for all to come to Tiljala to observe so-called mahaprayan. It was forbidden to observe mahaprayan anywhere else. It had to be done in Tiljala (Kolkata.) All because Sarvatmananda wanted to make Kolkata the spiritual hub of AMPS. And with this forged Baba quote Sarvatmananda achieved his end.

Everything was in Sarvatmananda's pocket

Just as those Hindu priests fabricated one tale that Mahaprabhu merged into the Jagannath idol in order to cover-up the murder and control all his disciples, similarly Sarvatmananda concocted that false merge in mission quote and attributed it to Baba to control margiis and wts. Sarvatmananda’s plan was that they should follow his every word because he (Dada Sarvatmananda) was the organisational head and Baba had merged Himself into the mission / organisation.

And we can see that Sarvatmananda got success. In the next few short years, he carried out so many dastardly deeds by his mere order. Indeed, Sarvatmananda did so many things because he had harnessed the obedience of workers and margiis by concocting this single quote: "If you want to know me, work for my mission, because I have merged myself with my mission." For this reason, so many listened to his every word and followed his command.

Conclusion

What then is the difference between Dada Sarvatmananda's approach and that of those dogmatic priests of old. Both fabricated outrageous tales in order to bring scores of followers under their control. By the bogus "merge in mission" quote, Sarvatmananda befooled margiis into thinking that Sadguru Baba merged into AMPS. And since AMPS was in Sarvatmananda's pocket, then all margiis and Wts must follow the unethical command of Sarvatmananda.

AMPS mission has boundaries — not infinite

Or we can think of it this way. If Parama Purusa Baba merged Himself in the mission then outside of the mission there is no Parama Purusa. His mission itself is something very specific and limited – it does not encompass the entire vastness of creation and the unexpressed universe. The scope of mission is contained within particular boundaries. So, if the infinite Parama Purusa merged Himself into that limited mission, then who is to Lord over the rest of creation that is not included within the limited confines of the mission. This unsubstantiated quote asserts that outside of the mission there is no Parama Purusa.

Yet we know that Parama Purusa is that infinite Entity Who is omnipresent. He is everywhere – He is not just relegated to being inside the boundary walls of the mission. It is a completely illogical and absurd notion to proclaim that Parama Purusa merged in the mission.

Bogus quote is against Guru’s teachings

This bogus quote is (a) not in concert with Sadguru's rational ideology, and (b) not found in any Ananda Marga publication. Nobody can give any proof that this is from an audio file of a non-printed discourse either. These are the key reasons why nobody should propagate this false quote. Following is the bogus quote wrongly attributed to Baba that was propagated by Sarvatmananda and other Dadas starting in Oct 1990:

I am not this physical body, this physical body is not me. If you want to know me,

This bogus quote is (a) not in concert with Sadguru's rational ideology, and (b) not found in any Ananda Marga publication. Nobody can give any proof that this is from an audio file of a non-printed discourse either. These are the key reasons why nobody should propagate this false quote.

#1: As we know, all of Baba’s teachings are logical and rational. If the above line is truly from Sadguru Baba then it should stand up to the test of reason and rationality.
#2: This above quote is not found in any Ananda Marga publication, and there is no proof that this is from an audio file of a non-printed discourse either.

For these above two reasons alone, nobody should propagate this false quote. One of our main duties as Ananda Margiis is to maintain and present Sadguru Baba’s teaching in an untainted manner to the world and future generations. That means Baba’s books and discourses should be clearly noted. Side by side, we should also ensure dogmatic words, phrases, and teachings are not propagated in the name of Baba.

How mission means organisation

Some naive people may justify that the terms "mission" and "organisation" are two different things; but, practically speaking, they are not. In Bengal, mission means organisation such as the Ramakrishna Mission. And not just Bengal, the world over people talk about the Christian Missions. In these cases, they are referring to the people and projects that make up the Ramakrishna mission and the Christian mission etc. In common parlance, mission means organisation. And indeed if you read the propagandised quote it carries the same meaning: mission is an organisation where people gather and work.

Regardless, mission is not bigger than Parama Purusa Himself so then how is Parama Purusa going to merge Himself into that.

Sarvatmananda, Rudrananda, Nigamananda, Parmeshvarananda, Vandanananda

In AMPS, Dada Sarvatmananda invented this quote in October 1990 because at that time Dada Sarvatmananda was the AMPS organisation/ mission. He ruled over everything and he thought that by this quote everyone will be convinced fully to blindly follow and execute his order. This fake quote suited Sarvatmananda’s needs well. All Dadas supported him. Here are a few examples of the many Wts who supported him: Bhaveshananda, Tadbhavananda, Vratishvarananda, Vijayananda, Mantreshvarananda, Rudrananda, Nigamananda, Parmeshvarananda, Vandanananda etc.

Note 1: Story: Chaitanya Mahaprabhu merged in idol?

Here is one incident from history that parallels the situation in Ananda Marga. 500 years ago, the dogmatic followers of Shankaracarya (priests of the famous Puri temple) were 100% against Chaitanya Mahaprabhu because Chaitanya was not adhering to their caste and untouchability sentiment. Plus Chaitanya had many disciples who were Muslim. This also was a point of contention for those Hindu priests of the Puri temple. So they were furious with Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and vowed to make amends.

Here is what they did. Those dogmatic followers of Shankaracarya invited the great Mahaprabhu to the Puri temple, and in a dark moment they murdered him in cold blood. To hide their sinful deed, and placate and appease the disciples of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, those Hindu priests told those disciples that the great Mahaprabhu's physical body actually entered into wooden idol of Lord Jagannath. Those conniving priests claimed the body disappeared completely inside the wooden idol and did not return. And indeed the body was never found.

Hearing this, most of the disciples felt gloried, awed, and proud that their guru Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had become one with Lord Jagannath. Or, in a phrase, you can say that they were wholly duped by the chicanery of those sinful Hindu priests.

Here we have to remember that it is not uncommon for the masses of India to believe such mythical tales. This is the land where they firmly believe that the mythological monkey god Hanuman jumped and flew like birds 30 miles across the sea to Sri Lanka, and that the mythological monkey god Hanuman ate the sun thinking it to be a piece of fruit etc. There is no shortage of outrageous stories that are embraced as truth by religious followers.

How Dada Sarvatmananda fulfilled his objectives

So when those simple disciples heard that their revered Chaitanya merged into the idol of Jagannath, they believed it wholeheartedly and were amazed. They did not harbour any suspicion. Rather they fully accepted the fictitious tale created by dogmatic Hindu priests.

By this way the Puri temple priests effectively gained control over Chaitanya's disciples. This was the tactical victory made by those sinful Puri priests.

Ananda Marga ideology states, "When a man, a devotee, a spiritual aspirant moves towards the Supreme Self, his body, that is his brain and intellect increases. And when he moves further, close to the Supreme Being, his spirit, that is his a’tman is also developed. His a’tman becomes more reflecting and more soothing to other existential vibrations because it comes closer to the emanating point of the Supreme Spirit." (1)

नोट :- कोई जो दूर है तो उसका ध्यान आकर्षित करने के लिए ‘हे’ बोलकर उसे पुकारते हैं, जैसे “हे, रामू”। लेकिन अगर कोई मेरे सामने है और मेरी तरफ़ देख रहा है उसे ‘हे’ बोलकर सम्बोधित नहीं किया जाता है। परमात्मा सदा साथ हैं और हमको लगातार देख रहे हैं इसलिए उनसे बात करते समय “हे, परमात्मा! हे, बाबा,” बोलकर भक्त कभी सम्बोधित नहीं करता।

परमपुरुष, तुम्हारी याद में कितनी रातें बीत गईं, कितने दिन चले गए, कितने ही वर्ष बीत गए।  इतने समय में आकाश से कितने तारे उल्का पिण्ड झर गए।  तुम्हारी याद में लंबा समय कष्ट में बीता। तुम्हारी आशा में खुशी गीत में बहु काल कट गया---सब व्यर्थ हो गया।  इस सब के बावजूद इतने लम्बे इन्तज़ार के बाद  भी तुम नहीं आए। 

बाबा, मैं अपने मन को समझाता हूँ कि तुम जो कुछ भी करते हो मेरी भलाई के लिए करते हो।  इसी ढाढस  के साथ तुम्हारी आशा में अभी इतनी देर रात में जगा हुआ हूँ। प्रभु तुम सदा त्रुटिओं को क्षमा करते हो, मेरी त्रुटिओं को क्षमा करो, और कृपा करो जिससे यह कष्ट दूर हो जाय। 

परमपुरुष बाबा, मैं तुम्हें प्यार करता हूँ, अन्धकार को दूर करनेवाले,  तुम सदा सजाग हो, तथा मेरी मन मंदिर मनोभूमि में विराजमान होओ। अब तो मेरे हृदय कमल पर आओ।

This is a brief English summary of the below Hindi teaching:

You should depend on the force of spirituality. That is what an intelligent person should do. And since the beginning that is what we have done. The “nucleus” [of Ananda Marga] is a small town and that nucleus remains the same, but the circumference is no longer limited to Jamalpur; it has spread not only across the entire globe but throughout various planets. And it is spreading more and more. Now remember that this Ananda Marga was made not by one or two but by thousands of righteous persons. From this DMC I [Baba] am bestowing Ananda Marga to the common people.

Nothing could be more foolish than this statement​

Ananda Marga philosophy teaches us "You will hear many a vain and assuming person say, “I don’t need anyone’s help, I’m doing very well by myself. I don’t want to concern myself with anyone else’s affairs and I don’t expect anyone else to bother about mine.” Nothing could be more foolish than this statement. Medicine and nursing are necessary to cure diseases; the neighbours’ help is needed to cremate a dead body; and for the regular supply of food and cloth the cooperation of farmers and spinners is essential. Remember, no created being in this universe is independent. No one can exist alone, everyone has a supra-cosmic relationship with the whole, at times prominent, at times indistinguishable. In this scheme of mutual relationships, even the slightest mistake or discord will raise a furious furor in the universe. In this mighty creation, the brilliantly luminous sun and the tiny ant have the same existential value, having combined together to make the universal family. Similarly, in human society, the importance of a powerful and eminent person is no less than that of a disabled and dying patient. None can be ignored. The least injustice done to anyone will cause the breakdown of the entire social framework." (1)

Sad story

Ananda Marga philosophy states, “In India some rhinos still exist; they are found in the Duars region of North Bengal and upper Assam, the temperate plains of Bhutan and central Nepal. Everywhere they are counting the days until their final extinction. Human beings of ancient times believed that the medicine made from the rhino's horn could rejuvenate them. So the cruel practice of poaching rhinos prevailed in every age and continues to prevail even today. The situation has come to such a pass that the few one-horned or two-horned rhinos that still remain may disappear any time from the face of the earth. Although there is a slight increase in their population in the Kaziranga Sanctuary of Assam, one rarely comes across them in ordinary forests. The medicinal properties of the rhino horn are neither a verified truth nor has it any scientific basis. Is it not extremely abominable to exterminate an innocent creature due to some wrong notion?” (1)
