Baba’s guideline about purport + 2 more

Baba’s guideline about purport

Namaskar,

This letter is very important for readers and writers of Prabhat Samgiita purports. Baba has given a key guideline about how these purports should be written - and not written. Due to a lack of knowledge of Baba’s below teaching, almost all our magazines are ruining the PS purports - out of their ignorance. Yet Prabhat Samgiita is an invaluable asset for the entire human society. The original Prabhat Samgiita compositions were written in Bangla which most people cannot understand so the purport is very much needed. But if the purport is presented as the below flawed example in Prajina Bharatii then it is counter-productive as it defeats the purpose.

Please review Baba’s below teaching. After understanding it fully, if you come across any magazine where they are ruining Prabhat Samgiita purports by not following Baba’s below guideline, then your duty is to awaken and alert them about their faulty ways. Please carefully read the following and the matter will be very clear.

At various gatherings like general darshan and DMC etc, Prabhat Samgiita was sung while Sadguru Baba was seated on the dais. During that program, various Dadas or senior margiis would come onto the stage and present a purport of the song in Hindi, Bengali, and English. If Baba found that their purports were problematic or unclear etc, He would interject then and there or comment after the purport was completed. And that is the scene unfolding here.

“Too much Samskrta won't help Hindi to its progress”

On 26 Feb 1984 at general darshan, one person was giving the Hindi purport of Prabhat Samgiita #0059, when Baba delivered the following teaching guiding us that the Hindi purport should contain simple Hindi terms, not complex terms that are incomprehensible to the common people.

Baba’s below discourse guides us about a very fundamental point. Namely, the purport of any Prabhat Samgiita should be expressed in clear, simple language that the local people can easily understand. The Prabhat Samgiita purport is for all. It is not just for a few learned intellectuals or linguistic scholars. So the word choice should feature common terms - not complex, abstruse terms. That is the central idea of Baba’s below teaching.

Baba says, [For example] "They are the “two belligerent parties.” बोलने से, [by saying this], even English people, they wouldn't understand it properly. What's the meaning of belligerent? And if you say "the two fighting parties", everybody will understand. "It is my nocturnal duty" - how many people will understand it? "It is my night duty" - everybody will understand it. Too much use of Latin vocabulary won't enhance the progress of English. Similarly, too much Samskrta won't help Hindi to its progress.” (1) [GD, Delhi, 26 Feb 1984]

Baba’s discourse on Prabhat Samgiita purport

Baba says, “समझे न जी ?”

Baba says, “तो सरल-सहज होना चाहिए, आम ज़ुबान, जनता की भाषा होनी चाहिए | [प्रभात सङ्गीत के भावार्थ को] और सीधा कर दो जी |”

Baba says, [For example] "नवनीत की पुतली" बोलने से बहुत कम आदमी समझेंगे | "मक्खन की गुड़िया" बोलने से लोग समझ लेंगे | (2) [GD, Delhi, 26 Feb 1984]

Baba guides: Way to write purport

Here following is the English summary of the aforesaid Hindi teaching about how Prabhat Samgiita purport should be written:

The Hindi language has its own vocabulary. And that should be utilised for purports. Then the work will be better. In the purport, the term “saorabh” has been used; but, how many people will understand. It should have been translated as khushbu’. The next example is “surabhit pushp” -  but again who will understand this. Whereas, if you say “khushabu’ d’ar phu’l” then everyone will easily understand. If you say “kritrim”, then how many people will understand. But if you say ban’avat’ii then everyone will understand.

Do you understand?

So the purport should be easily understood. It should be in the vernacular - the people’s language - so everyone can understand.

For example, if you say “navaniit kii putlii”, then how many people will understand. But if you say “makkhan kii gur'iya’” then people will easily understand.

The above English summary of Baba’s Hindi discourse teaches the very basic principle that the purport should be in the language of the common folk which even ordinary people can understand. Prabhat Samgiita purports are for all - not just for a few learned intellectuals. So the purport should be given in simple language. That is the central idea of Baba’s aforesaid teaching.

Blunder in AM magazine: Prajina Bharatii

Please see here the below image from page 32 of Prajiná Bháratii. The editors of Prajiná Bháratii editors have done the exact opposite of Baba’s teaching:

Please see here the above image from page 32 of Prajiná Bháratii. The editors of Prajiná Bháratii editors have done the exact opposite of Baba’s teaching:

Blunder #1 underlined in red: They used terms which the vast majority of Hindi speakers will not understand. Certain terms were chosen that even intellectuals cannot understand. Verily the translator himself did not understand and that is why they used the original Sanskrit term from the song and did not even attempt to translate it into Hindi. This is one type of blunder underlined in red.

Blunder #2 underlined in purple: Those words are unwanted or negative words. This is most shameful. The first purple term means pomegranate and it should have been pain. And in the second purple underlined they selected the exact opposite meaning of what should have been used.

Conclusion

Sadguru Baba has given explicit guidelines for writing purports of Prabhat Samgiita. Those guidelines need to be applied properly. Sadly, those in-charges of Prajiná Bháratii could not adhere to Guru’s teachings. Going forward such types of errors should not be repeated, especially in our published magazines like Prajiná Bháratii.

There is no trace of humanity left anymore

“Nava bháve prabhu tumi eso, kánde dharitrii támasii rátri…” (Prabhat Samgiita #4392)

Purport:

O’ Parama Purusa, Taraka Brahma, please come onto this earth in a very fresh and new way once again. The whole world is crying in pain. The cimmerian darkness of the deep, pitch-black night has permeated every pore of this world. There is not a trace of refulgence anywhere. Kindly take form and save us.

Waiting for You ages and ages have passed; so many stars have fallen. There is a lot of suffering: people are facing an unimaginable amount of agony. Day and night, people are passing the time thinking about You - Your impending arrival. And in the meantime animality is growing. There is no trace of humanity left anymore. All around the dance of sin is going on. The situation is very bad. Once again please come as Mahasambhuti.

Days go by and with the passage of time animality is mounting. There is no sign of humanity anywhere. The rule of sin is dominant in all regions. The earth has become absolutely intolerable. Please take advent as Mahasambhuti once again. Now immense crookedness, deceitfulness, hypocrisy, and dastardly dealings are everywhere. There is not an iota of sadhuness that remains anymore. The demons are dancing in every corner and trampling the path of dharma. O’ Parama Purusa, come over here to rescue humanity, establish dharma, and spread bhakti....

Various grades of sadhakas & spiritual ideation

Ananda Marga ideology guides us, "In the fourth phase the relationship is just like a piece of paper; the unit consciousness of the spiritual aspirant is one side of the paper and the Cosmic Consciousness of Parama Purus'a is the other side of the paper; they are inseparable, one cannot be removed from the other. By His effulgence the unit existence, the existential faculty of the aspirant gets lighted, gets illumined. With His illumination the aspirant is to move forward and enjoy the Supreme Beatitude and the Supreme Composure." (1)

Note: Here above Baba is indirectly guiding about the last part of the practice of dhyana - which every sincere sadhaka practices regularly.

In meditation, the lowermost bhaktas think that God is in some other world. A practical example of this is that in 1990 those types of lowest bhaktas created the so-called shraddha purport whereby they recited something similar to this: “O’ Parama Purusa, in the past You were with us and now You have left us - You are very far away in divya-dham (divine world) - beyond our reach. From there You please bless us.” This is the central idea what our so-called great, great purodhas did in October 1990. This is the sign of lowest grade bhaktas. Because in their mind, Parama Purusa is very far away - somewhere in a very far away different world.

The third grade bhaktas think that God is here in this world (loka) - “He is within my reach but He is a little far.” This is better than worst grade but not very elevated. The next stage of bhakta feels that, “Parama Purusa is my very near and He is my relation - father, or even my close intimate friend.” And the highest grade bhakta is what is described above in Baba’s teachings. So this is a brief description of the various grades of bhaktas.

One should remember that sadhana is the effort to go close to Parama Purusa, and slowly the degree of closeness reflects the types of relation one has with Parama Purusa. So if a person thinking that Parama Purusa is very far away in another world then they are lowest of the low because the distance is far and they have to travel a lot.

If you think that He is your close, intimate friend then You are very close to Parama Purusa. But the most close to Parama Purusa is what is described in the above teaching. In last stage unit mind merges into Cosmic Consciousness, and jiiva becomes Shiva.
