Our avadhutas are supposed to be the seers of society who lead by example. Yet here in the midst of this world-wide pandemic when all rational people understand that to prevent the spread of covid one must wear a face mask, Dada Santos’a’nanda ji fails to wear a mask at this public meeting. Actually, all the attendees were alert and arrived wearing face masks, but when they saw that Dada ji was not wearing a mask a few of them got swayed by Dada’s poor example and took their masks off also - and put it in their pocket. To make matters even worse, this photo is highlighted in the recent issue of the Prout magazine.
This is an extremely bad look. This is a life and death situation; people getting sick and dying at staggering rates. And for Dada Santos’a’nanda ji not to wear a mask in a public display paints our avadhutas as being covid naysayers like Trump and Bolsonaro. When the truth is that our avadhutas are to be the pioneers of society who exemplify the progressive and blemishless teachings of AM ideology. But which member of the public is going to get this impression when they see Dada ji at this meeting (a) without a mask and (b) not social distancing in the height of this global pandemic.

See the below photo. The dada in avadhuta uniform with the white beard is Ac Santos'a'nanda. A red circle has been placed around him with an arrow and a heading "Dada not wearing mask". Because of Dada ji's poor example, a few other people in the room took off their masks also - and placed them in their pocket. This is a shocking case of very poor leadership. This type of example is the root cause behind the spread of this deadly global pandemic.

Ananda Marga ideology states, “Those who have the responsibility to show the path to others should be of superlative character with the most refined conduct. They and their followers must move constantly towards all-round development and shreya [ultimate spiritual attainment]. Persons who teach such well-regulated behaviour to others by their own conduct are called ácáryas.” (Ananda Vacanamrtam - 31, The Conduct of an Ácárya)
